      It's a different violence now. A different darkside. It's still same crimes but done in a different smarter manner. Got to remember the 80's obviously didn't have the tech of survallence today. So people would just do whatever on the spot. Plus was more one on one physical and personal. Now it's violence done in mass groups/catching off gaurd or weapons. A lot of posers and people just trying to reenact/reinact criminals of the past with advance technology and different appearance.

    Whomever composed this theme is a frigging genius. This is the scariest theme I have ever heard, even after 35 years later, it creeps me out like nothing else. No horror movies, even the 1990 TFDS movie, do not scare me, but this intro ALWAYS does. Some of the episodes are utter masterpieces, so this show is way underrated.

I also would turn the channel before the ending credits came on. It still freaks me out...

    One time whenever I was a child I was asleep “Tales from the darkside” came on tv and I could hear the theme song in my sleep. I remember hearing it perfectly. After that followed a horrific nightmare. Not sure what it was but it haunted me as a child. Truly terrifying! Took me forever to even watch the show because of it. I own the show on DVD now and so it’s nostalgic every time I hear those words.

  • @Strato13

    I always felt the scariest, creepiest places where those picturesque places like what’s shown in the intro. As a kid, when we’d go cross country camping, the places that were beautiful by day, were down right creepy at night. Many a times, my cousins, brothers, and sisters would all travel in the mobile trailer, and from the comfort of our blankets, would talk about how scary the country side of America was.

    • @ScreamingMoon
      @ScreamingMoon 8 месяцев назад +3

      The dark emergy on this road is immense, especially at night. I suspect that is why it was chosen to film the intro. A friend and I have discussed our might travels on this road for over 20 years. Linn run, near Ligonier, PA.

    • @Strato13
      @Strato13 8 месяцев назад

    *_This intro is art, and captures a deeply unsettling and sinister energy._* _With the limited editing tools available at the time, they nailed it…_
    _The grass, the bridge at __00:10__ are somehow disturbing._
    _- The factory scene at __00:25__ has always been draining to watch. That specific scene, and the way it’s shot captures utter exhaustion and confusion. Almost as if you are dehydrated and overheated; and you cannot find help. Like you’ve been walking in the heat for hours, and your mind is spinning._
    _At __*_00:39_* _we’re reminded that we live in our colorful world. Then the frame flips to surprisingly clear and colorful scene._

    Ah, pre-Internet entertainment at its creepiest! As a kid from The Bronx growing up during the 80's and 90's, this was hands down #1A on all time scariest TV openings. #1B? Why, Tales from The Crypt, of course! I put them in that order because Darkside used to air on WPIX Ch. 11 in NYC back then. So I could always tune in, where as Crypt came along just as my neighborhood got cable service. My family was able to afford cable service, a luxury younger generations laugh at now. But I was privileged to have watched both series during their original runs! 🌎🇵🇷😎

    In the 90s, SciFi had TFTD re-runs from 11pm to midnight, EST. I rented a high-ranch in a wooded area around a lake. The lower level had double sliding glass doors and the windows were long, almost floor to ceiling - of course, there were no blinds on either. The series itself wasn't scary, but the opening and closing sequence always got me, especially at that place in time.

    Man lives in a sunlit world of what he believes to be reality.
    But there is unseen by most, an underworld.
    A place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit.
    A DarkSide!

      The actual episodes aren't even scary! Only a little tiny bit scary, it's just the intro and closing themes that are VERY scary. Imagine if you heard this on TV when you are only 5 years old all alone in the house!

    It didn't help that this show came on WPIX 11 on weekends very late on Saturday nights. Usually like 1130P or 12A. I remember waking up hearing it play as my Mom watched it in the living room. Let's just say I wouldn't move out of bed until daylight came the next day.

    I used to get so pumped when I was little & I'd hear this intro! "Oh, boy! Tales from the Dark Side is on!" & I'd park my little self in front of the TV. This was when I was really little so I was at the mercy of what my parents watched a lot, before I had a TV. When I'd hear this intro, I'd come running. Now, on the opposite end of the TV theme song spectrum was M.A.S.H.. I couldn't stand that damn show & my parents loved it. Whenever I'd hear that do, do, do, do- do, do, do, do & I'd look up & see that freakin helicopter- aaaarrggghh!!! 😆

    I remember watching this very video late one night in my living room while everyone else was out. The lights were off and I was appreciating just how eerie the theme is, until our damned old ass tv cracked, and scared the life out of me. I didn't realize they did that until recently, so I just got the hell out of that room lol.
