This was an absolutely amazing presentation. Thank you so much Prof. Yaacob. I finally see a more meaningful direction my architecture studies can go and am going to but the books you've recommended!

As an engineering graduate that is interested in design and concepts in architecture design, I find that it's actually quite hard to find resources of this quality available for free online. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough, but nevertheless, I am very grateful that you uploaded this to share your knowledge and insight. Thank you very much!

Many thanks for your lectures! Would it be correct to say that the theory of place by Schulz and Critical Regionalism are architectural theories? I am just not sure about the terminology.

Thank you. In architecture, when enough critics and scholars point out a concept such as genius loci, phenomenology, and critical regionalism, then it becomes a 'theory'. "Theory of Place" (I haven't heard that one before) - more on the "Sense of Place" or Genius Loci. Do share with me if you have any thoughts on this.

Thank you, Ms. Yaacob! Why do so many "Roman style 1800's buildings have repeating copy-paste elements like ornaments on them like sea shells, cones (some say pine cones symbolize pineal gland), also these male "angels" and these same noses that are straight from the forehead(unusual and nobody really looks like this). Do you know? It has always baffled me. Thank you for this lecture. Also I am curious why the Etruscan architecture seems to be imitated across the world. Also why do star forts exist in the whole world of the same type? Is there a science that studies specifically architectural ornaments symbolism?

When it comes to the History of Architecture, in particular influences from Antiquity, depend on the era. The 1800s were already the Neo-Classical period and some were more stripped down compared to the Mannerists from 2 centuries back. The Mannerists were more playful with the ornaments. Any motifs not from Greek and Roman could be used. In fact, where I am from the local motifs were used in commercial buildings. I read from the usual books and am not a historian. My mentor was Professor James Stevens Curl, the architectural historian, who writes about some of the things you asked about.

There is a whole other dimension of what architecture is really about. It might be called the Lost Lore of Architecture. There is a secret code that a few know how to apply in their buildings to give it a magical quality.
Please look at the videos I have made showing how Foster and Aalto have a hidden underlying Sacred Geometry which causes the building to resonate with the natural harmonics of our world.
