I would love to see the rest of this hairstyle! No fair leaving us hanging like that! I had hair that long when I was in my 30s, but it is short, now. She has gorgeous hair!
Watching this video is making me feel so relaxed. If I was this girl I would have fallen asleep. Every time anyone plays with my hair I fall asleep, it feels so much better than a full body massage. Lol
The hairstyle is actually very painful to wear and have done because of how hard it is pulled back( many develop baldspots from it) and in the video you can tell how hard the hairdresser was already pulling. It is likely not a relaxing experience at all and she deserves props for never letting out a sound
Amazing. They must get excruciating headaches with all their hair tied up so tightly. Apparently a Maiko and geisha have to sleep sitting up in order not to ruin their style, because in real life, they only see the hairdresser once a week. I went on a Geisha spotting night tour, in Gion, Kyoto about a month ago. Learnt some fascinating information about geisha and Maiko..
Only maikos use real hair and the still sleep laying down but they use a special head support when they sleep. Geikos wear wigs so the can sleep in any position they want
Looks like ofuku to me. The end goes something like this, once the giant hair extension is wrapped around the base of the mage and the cord through the looped hair, the loop is pulled forwards towards the forehead, the loop is fanned out to two thirds of a circle and then literally tied back around itself. That stick you see at 8:47 is actually a hair extension seriously caked in wax. Another extension is added to the base of the forelock section so that it runs along the base of the cont...
Now that's the way you're supposed to do it! I'm glad after all this time. They were able to keep some of their old traditions! This makes me happy! :-)
My father's shotokan instructor who was from Japan also had his pinkie nail long, with the rest cut short. He said it was for scratching (although obviously this guy could have different reasons, but it could also be a cultural quirk of sorts)
impressive how fast he is and that the poor girl will actually sleep with her hair like that anyone else wonder how it comes out again without ripping up her hair?
... existing piece the whole lot is shaped and then tied off with a double knotted red cord, then it is tied again a few inches further back. Then secured to the base of the mage along with the other leftovers and tucked out of sight. A few little flyaways here and there, teragami in the back and then kanzashi etc to finish it off.
It's beautiful! But it's really complicated! I used to have long hair but I can't stand to do my hair ready each day. It tooks me a lot of time! :( I've had my haircut - tomboy hairstyle - so it takes me 30s to get my hair ready. How fast it is? Really fast! Anyway, love this video. It teaches me a lot about working effectively~ :D
They don't take them out at night. They get their hair done like, once a week and then they have to maintain the style. So no itching or pulling or tugging... and no sleeping on it. They learn to sleep on neck blocks that hold their heads off of the floor.
back in the days, was this a common hair style that everyone wore, or was it just a rich elite people thing? Because it seems a lot of effort and time needs to be dedicated to this pretty hairstyle.
@lindacat86 a maiko uses a special type pillow which is a block of wood with a small cusion on top and the rest their neck on the cusion and there head kind of gets supported up but im sure it would hurt alot
@FiestyCat Yes, it is true. The hair is pulled very tightly and caked in wax. When their scalps itch, they use the pointed ends of their hair ornaments to scratch it, causing breakage to the roots and further damaging the hairline. In the old days, it was a badge of honour, but now many of them simply get it fixed through a simple operation.
Why don't you fix camcorder or smartphone on the tripod? If the source of this video is NOT copy-controlled, you can capture the video into your PC, and upload it❥
How do I find part 2 ? I wanted to see the finished look. Please put part 2 up on youtube soon Thank You. I am going to subscribe and click the bell so I will not miss the part 2.
+Sonja Muir Apparently often times Maiko develop premature bald spots from all of the pulling. Can you imagine having all that wonderful hair and still getting a bald spot? They must pull like mad. Ouch!
It's waxes really only comparable to western pomade but even that isn't as hardcore as the wax they use for their hair it usually comes in brick or bar you can buy it online
dang the hairstylist has some nice hands... - and she has wonderfully thick hair. The long pinky might mean he is a 'blue blood' showing that he does no hard labour - it could be used for picking and scratching as well not sure though, among westerners it means you are a coke head or dealer. it could mean financial luck.
I don't know about the neck-rest, although I believe it's padded a little to help. In the earliest stages of their training, it's traditional for rice husks to be scattered around the neck-rest and if the girl accidentally rolls off it in the night she gets rice husks all over her hair! It's supposed to train them to sleep neatly, without messing up the style. The style itself gets itchy and uncomfortable pretty quickly because of the wax, hence it needing to be washed and re-set once a week. And because of the way it's all anchored against that single bunch on the crown of the head, it's common for maiko to develop a bald spot there - they call it the "medal of honour".
If you would like to know where to find everything on how too get the makeup and hair correct, go to ebay and look for hannari-ya is the seller. They have everything from bathing items to makeup, to the little book and dvd that even shows you how to do all of this. :) Good luck. Okibari yasu minnahan.
espectacular... y ni una horquilla. Yo ya hubiera puesto tres mil pinzas y tres mil horquillas... XDDD. Curioso porque los maikos o ssuelen hacer los hombres peluqueros y no las peluqueras....

