First time watching, some thought so far. First, thanks for uploading these, I'm a fan of the comics and couldn't find this series before this. I like the art a lot, it feels like there's fewer flickering things and coloring errors noticeable compared to other cartoons I watched, like Transformers and Ghostbusters. Also the animation has effort put into it, despite the low framerate they really try to keep it real with fighting moves and things like idle hand movements while talking. Seems like the Defenders training room could consist only of treadmills, since 90% of their strategy is "run!" Ming amuses me. I like how he never likes to get his hands dirty. I think so far he's only been hit twice, once by the pantom stinging his hand with a lil' skull thing, once he got wrapped by Lothar's rope I think. Just waiting for him to get punched, sooner or later. Mandrake is a dear. Funny how they made him posh and british, I mean he sure looks the part, even if he's not like that in the comics. I love that he's just like "hello old chap" "interrupting the opera? How uncouth, they have no breeding at all" *twirls cane*. His two-colored shirt confuses me though, I think it's supposed to be a waistcoat, just drawn badly. I appreciate that they didn't make the child character the one who always gets everyone in trouble, that's a convenient plot device that too many shows fall for, and end up making the target just dislikable. I wish Mandrake did a little more parenting though, I'd have no idea where the kid comes from if I hadn't read somewhere that he's someone he adopted. The only moment where he acts like a father is in episode 2. Even here, they could have made him the one to carry Kshin out! Hoping for a little more Mandrake taking responsability in the future. Also, kinda hoping for some of Mandrake's villains/backstory to show up, 70 episodes of ice robots might get really boring.
I just checked wikipedia because I found myself asking "wait who the heck is Kshin anyway? All the other kids are the protagonists' children, but he's just... there" and apparently they don't explain that he's Mandrake's adopted son until like 60 episodes in. That's pretty amazing. In the 80's, my guess is the sort of kids who were watching this just kind of knew who he was because kids read newspaper comics so much more in those days.
i was 5 yers old in 1986 and this EP freaked me out as a kid .. still gives me goosebumps 🤣
no matter wt the age we were at, it really takes us deep old days. 🔥💯
