- The job of LAFD firefighter pilots is risky and awe-inspiring. It requires specialized skill, extensive on-going training and tremendous responsibility. These Los Angeles City Fire Department pilots never know what a shift may bring, from massive wild fires to cliffside hiker rescues to saving someone from raging flood waters. But one thing is for sure - lives literally hang in the balance for this elite crew of first responders. Take a look as they share their experience with one of the more daring and challenging rescues they’ve faced - lifting both people and pets off a burning high rise during the Barrington Plaza inferno in Brentwood, California.
For these and all the brave men and women of the LAFD, should anything ever happen to them during a lifetime of service, the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund is here to fulfill their needs. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity founded more than a century ago, our organization is dedicated to helping the families of LAFD firefighters facing a serious crisis, such as being injured or killed in the line of duty. Thanks to kind and generous contributions, the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund makes a significant impact, providing assistance with basic living expenses, health insurance premiums, durable medical equipment, and awarding memorial scholarships to children of firefighters who died while active duty.
What does this take? I’m currently in a academy about 6 hours north of LA. This looks awesome and I hope I can get an opportunity to do something like this one day
