I have looked at several similar videos and they are all essentially the same. Every time you change setting on the amp for each demo each guitar sounds like a different guitar. Then when you play another guitar with different amp settings and songs, again, they all sound different . Someone who is trying to determine the differences is left totally confused. Its like comparing cars and taking one on a test track another one on the road and another on gravel. What would be far more useful (if less entertaining maybe) would be to play the same thing on each guitar with the same amp settings. So we can hear what character each guitar has.
Thanks man! Telecasters are great guitars, for sure. I mostly play a strat with EMGs nowadays because the groups that I perform with want that sound. Telecasters are right there in the middle, sound spectrum-wise. So versatile.. Thanks for watching!
I hear this a lot about Teles. I can't seem to reconcile it though. I love my Tele but my LP's bring something to the table I can't pull out of the Tele. Something an old bandmate of mine says about Tele's, that they are very 'honest', almost unforgivingly so. In that you have to be well rehearsed and dead on to play them live.
@@elenaostapenko5031 That 'Message in a Bottle' riff was the thing that grabbed my attention as a young teenager back in 1978 and got me interested in guitar.
The most versatile guitar is a Stratocaster with an S1 switch, which you can now buy in the Mexican range, so that you can get the pick ups on 'in series' , which turns them into very decent sounding humbuckers. Of course this is my opinion.
I love the three of them. The LesPaul Is my first guitar. She was my childhood sweetheart. Then I fell in love with the Strat, my guitar for almost 20 years, but then i met the Tele, married her, she’s my guitar keeps.
I have a Les Paul, Tele, and Strat, but also an SG. I can't live without my SG, it's probably the most versatile guitar I've ever played. People take one look at them and assume they're a metal or rock guitar, but you'd be surprised at how beautiful an SG sounds clean 😇
True mannn, Sean Angus Watson's clean SG tone will give u an eargasm. SG clean tones are so underrated or I'd rather say under appreciated. You need to check out Sean Angus Watson if you haven't.
All those guitars were made way before metal ever existed. Of course, metal was "born" out of the SG; but only because Toni Iommi's Stratocaster needed repair on its worst day. Nevertheless, the first SG superstar, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, was a clean player.
Wow thanks a lot, man. I really appreciate it.. Glad you're digging it, and it's nice to know that someone likes what I'm doing. Right on.. Thanks again!
I love the three of them. The LesPaul Is my first guitar. She was my childhood sweetheart. Then I fell in love with the Strat, my guitar for almost 20 years, but then i met the Tele, married her, she’s my guitar for keeps.
Ive never heard of you or your channel. I was looking for a tele les paul comparison. Wasnt interested much in a strat comparison. The jimmy page pic was enough for me to watch. Im 4 minutes in to the video and I cant believe what Im watching. I literally play those exact Zeppelin songs as finger warm ups. I feel like im watching myself 60 seconds after plugging my guitar in. Im a fan now.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words. I wish I could redo every riff in this video, but your nice compliment made me feel better about them lol. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Of the three, which one is the best to learn on. I have not purchased one yet and I want to get what’s best for learning. Something keeps drawing me back to a tele. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t have the biggest hands.
Greg Lou Hey man, if the tele is calling you, then go for it! To me, a Les Paul is a little bit harder to play. Strats are great.. Honestly, the tele will be a good fit, especially if you like the look of it.
Best one to learn on is the one that fits closest to the kind of music you want to play. Which guitars are your favorite artists using? Yeah most of them will own all 3, but which are their main ones?
Just wanted to chime in here, but I've got a *Strat* , a *Les Paul* , and a *Telecaster Plus* . They were unique because they had a humbucker in the bridge and that guitar really rocks! It has no paint, just a wooden finish. An amazing guitar!
I don't like the lack of balance on a Les Paul. They are so body-heavy that you can't easily hold it level when playing without a strap. I bought a 335 instead. I added a humbucker to my G&L S-500 to give it more punch. I bought a 63 Vintage II Tele recently with the mahogany body to get a mellower tone. The body is heavy on the Tele but it is balanced better than a LP. I enjoyed listening to your great playing.
I’ve never tried them, but I heard they’re great! I made this video almost 3 years ago, but since then, I started using Lollar pickups exclusively in every electric.
