- For the 10 year anniversary of owning my 1965 Chevy Corvair, I decided to FINALLY put together the full build episode with all of the photos and video I shot back in 2013 when my father and I built it. Sitting for over 40 years, this car was literally destined for the crusher! Full build in 25 minutes!

Sitting on this footage for TEN YEARS is so crazy, I’m not sure many people understand how hard that is to do. I’ve had the privilege of hearing you tell some of these stories in person over the years, but to finally be able to visualize them after a decade feels like I just had a weight of curiosity lifted off my shoulders.
Well edited John, so happy you finally did something with this footage!!!
The fact that you did this project with your father is something I dream of doing, you and him are going to remember this story forever. Your an inspiration man thank you for sharing this story with us keep up the good work
The cragars looked killer on that thing
Your cars have been inspiring to me over the years, I remember seeing this car in person at h2oi several years ago. RIP h2oi, I hope one day a new version of it manifests that captures the good vibes of the weekend.
This car is the reason I found you, I’ve always loved Corvairs, and Fiero’s obviously, and a corvair like this has always been a goal of mine. I somehow always forget the roof is chopped. 😂 Awesome story man and I love the Corvair.
I really appreciate that man! That was the goal, keeping the chop subtle!
I've always wanted to see more on this!!!! Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
I've been waiting for years for this video.
I finally got focused haha
That’s is one cool story , not just you building a timeless beauty but having the videos and pictures of it with your dad. That is priceless John. One day I’ll be done with my cabins in Ensenada Baja California Mexico and you will be invited over to experience the car scene in Baja with accommodations so you and your lady can experience the good ol Mexican ways.
That would be amazing!!
@@JohnLudwickit will happen just give me some time and it will happen
I can’t believe you did this episode, that is awesome , I was literally just telling my friend about the build and looking for this video , but there wasn’t one tell now 👍🏼🙌🏼💥💥
That’s crazy!! Timing was on point haha
Awesome that you have some old footage of the car. Great video
Thanks Ben! Yea I’m so glad I filmed so much of it
crazy that you own it for 10 years, that means I follow the stuff you do since 9 years. time flies... :D
Wow, that’s crazy! I appreciate it man!
@@JohnLudwick thanks John, also appreciate the massive work you put in, it was a nice having a chat with you at edelweiss customs this year. Looking forward to next year🙏🏻
YOUR air cooled collection is just Awesome!
Man that's a crazy story never realized what actually went into the car
Yea man it’s been a wild ride! Haha
Very Cool Corvair! Seeing it on IG is the reason I sought one out and built my own. All my VW buddies give me a hard time. LOL
I remember watching SoWo 2014 on RUclips when it just came out and boy oh boy that Corvair part of my inspiration for future builds. One day I'll see it in real life, but I was lucky enough to meet you and your BMW twice in OCMD and Wolfsgart.
I was born in 1965. I, too, am bagged and chopped 😢. Love your channel. I'm the guy whose sister lives in Ooltewah.
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
Had those exact bomber seats in my 55 Merc back in 2009 got em off eBay
The back story on this car is amazing. It's awesome that you captured footage and images of the build too. This channel needs to blow up soon 🤞
I really appreciate that! It’s been seriously hard work, so perhaps one of these days it will! Thank you!
This was an awesome watch dude!
Thanks Lee!
MAN, you should used the first body style roof that hangs over the back window. It would make the car look even faster!!
It’s crazy seeing the photos from h2oi, fcf, and sowo. Such a different time! My favorite cars from my first h2o was your corvair and a bagged Subaru Baja!
Glad you did this video. I recently found your page and was wondering about it. I love the off the wall builds you do
Thanks man! I appreciate that!
This thing is so sick! The subtle chop is perfect. I had a 66 with the 4 speed in high-school and i loved it. Wish i still had it! Nice work man
You nailed it!!! As a custom car builder myself that's not something I say lightly😎😎👍
It's definitely a different build, like the plate on it too, really love the bagged old Merc in some of the pics too, Rj in Oz
Thanks RJ! Yea I really miss that 1960 Mercedes W111! The first car I ever bagged.
Great video. Really enjoyed all the hardships and overcoming them. Very inspirational to get those customs rolling. Everything seems impossible until it's done.
So cool that you have all that old footage man! I built my Mustang with my father and it’s some of the best memories I have with him and something I’ll always remember and I’m sure this will be a similar thing for you as well. I wish I had some footage of it all to look back on for sure!
Of all the cars that you have this one is by far my favorite. I love vehicles that in some way show what they have gone through to become what they are. I also very much appreciate cars that show a builders ingenuity and craftsmanship, many times in the raw, to incorporate personal touches or parts to make the car functional especially when witty. This car underwent major engineering feats but it the end looks quite simple. Love the interior and the 5 spoke wheels perfectly fit the car. Can't say enough of what I like about it. Congratulations and happy anniversary to you both.
I really appreciate that, man! Thank you!
I really like this kind of videos. Same happened with the BMW build, it´s so special seeing these cars having a second life. Now that it has been 10 years sin the last top chop...what if the giveaway beetle gets the same treatment? :D
I think I’m still recuperating from that chop, I haven’t been interested in doing another one yet 😂😂😂
This is the first time I've seen your channel and I have to say, WOW !!!!!!! What a beauty!!