Can you imagine how long it takes to learn how to do this? Amazing craftsmanship.
please, is there a part 2? the man was not done, i would like to see how me completes it.:)
katana489 I literally shouted “noooo” when it cut off
Geisha actually get a bald spot because they tug their hair so much, i heard that they consider it a medal for their perseverance.
Full geiko wear a wig

Her hair is so perfect, sleek and silky...
I love their tradition! It's so reserve and spiritual breathtaking.
he is practically sculpting her hair, this is amazing
I just can't stop looking at his pinkie nail...
Its good luck!
Its a coke nail! :D
My father's shotokan instructor who was from Japan also had his pinkie nail long, with the rest cut short. He said it was for scratching (although obviously this guy could have different reasons, but it could also be a cultural quirk of sorts)
I think its for good luck.. but it could be a coke nail!!! ;D
Amby Fu ▶️. Eww... I hate long nails for men. 😯😦😲
she has beautiful hair and he makes it seem so easy to do...
'Twas like building a house...
Overall, artfully magnificent!
...and, here we have the worlds most complicated ponytail ever.
Then you have to see tayuu and oiran hairstyles! 🤪
She has such beautiful shiny hair!!!
Does anyone else want her amazing hair?
If I had a thousand years, I could never get my hair to be that perfect, shiny and silky.
he used wax to get it shiny like that.
Traditionally camellia flower oil was used.
impressive how fast he is
and that the poor girl will actually sleep with her hair like that
anyone else wonder how it comes out again without ripping up her hair?
Bintsuke-abura. It's a wax or oil based substance commonly used also as a base for theatrical makeup (Kabuki, etc.)
She has so much hair, is amazing, I have half of the hair she has and mine is curly. I always fascinated with people with a lot of hair
Why in the world you would cut off the ending to this is beyond me.
I wish I had hair like that. Mine is so thin and stringy :(
Where is the rest of the video? I can't just leave this unfinished! XD
Where's the rest of it?!
キレイな富士額ですね。日本髪似合いそうだなぁ
This is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. 0_o. I cannot wait to get my hair done like that!
Is there a part 2????

Where can they be purchased? They look amazing, I want one.
The pointy hairlines are so gorgeous to me....idk why
It's beautiful! But it's really complicated!

That woman has seriously beautiful hair. I'm just amazed by it as I am his artistry.
So creative and artistic! I love it!
They used to use this black polish looking product in there hair in the old days so their hair would stay in place. What was that product called
her hair is so beautifully beautiful O.O
Absolutely breathtaking skills this man has
that is one unique comb he's working with there at the beginning
Can you add part 2 and please set your recording device on a flat surface?
lightsoutisay fuck u
I see nothing wrong with this simple, accurate request.
i would get irritated with so many things in my hair and to take them out at night and do it again. Hats off to geishas !

