Also, some seeds sold for consumption at the grocery store, dried peas, beans, etc are cheap, and will often germinate.

Couple thoughts: If you leave the cut tray for a couple of weeks, it will grow to nice baby greens. I do this a lot if I have the room. There are seeds that do grow right away, or plants that were too small to be cut. These will grow nice into baby greens.
My other thought is why turn the soil in compost bin? I have worked out a method that you can replant with microgreens and reuse the soil right away. To do it, cut your microgreens as usual, then come back and cut the tray even with the soil level. Then put a thin layer of seed starter and replant. I have trays that last for months this way. I also put worms in my trays which makes it all work as the worms keep the soil good for several months.
    Anyway, nice video

    • @papablueshirt

@@cathleencaratan3373 I agree, I was talking more about the expense of using new soil every time, which can get expensive. I reused the soil in one of my trays for over 2 years as an experiment. I had worms in the trays, so that helped me to keep using it. Eventually it turned into all castings. : )

you can also wait a bit longer till the true leaves are bigger, then harvest those leaves leaving the rest of the plant to regrow more to harvest multiple times.

I did that one winter using Kratky method. I got a half gallon glass jug from Bed, Bath and Beyond which just happened to have the same diameter as my little hydroponic netpots. I wrapped it with foil to block light, filled with hydro solution, fill the net pot with little Growstones, planted some lettuce seeds and just watered a couple of days at first to get it all going. After that, I did nothing but cut gorgeous little leaves for the salad. No more watering or playing with pH meters or anything. That one-time planting kept me with lettuce for months.

Kavin, really nice explanation on growing Microgreens. I have some really simple questions and would appreciate if you could give some guidelines. I am planning to grow them in my basement and I live in upstate New York. The question is Does your blackout dome has any holes in it? How about air circulation inside the dome? Should I be worry about air circulation while they are inside the dome and when they will be transferred under the lights? How often did you need to water the plants when they are inside the black out dome and when you transfer them outside under grow lights?
    Thanks again..

First time viewer and new subscriber. I use a razor sharp fish filet knife, works well, but I like the idea of grass shears and will try one. You are dead on with your dressing. Good EVO, red wine vinegar and parmesan cheese, pinch of salt and twist of pepper. really come together. For a dinner salad try any one or a combination of goat cheese, avocado and tomato. Cooked shrimp or smoked salmon also go great. You can also try slices of seared steak or roasted chicken. I have also enjoyed ravioli and microgreens.
