  • For their #BeARoc campaign @RoCSkincare asked me for the advice I’d give my younger self. It was fun, and, at times, uncomfortable going through all my old photos and really thinking about what I struggled with when I was young.
In my 20s, I remember feeling insecure and uncertain about myself a lot of the time. I chose one of the worst industries in that regard to make my start in as an actor and presenter. I was constantly pitted against other girls. If I didn’t get the job I’d be wondering why I wasn’t chosen. I remember convincing myself that it was because I wasn’t skinny enough or tall enough.
At the same time I was acting, I started working in magazines. The mag industry was a slightly nicer place to be, but it was still highly competitive and I felt constant pressure as a beauty editor attending all the events to look the part. I remember being so nervous before editorial meetings that I would go to the bathroom to check my makeup was perfect.
I wish I had just enjoyed being young and carefree and kidless. I wish I hadn’t worried about what people thought of me, or what I looked like. And my skin was so perfect. Why did I cover it up with makeup?
When we’re in our 20s and even 30s a lot of us second guess ourselves. We spend so much time trying to find our place in the world that we forget to enjoy the freedom!
Most of the time these days I get around in no makeup so I like my skincare to be easy but effective. I’ve loved testing the RoC Multi Correxion Revive + Glow Daily Serum and Night Serum Capsules. Single serve capsules means the Vitamin C is stabilised and doesn’t degrade.
I can’t worry about my skin or makeup because these days I’m busy worrying about my kids, my mortgage and building a business and brand. But sometimes we have to stop and wonder what would we think about all that in our 70s? Our 70 year old self might wish we had enjoyed life more and savoured the special moments with friends and family. George Bernard Shaw said that, “youth is wasted on the young,” would you agree? What would you tell your younger self?
