- Absolute sonic bliss, and the best 'Hood' of all time?
Everyone has their favorite version for one reason or another, but without a doubt this gem is always toward the top of the list.
I couldn't find a good place to stream the tune online, so I threw it up here with a few simple pictures. Hope you enjoy.

This hood moves me to tears everytime. Greatest rock solo of all time imo.
Agreed - transcendent stuff here
TheFoam91 mos def! Greatest solo of all time! And we get to hear it whenever we want!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was there! 4 th row, Pageside
Same, tears everytime. 12/31/93 may be my favorite show...
This show has some of the best solos period check out the reba next
This is one of the better songs about milk that I've heard. Top 5 probably
spoiler: the other 4 are also other versions of harry hood
I'm curious what would round out the rest of your top 5.
Top 3 for me.
Absolute peak Phish right here. Incredible.
This is the kind of hood where you just start laughing in pure joy around the peak
or crying.. or both ❤

Trey's solo is obviously transcendent here. But, Fishman's cymbal work is absolutely unreal.
@Archie Enoch get a life
Without the rest of the band
Only a fraction of Trey’s magic could happen
Here we see the display of the rest of the band elevating him to his rightful position
This might be the greatest “guitar solo” of all time. I’m serious.
@@carminestoppiello9906 beautifully said. Thank you ❤
One of the very best jams, ever.
Daniel Ramirez indeed
4 years later and I'd still agree 🤘
Agreed, got a lil taste of everything. AND I LOVE TO TASTE IT ALL
At least one thing in this mad world has stayed constant….. you can always feel good about hood.
i'l always feel good about Hood
I’m back again and cried again. If you listen to this and you still don’t get IT, you never will.
back again as well. Crying
11/22/97 makes me cry more
This was the first time I had seen Phish in a venue larger than 2000. I think it held 17.5 and I was floored, entire show is absolutely unbelievable.
There will never ever be anything like this musical bliss appreciate it while we can Trey has brought me and my family together music Phish is a magical place that is unlike anything else you have a bad day listen to these guys for a few minutes and u realize how beautiful the world can be
Correct
Damn right
caught the night before this in Portland, ME. my first show.. the stage was an aquarium.... i was hooked!
i was there, i was there, thank sweet jesus in heaven, i was there.
Outstanding!
Was there too! And yes, I couldn’t describe it any better!
@@philpjacob9652 wow! What I would t give to experience this live. Truly one of treys best!!!
my favorite show I saw, best Hood ever
No matter how I'm feeling, this recording ALWAYS brightens my day.
Trey is on the next level here yo!!
-Trey is Jedi-
I thought this thing was going to peak like 12 different times. and it was perfect.
This is, and always has been, my favorite Phish jam of all time. I have the hardest time convincing any of my friends to like Phish but for the ones that I did convert, this is the jam that did the trick, hands down. Pure magic
This one is the best Trey jam ever but collectively as a band it has to be Went Gin
I have tried to convert so many over the years, but with very little success, you either get it, or you dont. I just feel bad for those that dont, because it truly is one of lifes greatest pleasures, at least i feel.
@@benringenberg2394yep. My dad's been trying to get my mom for 25 years. Some people will just have to find meaning elsewhere I suppose.
this was my FIRST SHOW!
Good god this might be the greatest things that has ever gone into my ears
Imagine the tears shed during this jam
Dude phish is the only band that made me laugh so hard I cried and cry so hard I laughed. That's how I describe them to the newcomers and in the darkers.
Strings shred, tears shed
Imagine the tears that have been shed from those that missed this!!!!✌
I cry every time I hear it
And now
I still get a kick out of the documentary when Trey rags on The Band hanging it up after 13 years because the road was "too much for them." 35 years later and we are not only getting constant touring but also decent new music from the boys. Glad I wont't have to say I missed out on this band like I missed out on the Dead (mainly b/c i was in 8th grade in '95...)
robbertson is a primadonna the band didnt do half as many shows per year.
but in those days bands who often play two shows per night
early show/ late show . insane .
And now 40 years!
Without a doubt favorite Hood. Cant imagine what is was like in person
I can tell you, brother. It was fucking amazing!!!
Favorite version of my favorite Phish tune. Simply perfection.
Heaven. I'm sure it was what heaven feels like.
Best Hood ever.
dudes this is dope
If anyone can seriously sit through this Hood and not be touched or moved, check their pulse, they're probably dead!!!!💥💥🌟🌟✌
Long time Head. First time I've heard this. It's downright rapturous! Thank you Mr Minor
Great place to start if you're new to Phish! Listen to the Reba from this same show, Divided Sky from 10/31/94, Split Open and Melt from 11/6/98, just to name a few.
@@thetruth34o910/31/94 🐐 Reba
That guitar is just crying at the end... amazing!
