I am glad some of the keeb youtubers finally said that there is nothing wrong with stiff builds. I find them very nice for gaming, especially paired with some flat key caps.
If you like some uniform profile keycaps, try some DOYS keycaps. I just wish they had legends. I recently had these and have been enjoying them on a gaming board (but only if you know where stuff is without looking).
Glad to see this - my favorite board in my selection is a stiff, all-alu top-mount. I have some bouncy boards, but they aren't objectively better in any way. Overly-bouncy boards are big in the community now, but I can't help thinking they'll go from the end-all, be-all to a semi-popular option over the next year or so, in the same way super-tactile switches did a while back.
Just built mine today, the LED blocker can be removed and the black piece covers half, just remove it if you want the full LED. Thanks for the Video, Scott!
when i got around to building a board myself early last year and started seeing the trends towards all of this bounce and flex cut stuff it weirded me out tbh. I got the chance to try one out and was NOT a fan. I love the board i built with a very solid brass plate and minimal bounce.
imho stiff typing experience isn't bad as long as the bottom out isn't harsh. Some switches, the plate, and of course the mounting do make a difference. That brass plate and 1.6mm PCB are probably doing a lot of work to give this board big sound. Yet another interesting board providing good value and options.
I am trying to keep in rotation some of my older (and quite stiff) keyboards, trying to find which switches and keycaps improve the experience. I have a KBD67 Mark II with brass plate, as stiff as it gets, but I am enjoying it with some KTT Grapefruit switches. Funny thing is that neither the board nor the switches are top class, specially for today standards .. but they work quite OK together. I think it is interesting to upgrade or retrofit some of these old keyboard glories.
My board is arriving today, same finish and I'm also putting DCX Latte on it. Great to see what it would look like before building it! Thx for another fun review.
@@Keybored I installed Latte and used it for a couple days but replaced it with NK Copper. Finally a board that I think actually looks great with that set!
Hey, love the vid, its so surprising hearing yours since there had been a few others I've heard that are way different, it might very much be the switch, and dang that's loud! Hearing others are tad bit softer, I thought it might've been due to the holes (sound leak instead of reverb), now convinced it's otherwise. Not sure if I'd pick one up for myself but glad to see the return of value sound-focus keebs, instead of screen+knob stuff under 200. Thanks for the vid scott! 😁
Yeah! I was surprised how loud and proud this thing was! I'm sure the tactile switches are playing a part here, but it Def wasn't as quiet as I initially thought!

appreciate the review Scott, definitely an impressive board for the price! That sandwich mount definitely gives me too mount vibes sound-wise! I’ll admit I’ve personally preferred softer plate materials in my top mount board (a Sonnet), but it’s all preference, and I definitely dig the crisp sound!
Yup! Im still amazed at the different options coming out and how we move around from one concept to another constantly! I thought this was a baby tenet at first and I realized it kind of looks like it, but are Def different
The three holes in the bottom are, from what I heard, for the bluetooth wireless connection or it at least helps it. Most boards implement an antenna in the front facing side of the pcb or sometimes even on the plate. Instead this board has it on the bottom of the pcb
This is probably a hot take, but hear me out: this keyboard, latte/chai tea colour scheme keycaps, specialty coffee/tea cafe, and semi-transparent cashier stand.
As someone who realy likes the tactility of mechanical keyboard stiff is the way to go, even the weakest of flex gasket mount feels so terriblLY... weak. slap an alu (iron/steel even) plate mounted, non-flex PCB, tactile or clicky with no less than 70g actuation force? HEAVEN.
The half lightbar is intentional, based on the pictures on the product page. In the group buy they will have one that has full light. I have one coming soon and got the sandwich plate... might actually try it out with some long pole switches, for fun.
I dont know why or how (especially when I hate typing on screens/laptops/low profiles), but I hate bouncy/spongy keyboards. Drop the pcb on the table and i'm good to go :D So I think this would be a very decent buy for me, thanks Scott
Thanks for this video. Mine just arrived today and I am still deciding if I would build this with the PC plate or the alu plate, but the alu plate I ordered was a conventional layout one so if I chose to build it with it, it won’t be the southpaw layout. Nonetheless, I am excited to build this!
maybe I'm just a follower of trends but I just bought a copper plate for my envoy, coming in later this week and can't wait to try the durock lupines on it.
I have to confess that I still don't get bouncy keyboards. They feel cheap under my fingers, like they might snap at any moment. I like stiff keyboards because they feel solid and sturdy. The correct amount of softness is usually provided by the switches themselves, for me.
Hey, going back to a "stiff" keyboard for a week, I didn't feel like it was torture or anything... I mean for my standard usage, it was perfectly fine!
Very interesting! Looks like with the right switches this could be a great board for gamers as you could use the F row on the side as macro keys. Was it VIA/QMK compatible? I think I missed that.
I've only had budget-premade boards, and they're all stiff. Can't imagine how cheap and imprecise a flexible board would feel. If your fingers hurt, type softer (and/or get stiffer/2 stage/progressive springs) you orcs!
“Some like it soft, some like it hard” Scott K 2024
I heard that and immediately opened the comments lol.
Hahaha
Literally came here to comment that lol!
"Some like it when they actually get killed. I mean, a head getting crushed between thighs kinda thing."

