  • The Give an "F" Friday 430 is back and ready to roar on the start stand for camshaft break in. After months of waiting for a cam core to come in... I took matters into my own hands and found a HUGE camshaft and had it reground into something I can use on the street with this 430.

      If you still have access to he title, you should be able to go to the DMV and get the VIN# and use the internet to find the old car.

    I have a 53 Ford 2 door sedan with a 455 four-speed I surprised a lot of people with it. By far this is the best Buick Channel on RUclips.

    The cam specs sounds closer to the TA290-94H with a better ramp rate, should be good for a full size Wildcat. I have a TA284-88 in my 70 Wildcat, which works great.

    I used to have American Cam in Glendora, CA regrind my 350 & 455 cams. Won a lot of races with no problems, ever. They were very cost effective too.

    Years ago i ran a Poston GS113a that had a ton of exhaust duration to make up for the crap port. In a almost stock rebuilt 455 in my 73 Riviera, under 9:1 but higher than stock compression. Had a really mean lope and my riv ran 13.0 1/4. 2.92 posi, built th400, LS6 factory rebuilt stall, that motor with a B4B and 800 carter. I later added a 150 shot. Got in the 12's. Still had ac, cruise control, and all the options.

    I had really good success with a now obsolete Crane Cams H266-2-12 hydraulic cam back in the '80s. My '72 LeSabre (8.5:1) 455 needed a little increase in performance but retaining the A/C and good vacuum for accessories. It had 216/228*@.050" with .456/.484" lift on a 112*LSA and pulled 16" vacuum hot and idled at 700rpm with a slight lope. Was a strong runner with duals, turbo mufflers and a Q-jet. With a stock TH400 and 2.56 gears, I remember it shifted to second at 60mph (indicated) holding it in manual low, shifting to drive with it nailed, and at 110mph it went to 3rd automatically. Crane is now defunct, but I had Oregon cams grind me a 218/230*@.050" with similar lift on a 113*LSA to try and recreate this daily driver combo for a low comp 455 someday.

    I have a .040 over 455 now, custom ground Howards cam, Ported Stage 1 heads but switching to Edelbrock, SP1, headers. Still just a street build. Runs power breaks no problem, pulls like a freight train. Dyno 560HP, 595ft. See what it does with the ported Edelbrock heads.

    COMP Cam does have an Xtreme cam with 230 duration @ .050s. SORT OF an enhanced Stage 2 cam with less spread between the .050s and advertised duration.

    Reminds me of a guy in Sydney, Australia, who had an awesome Citroën Light 15. Citroën , French for Lemon 🍋.
    It had a chrome trunk badge on it from Nice, France. Mr "Nice F". Sometimes, getting an F, ain't such a 🍋 table experience...

      Not an F like a grade, but like GM did not give an EFF when building it. Now this 430 gives lots of EFF's. I took a frozen 430 from a lump to a running engine, that's some lemonade... hope ya enjoy it!

    I watched this! I'll take one if you wrap it up in a '68-'69 Skylark - and I'm brave enough to go for just a TH350, or maybe an overdrive transmission, (200R4?)

    Rule of thumb. Camshaft should barely fit through the bearings. Even if you have to slightly tap it through

    Camshaft is a broomstick dude? Need 600 up split duration Camshaft. Probably the 663. Lift.

    I have my heads off my block and noticed there was a rod with a flat piece of metal on the cooling passage of the head. On one head its tight and the other is loose. Do you know what it does and if it should be tight?

    • @mr.roddersneighborhood2740
      @mr.roddersneighborhood2740  2 года назад +1

      That is actually nothing for your head any longer. Think of it like framing for concrete, once it’s poured and set… the frames can go away. This is framing for the mold during casting. If it’s loose, pull it out. If you have to get tools to remove it, just leave it in there. It’s not an issue in there and will not hurt anything.