If it wasn't for Trey Anastasio, this sound would not exist. What a beautifully sublime, otherworldly solo. You know you've encountered a creative genius when you forget that it's just four guys playing in a rock band.
I believe this is the soundtrack that plays while you're slowly ascending into heaven.
And Fish. Can't forget the most unique, special, supremely talented, music, fluid, octopussy drummer ever/namesake of the band.
I just listened to the solo on half speed. Trey is a genius. That's all I can say.
@@FreePercussion What a brilliant idea 3, 2, 1...and go
@@ecp6490 well said, fish is the mvp
Absolutely, legends all four, but Trey is the daddy. When Phish is on point the four instruments form one beautiful music making machine.
I don't know how a mere human being is able to coax this sound from a guitar. Otherworldly!
This solo has the power to bring complete world peace.
This and 12/6/96 are my all time favorites, these guys have made such an amazing imprint with their music in my life. I feel so blessed and grateful for everyone and everything. Be well everyone and share in the groove :) Peace ✌
This is what I imagine heaven is like
Yes....wow 👏...Heaven is amazing
93 in Boulder Colorado was the time of my life.
this brings tears to my eyes every single time. I still haven't seen a Hood that can compare to this.
12:00 heart explodes
11/22/97 is pretty emotional. More serene than this this but 15 minute mark rivals this natural MDMA explosion
Sweet Jesus is this gorgeous....thank you boys!
Tears of joy. Dam I love you Phish.
11/22/97 very emotional banger too
You can feel good...good....good about Hood!
my go to hood. really cant beat it
I was there! Just bragging. I was hassled by a Mass. state trooper after the show for holding a beer in public. He ordered me to pour it out, while 1000 others around me were also holding a beer. I gleefully wished him a happy new year while pouring it out, and retreated to my hotel room where a cooler full of beer was waiting for us. Among other things ;)
love the Auld Lang Syne tease
When I was first getting into Phish about 12 yrs ago, a friend lent me this show and the disc that this was on was just written "GOOD HOOD" on it. Damn was he right. Hooked from this point on...
Just... no words :)
Oh yeah. THE best one ever.
Transcendence. Musical masterpiece. I've listened to it many times. It always brings an emotional response
Nice one - a lost gem for sure. 1st time I saw them & couldn't believe the hurricane of sound they created. WBCN (Boston) broadcast the concert the next morning - New Year's Day - which we taped & played until the cassette wore out.
LTMfromVero You're wicked fortunate to have been there! I'm jealous!
Us too!
It's like when someone dies and there is that deep sadness. But then you think of all of the good times and you can feel them watching down on you in all of their glory. Like a God basking in the light of transcendence.
What a beautifully specific comment, I know exactly what you mean, fav hood
Yes. It's truly a powerful piece of music. This guy gets it.
TheFoam91
I feel you my friend. I feel wicked blessed to have this recording to listen to over and over again. I was there, 4th row, Pageside, at this show when I was 17. Everytime I check in and listen to to this, it consistently is moving, in a way that is difficult to put in to words. It was tough to explain back then, when I was 17, as it is now when I'm 44, but it is the coolest F*ing thing there is. And I'm really happy to hear that it moves you to tears Everytime, because that seems about right my man. Yea, that seems about right. God, is there anything better than Phish back at this time? Nope. Next question.
its like im on the verge of 5 different emotions but they all balance each other out cause thats what phish does to you yah know?....they're magical
I've been here sooo many times!☺☺☺
My first Phish nye show!☮️💚⭕️

This needs to be released
the AUD on relisten is actually really good... will have to suffice for now
My first Phish NYE - never to be missed!!!

I was at this show. One of the best shows of all time as well. Look at the setlist. A dream run in Worcester
Great pictures with great sound. Thanks.
Top notch mind meltation!
The end of this song saved my buddy's life. He was on the darkside of a bad trip, and they brought him out of it.
Is he still alive?
Was played a few days before I was born. Loving it
This is THE BEST hood ever.. IMO
7-1-95 Is my personal favorite, but its a no wrong situation. It was my first show and that hood moved me then and still makes the hair on my arms stand up now!
This is a very good hood. Any other suggestions? Years ago when Napster was a thing and it was just brand new there was a version labeled “dankest Harry hood ever” and it really was the “dankest” version I’ve ever heard.
To this day I haven’t heard that hood again or been able to figure out what the data was. I think it was in the 94-96 range, I’m leaning 96.
Anyone old enough to remember bootlegging everything on Napster and remember that label? Any other hoods that are unarguably In the top 4 or 5 of all time? I think if I got a list of top hoods of all time that I’d figure it out.
It had the greatest peak of any hood I’ve ever heard. Trey shreds this more but I remember that hood being just absolutely beautiful and the build up and peak blending perfectly.

