"Makes Energy Search finally a good card to have" It's deck thinner. Just as good as a regular energy but things your deck twice as much and ups your ratios and odds for pulling better cards that actually do stuff instead of just an energy card. Sure you have to shuffle the deck which resets the odds but there is a lot of searching and shuffling and card draw in this game so thinning out energies while not gimping yourself on total amount of energies

The pokemon tcg videogame is my most favourite game in terms of how fun it is to me. I completed it dozens of times, but there were no challenge videos on it until yours. Thank you! You inspired me to do runs with pikachu/raichu only, and mew and mewtwo only. I had so much fun with them! Jungle pikachu and raichu are beasts. The last one was extremely difficult, as only mewtwo's blastburn attack can deal damage to colourless cards, and its only 10 due to resistances. I even bought a physical copy of a translated version of Here Comes Team Rocket, because your videos gave me the idea to look for roms that have been put on cartridges. Thank you! Is it really that strange for psychic to be weak against itself in this game? Ghost is under the same energy, and because psychics were only able to be countered, reliably, by other psychic types it really fits as far as I am concerned. That is just my opinion though.
I mean that’s true. But Gen 1 had 3 total ghost Pokémon so I find it strange that the whole type is dictated by that. But yeah, psychic needed SOME sort of weakness.

Iirc the order is: Lightning Water Science Get PC booster packs and reset until you have Scyther Rock Fighting Psychic Fire Dewgong centered deck for Courtney Dugtrio centered for Steve Raichu centered for Jack Dewgong/Raichu for Rod and Ronald Don't quote me on it; I haven't run this game since 2017 lmao
I always thought similarly, but it could also just be a design decision that was an attempt to keep the Psychic type in check. Otherwise it wouldn't have a weakness, and that would just be ridiculous. But making it weak to itself and giving colorless Pokemon a resistance to it, it almost ensures that Psychic would not ever be a rampant problem. Not that psychic cards seem overtuned necessarily, but it's possible that they knew how strong Psychic was in the games and specifically made an effort to not repeat that in the card game. Just speculation, but it doesn't seem that unreasonable.
With Mysterious Fossils being a constant presence, doing Team Fossil might be fun. Not sure what to do about needing some actual Basic Pokemon in the deck though. I don't think there's any that search out Trainer cards or anything. On the other hand, I guess TCG2 forced gimmicks might be less obnoxious if that was also done.

I'm trying to come up with challenge ideas to try (or that would make interesting videos). A stall only deck would be interesting, but the video of that would take SO LONG to make... A game where you don't use any normal attacks could be cool. Or even harder, where you don't deal direct damage with any attacks, but that would probably be just a poison run. Maybe a playthrough where you use only the resisted Pokemon at each club, or where you only use Pokemon weak to the main type of each club. Maybe a playthrough where after each card pack is earned you have to swap out a card in your deck with a new one you just acquired, but you can only beat each other trainer once, so you have a limited number of upgrades. A Wigglytuff deck would probably be pretty easy but still fun.
I have made a mill deck in this game that I never lost with. Basically revolved around abusing mr mime, chansey, and alakazam while also using imposter oak and gambler to make sure I didn't deck out. fun to play but man it takes forever to get all those cards

That's true, although in the TCG prior to the introduction of darkness the ghost-type psychic cards didn't have a weakness (and, funnily enough, Psychic was actually immune to Ghost in Gen I)

This deck reminds me of what I built in the game on my first playthrough and yeah I was not surprised how easy it was. Started with squirtle and friends where I quickly learned the might of dewgong, then took out basically everything except it. Shit load of trainer cards to make a hyper rush Rain Dance with Blastoise and suddenly Blastoise Dewgong and Articuno have max water energy all in a single turn or two and my deck is down to 10 cards after going hard on 2- oaks just to fill my.hand with water energies. It's honestly a blast to get rain dance off and just pour water over everyone but even ifnyou dont get it off Dewgong and Articuno jisy do ludicrous amounts of damage so easy with the paralysis chance too it is OP OP

i agree magmar and horsea are awful to go against. however i'd also like to put Grimer from tcg2 in the running for most annoying card. one grass to poison two to paralyze. so fucking annoyyyyyyyyyyyyyying
Poison and paralysis is a horrendous combo to deal with. Also confusion is super annoying
