From now through November, I will be listening to this repeatedly to damp down the temptation to waste time or attention on 2024 election-related news or social media.
I have fond memories of first hearing ‘Sudden Organ’ before they recorded it back in 1992 at Lounge Ax in Chicago. Ira went berserk on the organ. I consider myself lucky, especially considering they’re not coming to our neck of the woods (NOLA) anytime soon. I lost count, but we must have seen them some 5 or 6 times in Chicago, plus elsewhere. They always delivered the goods, with a few curveballs included. As always, because they’re Yo La Tengo.
The girl's reaction to the beginning on I Heard You Looking is fantastic and also how I imagine I'd be if I get to see Yo La Tengo one day. My closest comparison to this is seeing Malkmus with the Jicks start into In the Mouth a Desert
@@stanleypratt3383 same. I had heard 'I can hear the heart' once maybe twice when I went to see them 23 years ago. I haven't seen a show to beat it yet.
I have been listening Sudden Organ a couple of dozens of times a year for the last 27 years and just realized this song has no guitar... this bass in insane
They're the best. I can't wait to see them on the This Stupid World tour. It'll be my third time. Third time seeing the best live band. Cannot wait!!!!!
Mr McNew is enjoying himself with that burning fuzzy lead bass on Sudden Organ! 2019 and it sounds as fresh as when it was first released. I haven't even reached songs 2,3,4 of this vid yet & I'm stoked!
@@davidyohalem629 What do you mean, "really not"? It's not more forefront than 90+ % of YLT's songs? Or just technically because the organ has a "lead" even though I'm focused on bass not organ every time I listen to this song? It's like you're arguing stats in baseball, while an actual game is underway.
I wasn't really a big ylt fan before seeing this video, but this has to be one of the best live performances I've seen on youtube. I love the noise! And the red jazzmaster Ira plays towards the end is just gorgeous. Wow!
If this is the best you must have been watching some real garbage Gulcin , teenage school band sound if ever there was , Id dont mind rough and ready but this is not music ,not even original kind of style , terrible .
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the woman who screamed at the start of I Heard You Looking and the woman who jumped up on stage at the end are one and the same. I like the little drama that Ira sets up by detuning his guitar as he plays it. I was thinking, does he just end the song on the two strings he didn't touch? Is he going to tune it again in the middle of the song? I can't recall ever seeing a musician change guitars in the middle of a solo before.
Why is that? What's your favorite guitar or guitars? I've played Les Pauls, SGs, Flying Vs and so on, but the Strat just fits by body. I wish I could play a Jazzmaster or Jaguar or Explorer, but the Strat just fits.
Well he plays 2 guitars usually right? A Strat and a Jazzmaster and I feel like I see him with the Jazzmaster more. It's on stand in the background on this video.
Dear YLT, I saw you on your first tour through Seattle. Except for Autumn Sweater your lyrics suck. But gods know I love your anti-melodies. I must admit I liked Sonic Youth at first, but y'all captured my heart. Best of to you three...

Screaming when "I Heard You Looking" starts is like being surprised that it is Christmas Day

Yo La is the best live act I've seen. Blew me away.
Her reaction when they finished was even better! I'm going to assume that was her..
I had that exact Jicks experience in 2018 but this is even more amazing.

the way ira just goes fucking bonkers on sudden organ is so delightful to me

Still playing Tom Courtenay, after all these years. Awesome.
I have "I Heard You Looking" set up as the morning alarm on my phone. Always eases me gently into my day.

Yo La Tengo's live performances are fantastic!
i wanna be like Ira! love Georgia's groove behind the kit. she always looks so chill and relaxed
those bass chords are ripping awesome. one of my favorites from YLT
I miss live gigs, especially ones that sound like this.
I heard you looking -- masterpiece song and masterpiece performance.
Great 4 songs. Drug Test and I Heard You Looking are in my top 10 all-time YLT songs
lmao i can totally relate to that girl screaming at the beginning of I Heard You Looking
inferno de banda genial.

Except it's not McNew. It's Ira Kaplan. James McNew is playing bass
@@davidyohalem629 That's what I said!
@@seanoneil277 Sorry, I misread your comment. It's not really a lead bass, though.

Thanks 4 the upload...that sound is awesome
Insane! Cracked the audience! Beautiful!!!!!
Love this band so much
Sun Ra would approve of the first track! (Of course, Ira knows Sun Ra)
Go Ira! He should make an exercise video.

Do we know who was guesting on keyboards for "I Heard You Looking"?
YLT long term tour manager, Joe Puleo.
Ira Kaplan is speaking in tongues with six strings and an amp.
Omg what a set

The Greeks love you Ira
also a bit of 'where I belong' and 'cherry chapstick'

love Ira, hate the fact that he favors Strats.

He did tend to play that green Eastwood quite a bit.

who cares about lyrics and melody when you have yo la tengo
please post some of your lyrics and i'll judge if they suck

Simple music for simple people.
What about this is simple?
@@caseytins there is no real identifiable melody. It's all like mild noise punk. Melody with creative chord progression is not simple
