Dr. Strange wouldn't have given the Time Stone away wouldn't it have been for him knowing that that would be the future where they win. Dr.Strange was contending with millions of possibilities, not any one sequence of events:
-He had to give the time stone so that Ancient One would trust Banner,
-He had to lose on Titan, so that he would be able to bring Spider-Man and the others to Earth.
-He had to be cryptic with Tony, to give him just enough hope that everything would be saved, but not have him thinking about or fearing death.
-He had to do things in such a way that Wong would understand and be ready on the day to bring as many warriors as possible to help fight. (MOM showed that Wong can see what Strange sees and vice versa)
-The rat always frees Scott, but Dr.Strange had to ensure that they let Thanos win so that he didn't get mad and destroy Earth. Which also means:
-He had to let Peter Quill have his little flip out, or they would have taken the Gauntlet, Thanos would have snapped out, taken it back and then probably destroyed the Earth.
It's a singular movie, that had to convey a lot with a specific run time. And they couldn't harp on every single possibility of Strange's choices. So I think enough information is given that fans can speculate and come up with their own answers based off of the given info.

Therefore her mentality without seeing how the avengers beat Thanos is to never give up the time stone under any circumstances...Strange giving up the time stone willingly allows her to understand that she needs to give up the stone without seeing or understanding the reason why, just that it's the correct call because he does the same thing that leads to this point.

If Dr. Strange told tony that it was his duty to fulfill the sacrifice, he knew Tony would reject the proposal since Thanos knew it would be an inevitable loss for them. Tony's death and sacrifice was not expected by Thanos which was the ONE possiblity that made victory certain. Thanos actually respected Tony Stark and actually wouldn't have expected him to sacrifice himself to win. Regarding how Steve Rogers/Captain America returned the six Infinity Stones at the conclusion of the _Endgame_ film, there’s an online FanFiction story entitled “The Infinity Stones Return: Captain America’s Final Adventure.” This story is written in the form of a heavily detailed plot-summary for an eight-episode mini-series. ¶
The first episode takes place before Captain America (hereafter called “Cap” for short) begins his journey, and shows Professor Hulk rebuilding the time machine and Scott Lang/Antman volunteering for the initial test run. This involves a return-trip to Clint Barton’s pre-snap home to put back the baseball glove that was taken during the original test-run. Afterward, Doctor Strange explains why the stones have been placed in the briefcase and reveals that the Tesseract, Orb, and Sceptre have been shrunken down to fit in Cap’s pockets and will be re-enlarged after he arrives in the past to re-contain their respective stones at the proper time. ¶
In the second episode, Cap visits the Ancient One in 2012 prior to the arrival of his earlier self in New York. There, she uses the combined power of the six stones in the briefcase to cast future-dated spells that will make the 2012-2014 timelines reset themselves once the heisted stones have been returned to their proper places. Afterwards, she transports to the roof of the New York sanctum where she gives Hulk the original version of the Time Stone after first putting on a performance-act of initial resistance and surprise to ensure he understands the importance of returning the stones afterward. She then reclaims the returned-version from Cap’s briefcase. ¶
In the third episode, the Ancient One continues to assist Cap by helping him recapture Loki and returning him into SHIELD custody along with the stolen 2012-Tesseract (after future-Tony and Scott have fled the scene of course). Afterwards, the re-enlarged Sceptre re-containing the Mind Stone is given back to the Hydra goons, thus triggering the first timeline-reboot spell which erases everyone’s memory of the wayward events. However, the final scene then reveals that since Loki misused the Space Stone’s power in the wayward timeline, a branch-timeline was nevertheless still created, thus requiring the TVA to intervene. ¶
In the fourth episode, Cap shoots forward to 2013 where he re-teams with the Ancient One for the journey to Asgard. There, they work together to neutralize Heimdall before putting the Reality Stone/Aether back into Jane Foster’s body and returning the enchanted hammer to a comically confused Thor. Afterward, the timeline is then likewise reset to erase everyone’s memories. ¶
The fifth episode has Cap shooting forward again to 2014 where he and the Ancient One return the re-enlarged Orb containing the Power Stone back to the temple on Morag after first making a brief but necessary side-trip to delay Korath’s arrival and prevent his interference. The sixth episode then has Cap being sent to Vormir where, in order to return the Soul Stone, he must first contend with a temporarily freed Red Skull and a temporarily resurrected Natasha Romanoff. ¶
The start of the seventh episode then reveals that, with the two stones from 2014 returned, the timeline has also now been reset so that everyone’s memories have been erased and that exact duplicate/replacement versions of Thanos, Gamora, and Nebula have been created to take the place of their original counterparts who jumped forward to 2023. ¶
Before travelling back to 1970 and then further back to 1946 though, Cap first reveals to the Ancient One that Doctor Strange had previously placed a charmed spell over Cap’s aura so that no one in the past would be able to recognize who he really is unless he wants them to. Hence, Peggy would be able to see Cap in his true form when he returns to her whereas everyone else would see him as somebody different. This would then enable him to easily change his name and assume the identity of a former G.I. whose unit was rescued by Captain America during the war as per the reference in the _Winter Soldier_ film. This also then explains why the younger Cap didn't recognize his older self at Peggy's funeral during the _Civil War_ movie. ¶
In the last part of this seventh episode, Cap returns to 1970 and puts the re-enlarged Tesseract containing the Space Stone back in the vault, then proceeds up to Hank Pym’s lab to put back the four replenished vials of Pym Particles. Upon arriving in the lab however, he is unexpectedly intercepted by the TVA. The final episode then has Cap being recruited by the TVA to fight the Red Guardian in 1984 before being allowed to return to 1946 and live happily ever after. ¶
Hope you enjoy reading the story in full on the FanFiction website. Cheers!