I feel pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good about Hood.
This is the only hood that just blows every other hood out of the water there is some good ones out there but this is probably the best one I’ve listened to it everyday and it’s just beautiful the audio quality is amazing as well
Blowing out of the water is pretty strong. I mean 11/22/97 esp at 15 min mark, ALO, 7/1/95 they’re my top 4
This one is definitely the dirtiest and greatest guitar solo tho
Holy shit. My heart is racing after that. Incredible.
if you're not smiling you're doing it wrong
You know what they say.
A Hood a day keeps the blues away =)
Mad love to all the phamily out there!
I compare all Hoods to this one!!!!!❤❤
Trey thanks for being beyond human and blessing this earth with your otherworldly talent!
This is just madness
11min, trey starts really killing it, like he always does.
I read this and thought, "ah, I must be there already." I checked, and I was only 9 minutes in. . .
I listen to this track just about every morning before anyone else gets to work. At least, I have this. So, thank you.
my first of 200 shows. no wonder I got hooked.
wow... i can only imagine.
dammit i promised myself i wouldn't cry this time :')
Was there for this :) My 1st show actually
Epic
Wow
This was my 3rd Phish show, saw them twice before in 1992(Stowe,VT & Boston Garden) and 3 since( NYE 1994, Portland,ME 1999, and Fenway 2019).
Holy hell, this absolutely floored me. One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. This should legitimately be in the conversation for greatest guitar solo of all time and to think, it's freaking improvised! Somehow underrated, Trey should be consensus all time Top 5 guitarist.
I've been writing a Phish blog to curate some of their best work and have literally listened to hundreds of the greatest Phish jams over the last couple weeks and nothing hit me like this. I'm sure I've heard this one before, but not with the better ear for music I have now and not with my new good headphones. After so many years this band can still astonish you.
No doubt...this song is an absolute masterpiece of a live performance. Squirming Coil off the same show(album) is also amazing. Sends emotion right through you.
Damn it's jams like this that make me feel trey is the best one to ever string em up
Robert you may be right. All guitarists have their moments of glory but some have a lifetime
Robert Trey, Hendrix, Mayer, Garcia,Prince...greatness that keeps on giving, comes with lots of talent, practice and love
@@gagaface26 Good point! And they all have their own style.
@@gagaface26 left out SRV. But I do like this list.
@@ChrististKing Yeah it was a kind of ill thought out list, hadn't listened to a large variety of music until this year
1:30 -- Odd Couple tease!
5:52 -- Auld Lang Syne tease!
I've seen 356 shows, but not this one.I flew to Greece on 12/31/93 for a term abroad, and most certainly should have flown out on 1/1/94 out of Logan Airport! I consider 12/31/93 the best Phish show ever.
Omfgggg!! YES!!
Man these guys were good... Miss the good ole days :)
Saw them at Red Rocks in Denver. They rock
GREAT miracle riff at 11:55, and the miracle riff REPRISE at 12:15! yeah!! bring back the MIRACLE RIFF, trey!
Trey firing rainbows out the F-Holes for sure. Spray n pray!
Those notes!!! He used to do them often in the Hood peak, (specifically my favorite version Sugarbush '94).. Just something about them drives me to tears everytime!
Woah.
Thank you Mr. Miner!
Greatest thing I have ever seen and heard live. Blows my mind that it was over 30 years ago.
I've been looking for this version of Hood on and off for a while and this is it! I heard this version at the Spectrum sometime in the early 90's and the genius was how they take you on a journey from the "hook" chord stanza through a gradually progressing instrumental. Ten minutes later you're wondering, "wait - what song are we even listening to again?" and that's right when they bring back in hints of the key chords that remind you and finally they launch fully back into it and close it out.
phenomenal mr. miner jam
best show i have ever seen, period!
Thanks for the upload. My personal fav is 11/22/97
Thankyou! Holy Lord...
dudes this is dope
5:50 unrelenting tingles
This is absolutely beautiful. Wow! I would love to hear a soundboard version of this. The AUD is still so sick but there has to be a soundboard somewhere……
This is the sbd dawg