There’s actually a plastic piece under the led diffuser on the top case that can be removed to change the half lightbar to full.
Haha I have to try this!

just took the blocker out. still not sure what they were going for having it half blocked like that.

sold my qk75 and tofu for this and didnt regret it a single bit. truly a great work and play keyboard. this is my one-and-done

What mod would you recommend to address the rattle and loose sounding signature of the g915?
I created the flexi build but with Glorious pandas, very poppy as well.

got this in the same color. doing a latte or chai themed keyboard is a great idea. might have to pick up those keycaps lol

I Def prefer the sound with the full alu plate in sandwich form... Not the softest that way, but Def wasn't uncomfortable
unpopular opinion: hard brass plate boards are the best.
Definitely unpopular, lol. But I have a 4mm brass plate in one of my boards, and I don't entirely hate it 😂

The three slots on the bottom of the case is for Bluetooth.
wrong its for sound daring run said it on their insta
I wonder what this board would sound like with Cerakey caps.
Or the aluminum awekeys... Probably wild!
I need them to do an X98 r2, easily ny favourite version of the 1800/98% in recent memory. Hopefully they wait until I can afford it though :^)
Hey Scott where did you get that usb cable you use?
That's like a machine gun? Damn. My oil kings in this tofu must be a galing gun!
Used Latte for my wifes QK100 such a nice set
I wonder if those vents in the bottom sound different if placed on a deskmat.
I'm sure it does since the mat actually covers them
Stiff mounts are amazing for the sound
Yeah! Uses the whole keyboard to produce sound and not on modifiers like pe foam!
will you review the keychron v5 max next?
Is this a new era of keybored, K-pop keybored, k bored?!
Haha Keybored Pop
A keyboard with its PCB mounted straight on the metal base......
Best intro fr
Haha thanks! I had to throw in a koala or two
Isnt a stiff keyboard just a normal one....
its the type 99.7% of people are using
Appreciate the review of DR-70F, GB Sale Date: 1st Feb to 1st March 2024!!!
It was a great board!
I have one sandwich mount board, a TX75 v2 with a brass plate. Never again.
Haha I think if you go with a softer plate, may be ok!

Yup! Supposed to be!
I was thinking the same
Most people use stiff keyboards all the time as membranes or scissors do not have any flex.
Elitists when they watch this: *Impossible*
Wait what
Lol I guess depends on how old they are also

Me too! Good clean sound
What a machine gun 😲🔫
Imagine throwing in even louder switches lol
imho music was kinda loud, maybe fix that next time?
Was it? I thought I had it set the same as usual. I have to check
Everything is beautiful but it's takes more space than a TKL😢
Yeah it does. I felt I needed to show the Mr. Suit next to it as reference
hey man way you talking about which why my keyboard swings are you misgendering my keyboard 🤣🤣1:35
