just play for yourself or for fun and don't look at the others. Play maps that you enjoy (pp maps are fun sometimes)

@@R3551N skill grants pp. If that wasn't the case I could just farm sotarks maps with dt and get 700 pp plays. But I cant do that because it's too hard. Farm maps are not easy, they're just very rewarding if you do manage to fc them
idc some farm maps have fun af jumps but tbh i just go to 4 star and click random
fact check: 5 years ago there were definitely maps intended for PP farming, but they were targeted towards lower ranked players (AR8 DT, 100-250pp, low BPM. think koigokoro, jamaican love, daydream cafe etc)
mappers had already figured out back then that DT + jumps = pp, even if the pp system only had been out for a few months
the farm map is still relevant today but in a different way, they're usually geared towards the top 100 to farm and get the highest PP scores instead of helping the normal player get more pp

bro if we use score as a metric it's literally just playcount. also that would make xasuma #1. sure he's good, dedicated, and a great person, but the best skillwise in osu.

Eeehhh... not necessarily. Those maps do have some merits - regardless if they're perceived as monotonous or terrible - of quality and experience of the mapper. Claiming that they should never be ranked is an audacious statement, since they follow the pre-determined ranking criteria that has been established by mappers years ago and is still polished today. That's why these types of maps will continue to be ranked no matter what your opinion is. They follow the criteria.
Commanding people not to play them is not an effective strategy either. People WILL play the maps they enjoy, and they won't stop because a few other people are complaining about the work of the mapper. Taking it a step farther, those "farmers" don't care who the mapper is, they simply want to accumlate performance points. If that's what they enjoy doing, we shouldn't prevent them from doing so.
Currently, this video sounds like more of a rant/complaints about Sotarks than a developed argument with evidence (the lack of a script supports this). Although I do agree with some of your points in the video, I would try an establish an unbiased argument. Your gameplay isn't convincing me either...
A more mature approach to this situation instead of complaining would be to open the editor yourself and create maps that you believe to be "high-quality". Whether it's the polar opposite of pp maps or not, mapping is pretty subjective, so you can justify pretty much anything as long as it logically follows the song. In addition, there are over 60,000 ranked beatmapsets in osu!standard, so you should be able to discover something you like that isn't a "pp map".
That's not what this video is about! It's about a scenario that should be, in a perfect world in my opinion. In no way do I think it'd be plausible reasonably to not allow these to be ranked. This video is just about an ideal world.
I never told people to not play them. At the end of the video I literally stated that you can play whatever you want. I just said "If you yourself don't want to see something happen, actually do something, boycott it" (or something like that).
This video is not about hating Sotarks. This is (apparently) me hating on your idea of a generic Sotarks map. Maps like Blade Dance that he mapped is an exactly of a good map he made. Gold Dust by Sotarks, is an example of a bad map he made. It's all subjective, as you said, but when a majority says they're bad maps, I don't think they should be ranked.
I tried editing in the past, I wasn't terrible, but was by no means good in any way. I just didn't have fun with it. My issue lies with the fact that these harumachi clover maps are being made and they're essentially the same thing, and each one is just terrible, and the majority of people think that they're bad.
To be honest pp maps are supposed to be allowed because the whole system of osu is based on pp, like id you want to gain pp you play pp maps, if you don’t care about pp, just don’t play them, this video has no sense

there is no problem in maps, they might be boring if its just 1-2 but the problem is in PP sytem not in mapping..

So im somehow "new" to Osu. I played long just for myself and friends without caring about the game or its system. Recently i started to play more serious, gaining information for everything, to understand more. I got taught that Sotarks is "bad" since he's doing farming maps. and i saw (even if i have trouble passing them since im still pretty bad) that these are a lot of my favourites. Since they are challenging and short. A good way to start into harder maps imo. I play a lot of different stuff but this kinda jumpy maps are hella fun for me so i play them the most. Am i a PP farmer now? i dont even care about my rank. Why are people complaining about these maps? If people get undeserved PP and are in rank XX they improved not enough to keep that going or compare themselves to others, since they are not as good as someone who earned that through hard work. Let People play what they want. Everyone is supposed to have fun and its fair since everyone will reach that xx PP play one day if they keep playing on an easy map or a hard one.

