I think this song was released in 1989 the original band who sang this song is sakada band. I'm not sure about it but it's not their original song.

"Sayang" means "regretful" so "Sayang na sayang" means "Really regretful". I used to try (keyword = try) to sing this song in the karaoke bar every time I feel down or really feeling bad over missed opportunities, wrong decisions etc. All Filipinos know this song.
I remember Regine sang with Aegis and she had so much fun. Anyway, some would add an Aegis playlist when people are already too drunk to care and everyone sings (screams) along and have fun

Filipino Tip again: The word sayang may be closely translated as a waste. At times when a word repeats in Filipino, it's to emphasize the connotation. So Sayang na sayang is something like, "It is such a waste" but in this context, regret also makes sense.
Oh and I acknowledge that part of the trouble of speaking Filipino is the inflections and emphasis on certain syllables. The emphasis in SAYANG is actually in the first syllable not second. SAyang not saYANG.. hope that's clear enough xD
"Sayang" is feeling bad about, or regret for, something that has been wasted...such as years or time of being together, the love, the memories etc

Note that we were talking abt "sayang" as in "sayang na sayang" (regretting too much, or "what a waste!"); "SAya" meanwhile means skirt, as in "baro't saya" (traditional filipino women's blouse & skirt) -->so sayang pula, is red skirt. Lastly, "saYA" is happiness. Hope this helps.
Trivia: Sayang is actually not originally tagalog word. It's a Malay borrowed word that basically means the same as we use it. 🙂

Aegis first became famous in Japan but not here in the Philippines. The band realized that, and wondered why so. They decided to come home and introduced themselves. Their songs became instant hits and the band got so popular.
When I was a kid, I used to hear their songs in Perya or Local Festival Rides/Theme Park. Like i can't even sing but as a kid im thinking how do u even sing that song even if u can sing?😂. This band is a family band, maybe has been singing since they were being conceived by their parents who might be singers as well too.
