Dallas. What is your opinion on using a thinner oil such as a 5 w40 instead of a straight 40 or even a 10:40 or 10:30 for the large Journal 455 engine. I remember seeing a report what I ran a NAPA store some years ago from Castrol saying that a lot of the newer Vehicles we're going to dinner coils for quicker lubrication on Startup. This would seem correct in that on a large Journal engine the oil would feed through faster and lubricate better on cold start up. Would like to know your opinion on this. As I know most guys using thicker oil in the Buick because of the style of pump gears
That's exactly what I did to my 85 Suburban with the 455 Buick. I run Rotella T6 5w40 just for the purpose for easier and quicker lubrication upon startup. GM calls for 10w30 in all Buick engines and factory tolerances are fairly tight. I prefer lighter oils unless its a heavy load engine, I.E. Tractor, Truck, Tow Rig.
You can run a double roller timing chain from roll master but they are expensive. I’ve had good luck with Edelbrock single rollers without any issues. As far as a cam goes, what’s the purpose of the engine, type of car, gearing and your compression ratio?
Why don't you call the guys at TA Performance, Karl and talk to them about cams? TA isn't for Trans Ams, they are Buick guys. I loved every cam I got from them. Double roller was no issue on my own Buick 1974 block 455 with factory timing cover or aftermarket from TA but I liked the TA unit a lot. They also offer adjusatble oil pumps with thrust plates. You can also get their timing cover and oil pump setup all in one package, Highly receommend and I don't even own a Buick any more. Buick 455s oil poorly. make sure you get the psi you need.
Hi, just watch your video on four hundred four thirty and four fifty five timing covers.Would you happen to have more for sale
I can build you one. I have not put any up for sale.
i've got a TA Bu350 timing cover if you'd like to look at it.

Thinner oils. Not dinner coils. Hahaha

seem to be very simple but important mods, wonder why the gm techs didn't do that from the factory
Took too much time and time is money... probably the simplest answer.
"GM techs" had nothing to do with it
TA Performance 455 Timing Covers roughly $550.00 is absurd.
