Genuinely, hats off to you! Your eye for organization is absolutely unmatched. I'll definitely be doing a few of these up grades to our press at the shop! If you don't mind, I will be sharing this with customers that call looking to upgrade their machine!
@Swagoffroad Absolutely, that is what I do these videos for! First off to make my life easier in the shop and to help others with ideas of how to make it easier for themselves. I’m glad you liked it!
@Swagoffroad If you have a minute or an hour is this case, check out a video of my shop and the organization tips. It has over 1.2 million views on my buddies channel. I did not have a RUclips channel at that time. ruclips.net/video/mFYJFgOIRCM/видео.html
@@OneEyeCustoms Funny enough, I'd actually seen that video and didn't realize it was you! Was excited at the time to see our Portaband Table be featured in the video. Can't thank you enough for sharing our products with your viewers!
Your brushes cracked me up. I had to go back and time my pause to read the sign. Your challenge is to keep the joke going in future videos with smaller and smaller brushes. Merry Christmas 🎄
I've seen so many modifications on this same shop press and this is the best I've seen by others on RUclips and HANDS DOWN this is the best one yet! Your video's are well thought out and explained in complete detail. By no means are they long winded. I'm a person that's wants to know how everything is done in full detail including materials. Your video's has given me some excellent idea's and how I have improved my own shop and they worked very well. Thanks Doug!
Doug, I'm amazed with the thought and creativity you put into this project. I really like the way you keep things so well organized. You have an engineering mind that's put to good practical use.
I have never used a finger break, nor could I tell you the difference between hemming die or a gooseneck die but I am in awe of the level of organization. I’m sure you could sell these for a mint to metal workers who could appreciate this
One summer I worked as a press brake operator, and the only times you would want to have the bottom V separated was for clearance on a multi-bend part. Another reason we would use separate bottoms was for multiple setups at once, like for a rectangular box you could have one 24in section, a gap, and a 6in chunk. Love seeing your videos and always finding "a better way"!
Instead of grinding off the bottom of the angle iron I milled the top of it, that way I can always get as sharp radius as possible. Luckily my G0704 could cut the stock size angle iron.
DOUG, really!!! The instructional videos you post are detailed to the max !!! And interesting to watch, no loss of thought in your sentences,,, like a, ummm, aaah , you know. Perfect, precise, Presentation! ( Love the Rosin paper wall hangers , a subliminal "stone buster" for sure !!)
The one reason for the bottom to be segmented would be for outward turned ears when bending boxes. Similar to the same reasons you might need individual widths on the top. I love how thorough you are.
Hi Doug, you are truly the guru of fabrication & organization. I always look forward to your videos. Now if I can retain the information, 😂 Merry Christmas to you and Autumn. See you in the next installment.
The whole time you were talking about shorter bends I was thinking about why couldn't you use the bottom part of the Hemming die? There's probably an obvious answer just not to me other than it's short. I definitely feel like I need this break attachment now, I just discovered it in other videos, seems like a great compromise to having another tool taking up significant floor space.
Genius! I’m like you in that I like to customize my equipment for organization and added functionality. I will be using your ideas and subscribing! Thank you.
A lot of good ideas there. Especially enjoyed the brush cleaning brush. I used 2 pieces of 1" x 2" solid bar stock with holes drilled in the end for 5/8" bolts in place of the angle iron bottom. This allows me to adjust the opening for the fingers to push through. I can adjust to a very small opening if the bend needs to be close to the edge or have a large opening for thicker metal or a more gentle bend. It will allow me to bend beyond 90°. The bars are not held in place so it requires some lining up with the fingers, but the advantages are worth it for me. Have a Merry Christmas. Look forward to more videos next year.
Absolutely brilliant Doug, really enjoy learning about all the big or little improvements you come up with! I already built up a mobile service cart last year after watching your describe yours and really love it, have added some custom touches and features with my 3D printer. Cheers from Austria! Lukas
Have you ever thought about making the press wider? Im wanting to make mine 30-36" wide for larger sheets I need to bend. Then extend the swag spring retainers out more. Theyre just returns. They arent under force while pressing. Just odd everyone does all these smart upgrades but never extend the capacity of the bender.
Great job on the press. I like to keep things organized also. My wife and some of my friends say I'm ocd. I told them they are right I'm old cranky and dangerous.
That is an impressive example of applying a little thought to a situation and making some simple adjustments that hugely improve both storage and ease of use. Well done indeed! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Take care and God Bless.
Good info. love your organizational skills. and I thought I was organized with my 200 plastic peanut canisters. You've given me lots of good ideas!! Keep up the good work~
Holy cow! I have the same HF press and i almost purchased a 3 in 1, 12 inch unit shear , roller and press. Realized that it has huge limitations and easily broken if limits are exceeded. Your video is eye opening. I plan to copy all you have done and i will have created a fantastic addition to my home shop. I have a large mill, metal lathe, metal band saw and am a certified welder. Am retired so i can't wait to start this project. You are wonderfully creative. Thanks for the ideas.
I foresee one problem with the storage of the finger brake itself. What if you need the full length of the press, as in pressing a bearing on or off an axel. Wouldn't it be a better idea to move the storage of the finger brake forward or back of the press centerline?
Lots of good idea's here. Thank you so much for sharing. I put pins in my base press plates to stay in the base cross beam. I have a 2'x2' plywood dolly for the base to roll the press around and a few milk cartons to store parts. But I like how you have bolts in the press to hold a lot of things. Thank you once again.
Outstanding!! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share all your ideas on how to improve this press and the finger brake. I will be making most of these for mine!!
A very well thought out work station, thanks for sharing Doug, some very helpful, useful and smart tips. Please keep em coming. Happy Christmas to you and your family
You need to get a patend on the upgrades you know the manufacturer is going to jump right on your idea if they don't they are crazy. Tom from Nebraska merry Christmas
The reference offered for needing 7 or 8 pieces of angle iron is FALSE! SWAG suggests using 4 pieces of 1/4" angle iron, and that is the proper amount needed. One 2-1/2" x 2-1/2,....one 2" x 2", ....one 1-1/2" x 1-1/2",....and one 1" x 1" The reference to the possibility of loosing one or more of those pieces of angle iron is a bit of a "red herring" I painted my pieces of angle iron with alternating red and white stripes. There is no mistaking what they are intended/reserved for, and are easy to see/find, wherever they may be!
Fantastic stuff. Your attention to detail on this and everything else quite frankly is truly amazing!! If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for the larger leg bases? And I see you powder coat a lot it seems. What powder coating gun/system is that you are using? Thought I might give that a shot on some car stuff instead of sending everything out. Thanks for all you do and keep it coming.
I use the Eastwood powder coat gun and most of their powders. It was a very easy process to get into and well worth doing it myself. The legs were just some left over C channel 4” wide 2” tall.
I've been wanting to pick one of these up for about a year now. In that year I've seen countless videos on how to upgrade but I really like your die setup and the way you got the fingers going on this everything in here is a class above the others. My question here is where did you get this finger dye setup and how much was it? Since watching your getting organized in the shop video I've gotten into my own shop and freed up enough space to park two more cars believe it or not. So I just want to say thank you for helping a guy get motivated and to get back out in his shop and enjoying it. You've always got such good content and I appreciate that keep up the good work look forward to the next one's.