My theory is.. among the million possibilities that Strange saw was the BIRTH of the Celestial being (Eternals). Remember that on eternal it is stated that the birth was delayed since billions of people were gone. Strange knew they would not stand a chance to go against the celestial after they suffered many casualties fighting Thanos. Hence, giving away the stone was his best choice for them to die temporarily than eternally. Again it's just a theory.

It looks like hypocrisy to the unwise, only. They fail to notice she's wise enough to use that power without falling to corruption, and how exceptional that is. That, along with many other feats, means she's also wise enough to decide who gets to use it.

      Ok
      HERE ME OUT
      ITS COMPLICATED
      According to this guy
Strange saw 14 mil possibilities and Avengers lost
Because in all possibilities thanos won and to reverse the snap Avengers travelled back and hulk asked ancient one and she didn't give the time stone.
      EXCEPT THIS REALITY OR POSSIBILITY
      WHERE SHE GIVES
SHE BLAMES HERSELF FOR ALL THE POSSIBILITIES STRANGE SAW WHERE AVENGERS LOSE COMPLETELY
BECAUSE TO REVERSE SNAP U NEED TIME STONE AS WELL

The reason Dr. Strange gave Thanos the Time Stone is because Thanos was about to kill Stark/IronMan. Strange KNEW IronMan is the key element in the only scenario where Thanos is defeated. With IronMan dead Thanos would triumph, as in all the alternative futures that Strange viewed.

Well, He created the time travel and the one who snapped so He is the most important

I think he also needed to set it up so that the snap happened while Scot was in the quantum realm.

I think he also gave it to Thanos so he wouldn’t kill Tony Stark, because Tony Stark was the one who had to snap existence back in place, so if he died by Thanos the moment when it happen. 😮

When strange gave the stone away it was to spare iron man’s life, that’s because in those 14 million outcomes the one where they win iron man is still alive. He did it for a reason.

Remember Strange saw only one option. So he knew there was no way of stopping the outcome but they could reverse what happened by going back in time.