I know this is trivial but I've never liked the look of the tele headstock. Something about it just makes me uncomfortable. I guess it looks like an underdeveloped strat headstock? Like a premature headstock fetus that needed another couple months in the womb. But personally I think the tone has a lot to do with the wood used. Gibby's have mahogany bodies AND have a set neck which together produce that rich, warm tone that they're known for. Fenders are brighter because of the ash or alder and have a bolt-on neck so it deson't resonate the same way a Gibson does. However, I just bought the Fender Special Edition Custom Tele FMT HH and it's the closest to a Gibson as Fender is ever likely to get. Mahogany body, mahogany set neck, dual humbucker pickups, and a contoured flame maple top. It's Gibson soul in a Fender body. I half suspect Fender did this just to spite Gibson. Kinda giving them the middle finger for all the copyright infringements they keep handing Fender
I understand what your saying, about the tele headstock. That a good description. It does look like an undeveloped Strat headstock. I used to HATE Teles. I thought they were ugly. BUT now, I love them, and the headstock too because it’s part of the Tele look. I mainly play acoustic, but I bought two teles, am American and a Squire. They play so good, they’re so balanced to hold. The Squire played as good as my 1000.00 tele, which I sold because I just don’t like screwing with amps, so I play an older American Ovation. Plays like an electric kind of, but no amp needed. Anyway love the balanced feel of a tele, and they just look like no bullshit guitars. I love my cheap Squire Tele…It has a great neck, for 130.00 on sale too ! You know what a tele looks like, and the headstock plays a role in the look. They look like a gun to me. They just look like they’re all business, and I love single coils. I like t sound of a Strat, but they don’t look as cool as a telecaster.
Nice comparison. Not that it's a competition but I thought the strat and telecaster sound the best. I guess there is a clarity between the distorted chords and on the les paul notes seem to mush together. It's beautiful though, looks like a Bonamassa and those look classic. Did you ever see Page play ramble on on it might get loud> His hands almost move like he's painting with the guitar, the sound so clean almost single coil-ish but rough at the same time. I'd do just about anything to be able play that smooth and for that tone
taggle waggle Thanks man! You know what I should have done? I didn't EQ the amp to each guitar. I think the settings on the amp worked for the tele and the strat, but it didn't work as well with the Les Paul's humbuckers. Oh yeah, I've seen that part of It Might Get Loud.. That scene is my favorite. The way he plays is so majestic. There's so many little details in his playing. I think we could all buy a nice guitar, amplifier, etc.. but at the end of the day, a lot of the sound is in our hands. Page has always had an amazing touch on the guitar.. one of my all time favorites. Thanks for watching!
Daniel Rettberg Peter omg thank you, I’ve been trying to figure out what song that was for months, the guitar intro was stuck in my head but, I couldn’t think of the words lmao
Complete beginner - 52 years old - thought sod it, have a Bonamassa Lazuras, Player Plus Strat and a Tele Ultra ....... why have one???? Holy Grail achieved and they ALL sound fab but the Tele is my baby
Thanks man! It's a Mexican tele from 2014. I replaced the white pickguard with a pearloid pickguard, and I put Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounds in the neck and bridge positions. I also replaced the stock tuners with Fender locking tuners, and then I replaced the metal tuning keys with pearloid keys. Thanks for watching!
Played all 3 but to me the strat feel way ahead of its time, the body itself feels like a contemporary art piece from the 80’s that was made to curve itself to ones body ergonomics to perfection, also the neck pick up in clean is pure Holy Grail, and the tones and chords sound withbdisyortion always come out clean and pure in any mix ( this is the same for the tele)… the 2 LP and tele are fine but they feel extremely outdated in terms on body contours by ay least 200 years. The LP feels extremely uncomfortable and heavy at times, while the neck in teles and strat can feel like pure butter and also some weight as little as 7lbs…. I do love certain power chords, clean tones and solos in the LPI’ll give it that tho!
The Les Paul, the melodic rail road tie. I own a Les Paul Traditional, a Mod Shop Tele w/Texas Specials PUPs and an American Standard Strat. The necks and playing are totally different on the Fenders. The Les Paul is, well Gibson. More like an acoustic fingerboard. I love all of them. But the sound is different STOCK. Guitar players change out PUPs and make their own sound board from their guitars. I read where Jimi Page used a Tele for the recording of Led Zep's first album.
