@@MichaelRBrown-lh6kn At LEAST 1000 years old. We don't actually know if she was just a kid back when Flamme found her, or not though considering the amount of mana she had, it can be inferred that she had already been around for a while.
I would like to see Kraft meet Sein. I wonder how he will react to someone of the current era being inspired by him. He seems sad that his legacy has been forgotten to time, maybe it would cheer him up to see that he still has a positive impact on people today.
Two things to note here. First is the fact that Kraft is ancient as hell. Many viewers didn't understand that fact when Kraft said that Frieren is young but the series establishes this in this episode as an undeniable truth using a very simple way to do so. The statues. All the statues that Frieren and her companions had are bronze statues. That is because bronze was much easier to use and work with in this era, in real life bronze was used for sculpture from the 15th century AD if I'm not mistaken. In ancient Greece and Rome from 6th century BC up until the 10th century AD the material that was widely used in sculpture was marble. But the statues of Kraft and his companion was stone. Stone statues and figurines were created in the earliest known civilizations such as the Egyptians. That means from 5000 BC to 1000 BC. And that there tells us that when Kraft said that no one lives that remembers his righteous battles and triumphs, he really means it. And this is one of the clues that gives credence to the theory that Kraft was the ancient hero that used the Hero's Sword to defeat a Morgoth level threat back in the Age of Mythology as I mentioned in a previous comment in episode 12, and returned it to the stone after the end of his battle. Because if you see in the statue he is holding a sword that seems to be a little too similar to the Sword on the Stone. And Kraft is not carrying a sword with him right now. And he is a monk. Monks fight using hand to hand martial arts, not weapons. So why does he carry a sword? The answer is because he needed to. And this theory gets even more convincing because Kraft says that he believes in the Goddess wholeheartedly. The reason he believes in her might be because he lived in the Age of Mythology, the only Age that the Goddess revealed herself to the races of the World as Frieren herself told us, and he used the Sword that was Blessed by the Goddess to become the Hero's Sword in order to defeat the ancient evil that threatened to destroy the world. The second thing to note is a misconception that many had about Old man Voll. Voll is starting to forget naturally. He is old and his mind has started to fail. Frieren is shaken from this because she has lived a secluded life in her forest for almost 1000 years after the death of Flamme, never really connecting with anyone and so she was never confronted with the fact that the mortal races might forget things. The Elves of this setting are Tolkienian Elves, meaning that they are practically immortal and have perfect memories. They do not forget anything and can preserve their memories forever. Frieren remembers everything, to her a memory of what she ate yesterday is the same with a memory of fighting over a scroll with Flamme 1000 years ago. That is why she was so shaken with Voll forgetting that they had already defeated the Demon King. Because she understood that her companions would not always remember her if she didn't keep in touch regularly. She never really understood the need to be around everyone because she never forgets anything, so even if she left for 10 years she would still remember everyone and their habits and could reconnect quite easily after that time without any problems. But that is not so for the mortal races. If we up and leave for 10 years and come back to our old town, even if we meet our old friends again, ten years have past, we are different people, with different lives and experiences. And we might have forgotten a lot of the things that connected us in the past. Our memories are not perfect and our connection to the people around us need to be reinforced constantly so that those friendships and connections to continue to exist. Frieren for the first time understood that when she left, she almost made certain that Eisen, Heiter and Himmel would forget her. The very fact that they didn't, that they still remembered her and cherished her still even after she abandoned them for almost 50 years without a single contact is a miracle and only now she understood and appreciated it.
For Kraft, I'm unsure if it gets explained more in the anime, but I don't think so. But the gist of it is that people divide the time on this world into Ages, just like we did with our ancient past, stone, iron, bronze etc. The earliest age that gets mentioned is the "Mythic" age, where the Goddess walked on this world. I think this one got mentioned when we first meet Kraft, and even for him that's just a story he doesn't know the truth of. Then there was like 1-2 other ages, then the age of the Demon King and now the Age of Humans. He's a Hero from one of the unnamed ages. So Kraft is old as shit. At least I think this is how it is, unless I'm misremembering things. There's a bit more info, but that's entering spoiler territory for things that will get talked about during this season.
