Food for the Hungry Heart - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

  • Friends, we come now to the marvelous Feast of Corpus Christi, of the Body and Blood of Christ. What has been on my mind a lot recently is the famous story of the feeding of the five thousand-the only miracle, with the exception of the Resurrection, recounted in all four Gospels. Jesus multiplying the loaves and fishes to the feeding of this great crowd must have made a massive impression on the first Christians. With this feast in mind, let’s look at the earliest version of this story in the Gospel of Mark, because every part of it is worthy of meditation.

Be it known: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit!
Hear me when I say, ye that are Catholic have been deceived and know not God. Ye worship Mary, praying to her; when God tells his to worship none other than him. It is idolatry.
Catholicism has its own Bible and teachings, which are blasphemous to the word of God: the Holy Bible. As ye follow the teachings of man and not God; ye hear the pope, but not Jesus, yet ye claim to be his disciples!
These are but a few things I named ye dwell within; there are many more. I tell you now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father!
There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you!
They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God...
Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask:
"Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen."
      Revelation 22:8-9 KJV
8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
      Acts 2:38 KJV
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
      Luke 11:13 KJV
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
      John 14:21-24 KJV
21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.*
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.*
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and *the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.*
      3 John 1:11 KJV
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. *He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.*
      1 John 3:6-10 KJV
6 *Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.*
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: *he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.*
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 *Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.*
10 *In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,* neither he that loveth not his brother.

I am a Protestant Christian. But dude. Please stop. Catholics are Christians. Some of them may have not practiced their faith very well that they appear to worship saint X, Y, and Z. But that is not Catholicism. Catholics can be ignorant of Catholicism, just as Protestants are most of the time ignorant of Protestantism as well. Most of the Catholics who are here know their faith well. Trust me, your case will not work bro. It is child's play to the informed Catholics.

I was blessed to be one of the 5,000 participating from our Diocese and beyond yesterday at Mankato and to hear, see Bishop Barron open the Congress, lead mass following tremendous speakers and music. What a day! What an experience to participate in the event all day ! I do not believe for one second it was merely coincidental that we 5000 gathered there yesterday but it was Providential. The lesson to give what little bit you have to the Lord who can multiply elevate it beyond our dreams reverberates within me still As always I heard/learned something nrew to me although I have heard this gospel story all my life when Bishop Barron shared the number 12 baskets left over after all ate, a ;ightbu;b went off in my mind. As he explained the Biblical significance of the 12 and trying it all through time to the 12 tribes of Israel, I could just shake my head again! How had I never realized that 12, right there. God Bless Bishop Barron.

So wonderful , so generous. Dear Bishop Robert Barron, listening to your commentaries is a rare opportunity to grow spiritually. Today, the biblical roots of the Mass is beautifully explained to us. Every little detail becomes part of the Revelation of God. And one can think how come the Bible is so well crafted. The harmony of the Old Testament fully “pregnant” of the New Testament. How come it be? Thank you Bishop Robert Barron. Thank you very much. May the Almighty God be always with you. Dear bishop, the few minutes, the few words, the few gestures of your hands conducting the cadence of your speech , given to God, transform souls beyond the here and now of their recording in a studio. The tension between the transcendent « I am » and the compassionate « Here He is with us » is so apparent in your homily. God’s proximity to us, who knows the food we hunger for and makes it available at the time and place we live in, is made real bodily by He who transcends time and space.

Happy Corpus Christi celebration, and blessings on Minnesota, and the whole Midwest.

    The story of our lives!
'who guided you through this vast and dreadful wilderness, a land of fiery serpents, scorpions, thirst; who in this waterless place brought you water from the hardest rock; who in this wilderness fed you with manna that your fathers had not known.’
    Happy Corpus Christi

Another fantasatic homily.... thank you. However, I have trouble relating this to today's world situation. Mankind is being attacked by principalities and powers, and yet the Church, with its role as leader of all Christendom, is absent, aside from a few Bishops and Cardinals. We have been sent to the 'desert of despair' without leadership from Rome. The people are hungry ..... we pray without direction. The Body and blood of Christ feeds us .... yes ... but we are lost in the desert. God help us!

I pray let us all with every bite and a sip if any sustenance gifted to us in this life, give thanks, and praise, like in the mass. Do so in memory of our LORD Jesus's command to do so and his sacrifice for our salvation will feed us continuallythroughout eternity. We're are all called to do this daily, with every bite and drink of physical sustenance, remember. That we might partake of the spiritual nourishment. Praise God, bless you all, with much fruit of the Holy Spirit of Truth, much love, Amen.

Upon hearing your message, Bishop, I immediately thought of the two on the way to Emmaus. Upon Christ revealing Himself in the breaking of the bread, the disciple's immediate response was, "Did not our hearts burn within us as He opened to us the Word!" Without Christ opening the Word to us, the Scriptures are mere words, even as the elements without the real presence of Christ in them are merely a little bread and wine.
From the first, I have sensed Christ opening up the Word of God through you, and want to thank you for your ministry.

The Mass is so precious to a priest as it forms the core of priestly spirituality. If a priest is not in love with the Lord at the altar, he is in real trouble because he will not lead others to the Saviour. Our Faith is totally about that relationship between Jesus and each one of us. Thank you Bishop Robert, a true Shepherd.

Listening to your talks, was so encouraged with your comment " wasting time with the Lord". I wake up early 3am- 4am every morning n during my morning prayers n leading to the Rosary I so often get sidetracked thanking God for all that I see from my balcony- Jupiter, Mars, the stars the planets the early morning streaks of the rising sun etc etc n just chatting with God. Actually wasting time with Him!!
Always tell myself to he more organised with my morning prayers as I then have to say my Rosary later in the day. Your comment told me it's not too bad to spend time - wasting time - with Lord. Thank you, and all such priests, for encouraging n uplifting us!!

Aileen , spending time with the lord is never a waste of time. If we give time to the lord in prayer , He will reward us with eternity, so it is well worth the bargain !
