    Meet me tonight in Atlantic City. Sounds, like fun, but alas, I'm a few decades late for those pictures. Maybe someday as I've never been. Great presentation Renee 👍👍

      Unfortunately the beauty of that city as with so many other cities has been neglected and fallen victim to crime, drugs and prostitution. Do yourself a favor and just look through the old pictures and visit there through your mind. It's much safer 😉

    So these old photographs, like those from Atlantic City in the early 1900s, hold immense historical value for several reasons. They serve as visual time capsules, offering insights into the culture, socioeconomic context, and human stories of the era. In Atlantic City, these photographs reveal the opulence of the Belle Époque, the divide between wealthy vacationers and local workers, and significant events like the construction of landmarks and the Miss America pageant. They evoke nostalgia and provide a tangible connection to the past, allowing us to discover not just the physical landscape, but also the people, culture, and stories of that time.

      They do hold so much history! I used to go to Atlantic City with family as a teenager, it was always “exciting” to walk the boardwalk & see everything. Between then & now, so much more has changed.

    A brilliant dive into the past - and, of course, into the Atlantic Ocean ! 👌Technically a little bit different this time, but I think that´s a great idea. I always wanted to visit Atlantic City but was told that it lost some of it´s previous glamour nowadays. What do you think as a Jersey lady about that, Renée ? "Meet me tonight in Atlantic City". 😉 Holiday tomorrow over here (Labor Day), so we might sleep a little bit longer. Greets from GER, U.

      The “Meet me tonight in Atlantic City” is from a Bruce Springsteen song titled “Atlantic City. It has changed tremendously even from the late 1990s & early 2000s. I can only imagine what the people of this time in the photographs would think of Atlantic City now… from the bathing suits to the buildings. Enjoy the holiday & a little extra sleep!

    Thanks for this. Really liked the music. I wonder what the folks in dresses and blazers would think walking across the beach these days! Positively scandalous :). You don't read about too many buildings or restaurants described as handsome anymore. I see the Dunlop was advertised as fireproof. Strange - we don't think about that so much these days, but so many places were advertised that way back then. Looks like the Dunlop lived up to its name if it made it to 1995. Other "fireproof" buildings did not, as you know. I won't say anymore in case you want to do a HBtP on Atlantic City Hotel fires! (A little off subject, but there was a fire under the boardwalk last week, apparently? Maybe a couple of small fires - arson? Couldn't tell from a quick look). Great piece as always! Hope you have a terrific Tuesday afternoon!

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Месяц назад +3

      I also didn’t read too much on the most recent fire there, but I heard pretty much what you stated. I remember when Seaside Heights went through Hurricane Sandy & lost so much of their boardwalk & then a fire destroyed even more shortly after. Atlantic City really does have so much history, from the buildings to the people that owned the buildings to those that visited there. On my last visit to AC about 2 years ago, it seemed to have changed so much, unfortunately a decline, over the last years. Going there as a teenager it even seemed exciting & thrilling, with all of the hotels & casinos. How things change… including the bathing suits!

    Hello Renee. I love the hats the ladies wore back then . They look so happy. I wonder if they would be just as happy today On the beach ? I know I’d rather be somewhere I could go to the beach and relax listening to the waves. I hope they had an amazing life. This was very nice. You did amazing work and brought back memories for some and a family into the future. Lovely job. Take care. I hope your week is going great. 🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🕵🏼‍♀️🫖☕️🫖☕️🫖☕️🥰🥰🥰💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

    A long time ago (1970’s) my great grandma took me and my sister to a public pool and told the girl that was working the front area that we need to rent swimsuits. We looked at grandma and said they don’t do that and she said sure they do and the girl at the counter said no we don’t rent suits. ❤️

    It is so sad how dilapidated AC is now. My Aunt who came to America in the 1940's from Norway (her family lived on a farm)decided one day that she wanted to find a rich husband so she got into her best, most beautiful dress and the only fur coat she had and worked very hard to buy on her own and went yo the boardwalk in Atlantic City with her sister. So long story short, she sees this young dapper looking gentleman and just KNEW that was him! That was her rich American husband! Well she goes up to introduce herself and when the young man opened his mouth to talk, guess what?!?!?! He had JUST as thick of a Norwegian accent as my Aunt! He was from Norway also! Well, they ended up getting married, having a wonderful family and buulding a highly successful company together that my Uncle has retired from and now his sons run the company. 😊

      I love the story of your Aunt!! How funny that she makes a new home here in America only to find someone from Norway, just hanging out on the Atlantic City boardwalk. It was meant to be! I agree, Atlantic City has changed so much, from back in the early 1900s to even what it was like in the 90s & early 2000s. A shame, really. Your Aunt’s Atlantic City love story is one that adds to the history of that town & all the memories made there!