I love that movie, and I totally agree... It all is making sense now(:
@lindacat86 a maiko uses a special type pillow which is a block of wood with a small cusion on top and the rest their neck on the cusion and there head kind of gets supported up but im sure it would hurt alot
What is the cost of doing this either weekly OR dailily?
Would love to see the second part of this because I am always curious how the bun is created.
I wanted to see finished product. He wasn't done ye

すげぇ。髪の中にワイヤー入れるんだ…

地毛結いすげぇ!
髷まで見たかった…
Pretty
the skill of the hairstylist makes me go wow...and the model's hair is so thick..but wheres is the finish look tho..
Her hair is so beautiful!
I get a headache just watching this. The result is beautiful though
How do I find part 2 ? I wanted to see the finished look. Please put part 2 up on youtube soon Thank You. I am going to subscribe and click the bell so I will not miss the part 2.
This is absolutely facsinating. :O
That looks SO painful
YuYu Amie ...They still wear that wax because maiko still use their hair for their hairstyles.
+Sonja Muir Apparently often times Maiko develop premature bald spots from all of
the pulling. Can you imagine having all that wonderful hair and still
getting a bald spot? They must pull like mad. Ouch!
I agree it looks painful
You can try. I think, modern hair waxes are not so strong. But You don't need to keep this hair dressing for one week as maiko-san does.
How disappointing that the ending is cut off!!!!
I can’t even get a messy bun to look right!
Why type of string is he using?
Always curious with this hair styles since childhood....and the key is wax..
No, wax no: oils are better... I like argan and yuzu oils 😁
On the RUclips upload page it says not to upload shows from TV. Why do you do it?
Wow I always wanted to see this. I hope you upload the remaining demonstration.
Imagine trying to grow your hair just for this
So if want to do this I just can use wax for it?
many maiko develop a bald spot in the center of their scalp due to this hairstyles
Dam that middle one caught up in a ponytail I hope it's not too tight. Plus all the weight it's going to have to bear holding the rest of the hair
What is the white thing he but on her hair?
she has such a beautifull hair god
Very interesting but we didn't get to see the finished hairdo.
And here I was thinking they used wigs....
flyby501 when they have completed their training they do, till then their own hair is stilled and dressed
Geisha/Geiko use wigs, Maiko use their real hair
Love the hairstyle, but that one hair that he missed at the front on the right triggered my OCD!!
how long does it take
That piece of hair in her face drove me nuts lol.
At what stage of a maiko's training does she wear the wareshinobu hairstyle?
What kind of combs are those?
What is he putting in her hair to make it extra shiny? I need some of that!
It's waxes really only comparable to western pomade but even that isn't as hardcore as the wax they use for their hair it usually comes in brick or bar you can buy it online
Lilli Ogden Thanks!
whats the name of the wodden stick tool he's using on her hair to get the pursisted lines in it?
A wooden comb I believe
alright. thank you.
What is that hair dressing he's using? Didn't they used to use beeswax?
@attackofdameepits the wax was my guess, they put it in before they sculpt, which was the course of action here
could you use gel in stead of white stuff?
donde esta el final????
Are you going to post the rest?!?!
dang the hairstylist has some nice hands... - and she has wonderfully thick hair.
The long pinky might mean he is a 'blue blood' showing that he does no hard labour - it could be used for picking and scratching as well not sure though, among westerners it means you are a coke head or dealer.
it could mean financial luck.
I was married to a Persian who kept his pinkie nails long. He told me it was the custom.
続きがない!!!!!!!!
Actually, eventually the hair does fall out. Some of them have small bald spots..but they don't see it as anything bad. They kind of take pride in it.
That is art! ❤
Do you have the full version of this?
Did women used to sleep with their hair undone or was the style permanent for a while until they needed to get it redone by the hairdresser?
+ms hmeecill They sleep with their head on a special neck-rest that doesn't disturb the style, and it gets washed and re-styled once a week.
i can only imagine how uncomfortable it feels
I don't know about the neck-rest, although I believe it's padded a little to help. 『富士額は美人の証』
富士額は日本髪と和服姿に適していると言われています。
最近の日本人でも富士額の人の数は減ってきているそうですよ。
それにしても、結構力を入れて髪を引っ張りながら髪を結うんですね…
This is the coolest video i'v seen yet ;) *.-
床屋さんが舞妓さんヘアーにしてはる。結構、硬く結っている。鬢付け油が乗って艶やかな黒髪。