That is a great looking corvair. The roof chop looks so good. Awesome work bro, definitely subbed to the channel, keep up the great work.👌🔥🔥🔥
Such an awesome story about revival of this car. Dad's helping out with projects like that is a great experience. Miss seeing your unique car's driving around town. Someday, I'll have something unique to drive around town with. Here's to another 10 year's with awesome builds.
It's absolutely perfect.
I've never been a Corvair fan but
This one is a Chef's kiss perfect 🚬😎💯👍🍻🏁🏁🏁
This was such an informative video. I never knew you put that much work into the car. The relationship you have with your father is amazing, too. My father would simply say no to the idea of doing anything out of the ordinary. I actually found your channel after seeing a video of SoWo in 2014 from Krispy Media. He was the first 'car guy' I ever followed. I been following your progress in some way since 2014. 🤘🏻
What a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed this
Lovely jab at dorky Doug at the intro. 😂
😂😂
My wife and I drove to sowo 2014 just to see this car!!!
So crazy man!! Hope we can hangout again soon!
excellent story. my first classic. 63 700 coupe corvair. now i build pontiac fieros. working on number 3 now
Luv it.. had a 4 door in 76 put 13 in .. low rider spokes drove it from El Paso to San Diego in late 76 every one triped probly the first corvair low rider
This is such a sick build, and honestly my favorite. I couldn't stop staring at it when I first came across your channel. I love that you built this with your dad and that you both poured your heart and soul into it. My favorite moments were when he told you to make the cut into your roof and building the oven contraption to make the rear window. Super glad to finally see this video come to fruition!
It's cool to see it aired out without the roof chop too. It honestly looks killer both ways.
I really appreciate that man! Thank you!!
Tawp shawk mount got a chawp to get it as low as pawsable- love it. really cool build, very unique
I've read stories that one of the reasons that GM cars had high rooflines is because the men of upper management tended to be very tall, and it was considered to be a faux pas if they couldn't sit inside a car slated for production. I can see why you struggled with deciding how much to cut, but I think going with two inches was the right choice. Those unfamiliar with the Corvair might not even notice it, and those that are might take awhile to realize the top has been chopped. As I age I've come to the conclusion that going wild has it's place, but I've come to appreciate subtly modifications. Though I have to admit, I'd prefer to see a nice shiny black paint job on your Corvair. Design wise Corvairs were always ignored, but in retrospect they really are a very beautiful design. Clean, simply, classic.
This story line is absolutely amazing and such a dope car this gained my sub by the way⛽️🔥
Great video thanks inspires me back in 1975 about a 66 Corvair it was really nice shape the motor didn't run but the body was gorgeous I painted it dark navy blue and then my brain started going and a 375 horsepower 327 Chevy yep I jammed it in the Corvair I reinforce the frame made some tubing well did it in bolted up to the transaxle the front of the valve cover was even with my elbow when I sat in the driver's seat it things screamed it was a death trap but it was fun I never built a cover for the engine it's just dangerous but I didn't care I was a kid what did I know I knew how to fabricate and do stuff but safety wasn't a priority I had the car four or five years drove it everywhere and then I had to sell it I wanted a Camaro but it was fun I love corvairis they're super cool yours is wonderful thanks for the video
Wish my father would do something like this with me !
Very cool story man!
Thanks man!
I remember being in Helen in 2014 and seeing the corvair parked there never seeing one before and it was absolutely and still is mind blowing! Good job sir!
I really appreciate that man! Thank you! I’m still recuperating from that trip 😂😂😂
Good vlog. Father-son projects are the best!
Thanks Andy!
can’t wait to see it in europe 🌝
DUDE IMAGINE
Your dad is like Mac Gyver
He really is haha
She's Rad. I like the Epsilons.
As someone who chopped a '74 bug, I know the pain of figuring how to do the chop.
Totally dig that Corvair
Always wanted one to toy with, even the bathtub Vairs
Thanks man! Yea I love them!
Magnificent awesomeness...
Thank you!
Such a cool build and a great back story. 😎👍🛠
Man it looks so good with the Cragars.. but anyways thanks for sharing...
Super cool build. Lovely car!
Great proportions at the. End
Now this is the video I’ve been waiting for 🤘
Thanks man!
Great story, and such a cool build!!! I've had a '65 myself and am now wondering why I didn't slam it. :-D As someone who is more into traditional looks I loved seeing it with the five-spokes, but I also love it for you, being the way you want it.
Thanks for sharing!! Greetings from Sweden
18:44 Father Knows Best!
He does!
Great Dads are awesome, we both have them 👍
Awesome 👌👌
Top 5 favorite cars!!! The build and its story is an inspiration bro. Been following along on IG for years, it's amazing tonfind out what it took to create this work of art.
I love the license plate. lol
Awesome !!
John, fantastic episode! Seeing this in person and knowing the story it is still very incredible to see how this has been made, and that it WORKS! I am assuming this is the longest you've owned a vehicle as well? Its definitely a sweet sick car with dope Patina and an awesome Owner!!
Great
Thank you so much for sharing this info. Been debating on getting a late Corvair as a next project and this really gives me motivation.
How is the drive on the current suspension setup?
Why does it have to "lay on the ground"? 🤔
2 INCH IZN"T MUCH . BUTT WTA SWEEET L😮😅😊K . AND LOW"RRR . GRR88T LOOK 😮 !!! ... .. . BROTH"R 🤠
Awesome build. I had a 1965 Buick Riviera that had an insane chop top. It looked sinister. I miss it......
Now get it wrapped a gloss ivory and throw some gold honey comes on it 🫣
