  • Loch Awe Railway Station on the old Callander & Oban Railway closed in 1965 but re-opened in 1985. the station once had two platforms, jetty and a pier for tourists to take steamer cruises on the loch. A Mark 1 carriage is located here and used to be a tea room.

I camped at Loch Awe in the 80s. It must have been before 1985 as Loch Awe station wasn't open. I got off the train at Dalmally. You are bringing back lots of fond memories for me!

+Ian Dalgleish Glad to hear it. I came close to being knocked over by a train here in the 1970s as we were staying at the hotel and I went exploring, pushed through the Rhododendrons and a train whizzed by inches away - no platform then.

Thank you Roger for a lovely upload of Loch Awe Railway Station it is EXACTLY what I was looking for my blog about a fictitious Girls College. In one of my stories the scene was placed looking from the station platform across to Kilchurn Castle. Your video laced me there. Great quality video. One question why was one platform closed down? There was another great upload by Scott. Sorry I cannot give you heaps of thumbs up. Ms Bridgette..

Dear Ms Bridgette, I am pleased that you liked the video. I stayed at the hotel as a child and nearly got knocked down by a train! Dalmally station is near by and it has a passing loop so they closed the second platform to save money - fewer trains these days. Boats used to leave from the jetty and the station was busier. The hotel pushed for it to be re-opened.
