    Historical fiction is my fav genre. I love stories that are set in the ancient era. My fav books are set in ancient Egypt and ancient Israel! I'm writing this comment bc you asked for non western recommendations, so here are some:
    Ancient Israel:
    Chronicles of the Kings series by Lynn Austin
    The Restoration Chronicles series by Lynn Austin (situated in Babylon and Israel).
    Out From Egypt by Connilyn Cossette
    Cities of Refuge series by Connilyn Cossette
    The Silent Years series by Angela Hunt (book 1 is stationed in Egypt and Italy. The rest of the series is in Israel.)
    The Empress of Rome series by Kate Quinn (situated in Rome and Israel.)
    Ancient Egypt:
    Egyptian Royals series by Michelle Moran
    The Lost Pharaoh Chronicles series by Lauren Lee Merewether (also has a Prequel and sequel series which I highly recommend reading as well.)
    Sphinx's Princess by Esther Friesner
    Novel of Cleopatra's Daughter series by Stephanie Dray (mainly based in Rome but incorporates Egyptian history.)
    Daughter of the Gods by Stephanie Thornton
    BONUS:
    Ancient Persia (Iran):
    Harvest of Rubies by Tessa Afshar
    Esther by Angela Hunt

      It's probably been mentioned before, but Margaret Geore wrote The Autobiography of Henry VIII, Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles and also Elizabeth I. There is also one about Helen of Troy and one about Mary Magdelan... I've seen Ms George be part of a Writer's Conference here in Madison, WI; we both have continued living here for decades.

    Alexandre Dumas wrote great historical novels. The D’Artagnan Romances and Queen Margot are especially good.
    Romala by George Eliot is interesting, set in Renaissance Florence.
    Dorothy Dunnett is great in the Lymond Chronicles, set in Elizabethan times. The House of Nicollo series is again in Medici Florence.
    The Hangman’s Daughter is an interesting mystery series set in Germany after the Thirty Years War.
    A good recent one is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, set in WW2 Germany and France.
    And if you are up for some rewarding work, give Mason & Dixon a try, a novel about the surveyors who established the MasonDixon line, by Thomas Pynchon. Or Gravity’s Rainbow, another WW2 novel which I count as historical since Pynchon was only 8 when the war ended.

    I love the book Snowflower and the Secret Fan by: Lisa See, based in 19th century China. Such a good book!!! Also, the book called The Red Tent by: Anita Diamant. The Wolf Hall trilogy is a very good start. They're sometimes a little dense with all the different characters to keep track of, if you don't have a lot of knowledge about Tudor England (wikipedia helps), but it's masterfully written and Hillary Mantel has done her homework, and stays very truthful to actual history while still being able to tell an engaging story.

    The Hussite Trilogy by Andrzej Sapkwoski (author of Witcher) is a historical fantasy series of novels. It consists of three books: The Tower of Fools, Warriors of God and Light Perpetual. It is set in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown (mostly Silesia and Bohemia) during the Hussite Wars (1419-1434). This is a darn good book, where witches fly on broomsticks and other fantastic creatures appear. I don't know how it reads in English, but in the original it is written in great language. It really draws you in. It is funny, intriguing and clever. And it has romance in it.

    You have to read books by Henryk Sienkiewicz. "Quo vadis?" is placed in ancient Rome, times of Neron. A beautiful historical romance about the early Christian era. The book has been screened many times. It is an absolute world canon!
    Set in the realities of the 15th century, the excellent "The Knights of the Cross" or "The Teutonic Knights".
    The 17th century epic marvel of "The Trilogy", which is a passionate series consisting of three parts: "With Fire and Sword," "The Deluge," and "Sir Michael ". Beautiful, adventurous, romantic - these are some of the best historical novels. A lover of historical novels simply must know them - he will not regret it.

    I am confused about the link for the historical quill bookclub. The link does not bring me to the bookclub instead it brings me to the niche reader website. Can you send the link that leads directly to the signing up page. Thanks

    • @thebookbelle
      @thebookbelle  11 месяцев назад

      Yes sorry about that! The company have now rebranded so the link is valid - the History Quill Book Club is now the Niche Reader ☺️

    • @chenkeith7272
      @chenkeith7272 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the reply. The link brings me to the niche reader but it is a mailing list for authors and not readers. There is no sign up page for readers. I am looking for historical fiction books of a type of genre. Hope you can help with the sign up page. Thanks

    You Ad link (history quill book club) doesn't work. Upon registering, I was supposed to either create of get a password. What could go wrong, right? Well, since I got none, I went along the "lost my password" lane, and once I entered my email, they say I don't exist, even though they welcomed me vua email 2 seconds earlier. Thought you might wanna know.

    My favourite non-white hist fic is "Empress Orchid" by Anchee Min.
    Guy Gavriel Kay's "Under Heaven" is also good but, obviously, written by a white person.
    One that's on my shelf but I haven't read it yet is "Iron Widow" by Xiran Jay Zhao is historical fantasy, I believe.

    I'm really curious! Why are you a huge fan of Richard III? I mean no offense by this, genuinely curious!

    • @thebookbelle
      @thebookbelle  2 года назад +1

      Mainly because I think a lot of the negative historical commentary on him is due to Tudor propaganda (ie. Shakespeare's Richard III!) but also I find his background and his marriage to Anne Neville so interesting! Thanks for watching :)
