There's a stupid cop, clever cop dynamic to them. It works well and was only made better by guest appearances from legends like Bob mortimer or Sean lock 💯🤣 it wasn't a big surprise to see Lee fill Sean's shoes on cats does countdown, they're some big shoes to fill 😢💯
David coming up with “Tinky Winky’s got an urgent purple member” is one of my favorite lines! And anytime Lee has to come up with a system for a ridiculous lie is amazing, of course the most ridiculous one was actually true!😂
"Then you round it up, or round it down, which is forty-four, key to the door, twenty-one, two and one is three, Sunday's the first day, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday." Completely nonsensical, and yet somehow brilliant.
Lee is one of the most intelligent comedians on this show. I think David knows that, and that's why he considers him an adequate colleague. But I really like how Lee always looks at the camera when he gets such a ridiculous and obvious lie. Kudos to the producers. Picking Lee and David as captains is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement.
He's a comedic genius and the show just wouldn't be the same without him. He compliments David's angry logic comedy very well and Rob in the middle holding court is just perfect. I love this show!
The unholy trinity of British comedy. What an achievement of English television. May they continue for many years with good health, ludicrous tales, and Bob Mortimer making David Mitchell’s brain melt with surrealism!

In June I ended up in hospital where I was kept in a coma for several weeks. When I woke up I was still in an alternate universe not quite "with it", when this male nurse came up to me and said "Hi Frank, you're at the ... hospital and my name is Ron". "Sure you are" I said and smiled knowingly, absolutely convinced it was Lee Mack standing next to my bed holding my hand. I somehow reasoned that I was part of a prank reality tv-show, where I was the one getting pranked - and was in awe that they had been able to get *the* Lee Mack and an entire hospital staff to be part of the show. "What the hell are you doing here?", I asked. "And how the *FFFFFUCK!!!* did you learn perfect Norwegian this fast? I asked him impressed. But Lee just looked at me as if he didn't know what I was talking about 🙄 I can't remember much of the next weeks, but Ron was Lee Mack to me, and I *only* spoke English with him, or whenever he was in the room. Because they had to be reminded that I had seen through their prank! 😏 At one point I almost tore off Lee's nutbag though, but that's a different story.
@@williammcnamara9049 With drugs like that I'm almost looking forward to my palliative care 😉 I had a blast though, until I mistook the MRI machine for a cremation furnace. After a long and no doubt painful tug of nurse Mack's groin area, in an attempt to persuade him from burning me alive, they finally had to put me in straps. He sat down very gently the next few days, but we soon became BFFs again. Still, what impressed me the most was his remarkable Norwegian, with a perfect dialect from the west coast. 👍
David laughing at Lee's ridiculous stories is everything 😂 Also, it'd be quite interesting/funny to see a compilation of Lee's true stories just to see what a weirdo he is. 😁
If I didn't know better, I'd assume this show was built around Lee Mack's ability to bullshit quickly. Then the producers created David Mitchell as his perfect counterpart.
Lee is right in that the Ouija Board was a board game of sorts, though it was sold by Parker Brothers, not Waddingtons, or MB. It’s original use was to demonstrate the Ideomotor Effect.
7:18 Not that this claim of Lee's needed a tricky cross-examination, but just for the record: 1954 was not a leap year. Leap years are divisible by 4. For instance, 1952 and 1956 were leap years.
@@jeremybuckets Not sure what you mean. I didn't say that every year that is divisible by 4 is automatically a leap year. I said leap years are all divisible by 4.
I'd really love to meet David Mitchell today, however many years later, and ask him what color is La La, Po, or Dipsy. I'd leave out Tinky WInky because that one is too easy to remember.
It's weird to me that none of them knew that ouija boards are just a board game made by parker bros. They joke about it being like jenga or scrabble which is exactly the case.
When Lee says that they used to be a fairly popular family game before horror movies convinced most people that Ouija boards were evil, he's totally correct.
I'm sure everyone knows that, but they meant that it's considered an occult type object by many people, which makes it not "kid friendly" in some people's eyes regardless who it's made by.
A problem with this show having permanent hosts is that they've essentially told every unbelievable story from their lives at this point. However Lee is so quick that he makes it work regardless, even with these ridiculous some of the premises they give him are.
The “tugging on your ear makes one side longer so I can tell if you’re left or right handed” thing is so funny to be because I’ve literally never tugged on my ear before. Maybe it’s a more common thing with men with short hair because I tend to fidget with my hair instead. My hair and nails are what I fidget with, never fidgeted either my ears before.
The ouija board genuinely was marketed as a game for kids originally. It was a fortune teller like when you make those origami ones then ask a question. It wasn’t until later it became affiliated with spirits. Hasbro still makes one you can buy at children’s toy stores.
Thanks for compiling and uploading! Minor thing: the description of the first one should be ‘I can tell if someone is left-or right-handed just by looking at their ears’
a couple of the seek-bar descriptions are off, because there's apparently 2 sections where lee can tell the circumference of someone's head.. edit: also the right/left handed section at 26:58 is actually tea/coffee drinkers...
I just looked up may 14 1955. It wasn't tuesday, it was saturday. Lee must have misremembered it? 1954 wasn't a leap year either, the leap years around that time were 52 and 56
This is how you actually calculate it, doomsday method You learn that May 9th 1900 was a Wednesday. You learn that every year, that day increases by one, or two if it a leap year. So 55 years after 1900 (which is 13 leap years) = 55+13 = 68 days increased, but every 7 days we are back to the same day. So 68%7 = 5, so wednesday plus 5 days is Monday. 9th of may 1955 was a monday, so 14 of mai is just 5 days more which is saturday
Give these all to Bob Mortimer and they'll be true
And all other participants involved in the stories will have odd and amusing names.
