I have always loved the purity of these old karate practitioners and their styles. It's something I can appreciate.

In the 1970s I had the opportunity to see Yamaguchi Sensei's embu at the Budokan. The Goku Ryu embu started with fundamental rendition of a kata. This was followed by a more advanced version of the same kata with smoother movements. Then Yamaguchi Sensei stepped up to do the same kata. It was Hara, Kokyu, and deep presence. I was seated 4 o'clock to his position on the second deck, , and I felt the expansion of his presence. This is not an exaggeration- the Budokan went silent. I recall not breathing and being awestruck. During the 10 years I lived in Tokyo I went to many demonstrations at the Budokan. Meiji Shrine and elsewhere, but this one, this embu stands out as a demonstration of true Budo.

For me, the cat looks like a weak and slow beginner who would lose instantly to any other fighter. 14:16 his students don't hurt him just because of respect of his old age.

1969. Nishi Ogikubo dojo. “O -jousann” we called her as she led a few classes of our 4-6 pm “kids” division, 6 days a week.
What I remember most was the grueling bunny hopping to and from the Shinto Shrine to start most sessions.
No, she didn’t bunny hop with us. Her Katas were impressive and as an English-speaking student, I was called upon to interpret for Master Yamaguchi while O-jou-san served tea.
      Thanks for the memories.
The master himself entered the dojo only twice to lead the class and demonstrate katas during my two years there.

Sounds like you're been drinking Karate Lite. Less sweat, less pain, less focus. Everything you didn't want in Karate and less. You haven't trained much, have you?