@@GavinosuHighlights true i kinda lost the point while writing that huge one ^^. I think its okay, its good work and should be ranked. Maybe with a new system something will change (Osu Lazer etc). I understand that PP farming for non "ab"user can be frustrating since they have a harder time climbing that section, but it will be worth for sure at the end. In competitive you should focus on improving yourself, thats key. If you ever play a turnament or w/e against a farmer, give him some nice maps u worked for and hes gonna fail or wait that half a year or w/e and snipe his ranks (or their who cares). Thats my opinion, we can not do much about it than just accept it anyway

There are two ways to make your map appealing: 1. Be creative 2. Give big pp. Guess which one is easier. Although pp maps don't "break" the ranking system like alot of salty six digits say, they do discourage innovation and that's kinda sad

it doesn't matter if it gives an over weighted amount of pp, if the map represents the song, that is what would make it rankable.

Gavin - osu! It does. They are well mapped, high jumps for stronger sounds in the music, streams when there’s drum part. And i don’t think you can map better honestly.

I think the songs are represented fairly in a lot of "farm" maps in boring but acceptable ways (increased spacing in more intense parts of the song, intuitive flow + design, overall normal mapping) and I don't see how they wouldn't represent the song well if done correctly

the whole video is just bullshit...
yes it is true pp farming isnt great but without these maps their wouldnt be nice clips of the "better players" or even if its a farm map (maybe its just me) but its not always easy and it takes skill aswell for example ai no sukima hddt.
maybe some ppl agree but you need good reading skills and decent aim for this... yes you can practice (like me but still got 2 fails 384pp) but it makes no sense when someone says pp farm maps are trash and cant even farm these themselves (no offensive tho) still ai no sukima is still the biggest farm map thats a point where i totally agree but when we compare blade dance with other maps i think this is the first map sotarks made wich isnt that overweighted (just my op) i think just smaller/shorter maps like ai no sukima should be nerfed but not every maps that atleast require some skill.

レオン ya i totally agree also the majority of the osu! community are competitive players like me so we need pp maps. Sure they are very simple with jumps like 1-2 1-2 but they are still hard. And if peppy deletes all pp farm maps (and it will never happen) then it would break the osu community. A vast majority of the players will quit because there’s no maps anymore and for those who played competitively will loose all their ranks and pp. So no offense to you( gavin), stop talking nonsense and proposing shit ideas without thinking about others players.
i feel as though maps such as ai no sukima have no place in the ranking system. the spacing is terrible, and it doesn't match the music. sotarks' blade dance honestly isn't a bad map. it matches the song well. that does belong ranked.

the biggest problem i think is that there are so many unranked maps that SHOULD be ranked but dont get enough attention. i think they should work more on ranking maps from unknown mappers that are actually playable and fun.

I could have misinterpreted the video a bit, but I think he wasn't saying to de rank all farm maps, it just that some farm maps aren't mapped with much thought or care and maybe some more rules for rankable maps should be put in place.

No! If they would do that, then Maps with the same Star ratio would give you the same pp, but there are many maps out there in the 6-7* area which are harder in my opinion than the other, even if it has the same star ratio, and that would make pp mapperst force to do insane cross screen jumps, spaced streams etc, that would NEVER fix the situation

pp maps are fine, if you don't like the pp maps, don't play them. overall osu's just for fun, play whichever maps make you happy and enjoy the game.

They follow the ranking criteria, whether they are "pp" maps. Some hate them, some love them, regardless of that they don't break the rules therefore they should be allowed to be ranked.
All in all, every map gives pp.
So best thing to do is just play the game, an enjoy it at your own pace.

Well it really dosen't, people have different goals and aspirations so the mappers just take care of the needs of the majority, people who want pp in the least effort and time possible
You mentioned Log off now's new map and after you mention that you think this shouldn't give pp but that is what ai no sukima (log off now's map) does it has like 4 patterns and that's it for the hard part
but that's my point. there's difficulty spikes that represent the music horribly.

And when you play a rythm game you don't play for pp, you play for the song, that why those maps exist its litterally anime op or ed all time and people like that, pp maps or not.
Zadrix sure they can criticize but we even posted a video on youtube talking about deleting all ranked pp maps which basically means deleting around half of the total ranked maps in GAME. If we wanted to criticize sure he can, but why on youtube ?! Just do it on the osu forum