I only play/own a Tele and LP's, primarily through vintage spec Marshall's. I am adverse to owning a Strat, but will play a Strat when offered. I don't know why save for maybe it's the one guitar none of my main heroes played. I realize this is closed minded and Strats do sound wonderful. What I am gunning for next is an SG, because AC/DC. Surprised I've waited for so long on that.
It's a 2013 Les Paul Studio 60s Tribute, I think.. I bought it from a friend of mine. It has an Eric Johnson humbucker in the neck position, and a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary in the bridge position. Hope this helps.. Thanks for watching!
I have been playing a Les Paul Deluxe for over 40 years and never needed to look elsewhere, the 60 cycle buzz of those single coils would really piss me off ! I mean, why buy a single coiled guitar only to take the dopey thing to bits to replace the stupid pick-ups ! 🤔
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. Really? Wow, I didn't know that lol. I played that riff because Keith played a tele, obviously. Thanks for the info.

You know what? When the video was edited, I realized later that I played Ten Years Gone on a Les Paul by accident lol. Wasn't it recorded on a telecaster with a bigsby? I might have to do some research and find out.
It sounds fine on a LP, I play it that way myself (although I don't have a Strat). It was recorded on a white Strat though: www.led-zeppelin.org/studio-and-live-gear/80-reference/studio-and-live-gear/jimmy-page-gear/1008-white-fender-stratocaster
Oh yeah, definitely. That's one of the reasons why I like it. I'm not a big whammy bar/tremolo guy.. A tele's bridge is really solid and locked down. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! I love my tele. My Les Paul has an Eric Johnson (EJ Custom) humbucker in the neck position, and a DiMarzio 36th Anniversary humbucker in the bridge position. While I'm at it, my tele has Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounds in the neck and bridge. My strat is all stock/factory pickups.
Hmmm well, Les Pauls are known for having wider necks, and Fender guitars have different sizes. I have 2 strats, and 1 of them has a very tiny neck. If you go to a music store, try out a few different strats and teles, and you'll see how a lot of them have different neck sizes. Thanks for watching!
I'd suggest a squire. considered an entry level guitar, but they're quality has gotten much better over the years and is nothing to sneeze at; especially their classic vibe and customs like, my favorite, the Simon Neil. experiment with a few; you may like a v shape neck instead of the more common c shape neck.
fezzes I’d agree, my made in Mexico strat sounded and felt just as good as the American made. It’s definitely worth saving bit more for. You can get them around 600 , I talked the shop for mine down to 500.
I love teles and les pauls, not much of a strat guy. But the les paul wins for me, i love how easy is to change the pickups and it's really useful for me to have volume knobs and tone knobs for each pickup, that way i can change from a clean to a dirty sound really fast. But overall, all three of them are just great guitars.
1:34 is Keith Richards dead? P sure when the world ends there's only going to be a plastic child's doll and Keith Richards left amongst the ashes broo.
I too end up playing to fast too many of the time. Have a Strat and Paul also. My 3rd guitar is a acou/elect 12 string. Just a little different kinda thing.
The scale of the guitars matter too. 24.75" for the Gibson vs 25.5" for Fender.
I have looked at several similar videos and they are all essentially the same. Every time you change setting on the amp for each demo each guitar sounds like a different guitar. Then when you play another guitar with different amp settings and songs, again, they all sound different . Someone who is trying to determine the differences is left totally confused. Thanks man! I appreciate that.. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Page used a tele/esquire on Led Zeppelin I, and then used a Les Paul on later albums.
maybe like 8 songs
mostly the 1st zep album and the lead to stairway is a dynamite sounding telecaster. 90% of everything else was a a Les Paul.
4:01 is that Ramble On (Led Zep II)
We are talking about recording studio trickery versus the raw live Jimmy Page.

Heard the same about Joe Walsh.its just heresy. I personally like the Fenders and ignore the Gibson's, too much mud.

Thanks! You did great covers!
First guitar was a strat strat for life
Any guitar video is certainly better Zeppelin in it. Not that it doesn't sound great on a Les Paul, but Ten Years Gone was recorded on a strat.
You know what? When the video was edited, I realized later that I played Ten Years Gone on a Les Paul by accident lol. Wasn't it recorded on a telecaster with a bigsby? I might have to do some research and find out.