as noted, its not clearly noted. We don't get a clear picture of the history or pre-history of this world or the political make up. All we can gather is he is an ancient hero from before the time of Flamme, as his statue is stone and not bronze AND his clothing (and of his companion) is an older style then Flamme's time. We still don't know who Kraft's companion is, either.
0:38 You should check out Spice & Wolf (the 2024 remake). It has a somewhat comparable vibe with a longlived being journeying to an important place from their past and forming new ralationships after being alone for a long time, and an emphasis on character & world building.
The look in Himmel's eyes in the flashback says so much. Hearing Voll's tinged with sadness but also tragic love tale about his wife convinced him to not persue his own undying love for the semi-immortal elf. He couldn't do that to her. Also, you cut it in the youtube, but that wistful smile on Frieren's face as the "complained" about using up her memory on handsome poses was so revealing. She's realizing how much she cares for that idiot who complimented her spells. And yeah, Kraft is the oldest humanoid still walking the earth that we've met.
I like to think that the reason Himmel's party was able to beat the demon king is because of all these errands and side quests. All the other attempts must've been made by folks who went straight for the target, and had minimal experience when they faced the DK. Like people who speedrun games, and have a difficult time with the final boss because they're underlevelled. Himmel's group did all the side quests, gained max XP, got the power up, and won the game.
Possibilities I see for Gorilla Warrior - He's on an epic quest, so urgent that he couldn't return on time. The team will help him save the day. He's dead, and Sein will continue with Frieren to see him in Aureole. He's injured, and the one-legged Gorilla settled down with a wife and kids in some village but is thrilled to see Sein.
Either he died somewhere on the way to Tur, is living in Tur now, or has gone on an adventure after Tur, and is either dead, or still out adventuring. I am placing my beats on either died in Tur, or in an adventure after Tur though otherwise in the entire 10 years after settling there he never ONCE sent a letter to his best buddy Goatee Priest?
My best guess for how long Kraft has been around is somewhere in the ballpark of 5000-8000yrs give or take a few thousand considering his "You're still young" comment that he hit Frieren with when they were talking.
Got to love this anime for giving us some of the best old man characters. Just you wait there's only more to come and I love them all. This episode grabbed me my heart and squeezed when it's clear his memory is starting to go only to be uplifted when he speaks of his wife. To put this into a single word: OMFGTHISSHOWISFANTASTICANTIMGOINGTOCRYSTOPIT!STOPIT!MYHEARTARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elves seem to not die from natural causes in the world of Frieren. It appears to be a violent death or some type of voluntary ascension, like in LOTR / Tolkien. Starvation and exposure are possibilities also. As Kraft is a grade SSR+ badass who keeps training and seems disinterested in major heroics anymore(otherwise he would have been active in the demon war... Maybe...), I'm not confident he will get to meet his goddess anytime soon.
My guess is that Kraft probably took part in the Era of the Demon King but probably in a VERY minor way as to avoid bring much attention to himself. My best guess is that if he bumped into demons he would just go ahead, and kill them but didnt bother actively seeking them out to avoid essentially all of demon-kind hunting him down. Imagine the Demon King finds out you, an ancient hero from WAY back is still around and kicking that seems like a good way to get an entire race of creatures hunting you to the ends of the earth.
I think I like your reaction vids more so than others, because there's a lot more effort put into it c: You guys show emotions and make jokes and those funny cutouts and whatnot. Most people just watch with a resting bitch face and at the end are like "so uh, I really liked it. What do you guys think. Like and subscribe for more resting bitch face content."

Remember Kraft said there is ne one left who remembers his righteous triumphs. He’s real old.
Frieren is a 1000 years old and didn't know who he was. That should tell you something....

The villagers mention they’ve never seen Voll able to hold a conversion so well. They might just not be able to get a reason out of him.
Frieren also said that he likes to troll people that way

I feel like he has to meet Kraft at some point, maybe even become his apprentice in some way? The story seems well setup for something like that.

The eszett (ß) in Außerst is pronouned like ss.
So, Ausserst, not Auberst. 🙂