But it was performed on a Les Paul...so, its all good
It sounds fine on a LP, I play it that way myself (although I don't have a Strat).
It was recorded on a white Strat though: www.led-zeppelin.org/studio-and-live-gear/80-reference/studio-and-live-gear/jimmy-page-gear/1008-white-fender-stratocaster
haha. I've play that song hundreds of times and heard the recording more times than I've played it and never knew that.... good stuff
Alex Bueno no it was actually performed and recorded on a telecaster, he plays a brown telecaster when playing it live
thinking about buying a tele. is tele fixed bridge type guitar like les paul?
Oh yeah, definitely. That's one of the reasons why I like it. I'm not a big whammy bar/tremolo guy.. A tele's bridge is really solid and locked down. Thanks for watching!
ok :) i like my les paul but for some unknown reason the tele is calling me out. btw what pickups do you have on your les paul?
Aight thanks for your response.Gonna save some money for a Fender mim Tele
Hell yeah, dude!
wHat would you refer for sliGHtly small Hands
wHicH one would be better
Hmmm well, Les Pauls are known for having wider necks, and Fender guitars have different sizes. I have 2 strats, and 1 of them has a very tiny neck. If you go to a music store, try out a few different strats and teles, and you'll see how a lot of them have different neck sizes. Thanks for watching!
tHanks a lot
very Helpful
I'd suggest a squire. considered an entry level guitar, but they're quality has gotten much better over the years and is nothing to sneeze at; especially their classic vibe and customs like, my favorite, the Simon Neil. experiment with a few; you may like a v shape neck instead of the more common c shape neck.
William Jeff Buckley Jr. dont buy a squire, if you cant afford a made in america buy a made in mexico
fezzes I’d agree, my made in Mexico strat sounded and felt just as good as the American made. It’s definitely worth saving bit more for. You can get them around 600 , I talked the shop for mine down to 500.
ain't the Axe its the Axeman.
you play great!
Thanks man! I really appreciate your kind words.
Anyone know the riff at 9:43 ?
Jimmy Ciaston Beast of Burden by The Rolling Stones. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the quick reply and video, subscribed !
Jimmy Ciaston Thanks man 🤘🏻 You’re welcome.
It's a shame that Gibson has fallen in recent years
Hate strats, love Les Paul's and tele's.
Gibson jazz and grunge
Riff at 10:19?
Communication Breakdown by Led Zeppelin.. Thanks for watching!
Owned all three. The Strat plays and sounds the best imo.
STRAT PLUS 4 LIFE 😎
I would throw an ES 335 on that pile.
2:28 For a moment i thought he is playing 'Ghost - He is'.
Do you know the name of the song he was playing?
@@deusherbert-noel2424 Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills and Far Away
Cleans of a tele is unmatchable ♥️ #deydreams
In the bridge position ,yes, but Strats have several superb clean positions.
nice nice
Since when Jon Bernthal started playing guitar? dayum
You need glasses.
@@TheSectric i dont
Sectric my thoughts exactly!!
Strat can play anythings 💯😋
1:34 is Keith Richards dead? P sure when the world ends there's only going to be a plastic child's doll and Keith Richards left amongst the ashes broo.
wozzlepop lmao we need a copy of that guy’s DNA.. the human species will need it one day.
You actually look a bit like John Frusciante.
if you show this guitarrist to hendrix, what you think he gona think ? hahahhaha a neat guitarrist
telecaster is king. les paul is one trick pony. I have a les paul and a telecaster.
Telecaster forever
Tele all the way
I am the les paul man
I really loved the review. My only issue was you played a lot of songs too fast...... and you play so well I wanted to hear them normal speed LOL
Hahaha thanks man! Yeah, I have a habit of doing that lol.. My bad. Thanks for watching!
Daniel Rettberg Peter I subbed.
I am 36 and decided to finally learn how to play the guitar. Going to pick one out for fathers day this year :)
Nice! That's great to hear! I'm glad you're learning.. Thanks for watching!
I too end up playing to fast too many of the time. Have a Strat and Paul also. My 3rd guitar is a acou/elect 12 string. Just a little different kinda thing.
What's the song at 2:28?
Déus Herbert-Noel hey man, it’s Over The Hills and Far Away by Led Zeppelin.
@@DanielRettberg Thanks man! 👍
