I’m living in Raleigh NC, so I have to travel to find smallies, but, I fished Kentucky Lake since I was a kid, and my brother has a house on the lake, and I have had some incredible days and a few tournaments that smallies were the prize, my largest is a 6lb6oz smallie that won my a tourney on Kentucky Lake... Super podcast. Gussy is the best. I have learned more from this podcast than I have learned from hours and hours from other RUclipss. Gussy also has a great personality. I have forwarded this podcast to other fishing friends that I have an expect we will be catching more smallies in the future.
I think the hair jig imitates cat fish fry perfectly. Catfish fry is black looking and it coincides with the time of year those smallmouth are shallow.
Thease are great shows but i always feel that Travis is just getting the goods out of them for himself :) but they do spill the goods usually. Great stuff Travis.

I'm so glad I caught this as I'm just venturing out to learn how to catch some hair jig fish here on one of my smallie lakes. I guess he answered the question on rod selection, that u didn't have time to answer for me. I've been considering that choice, all $600 of it! Really nice job on the interviewer's end!
I already know I’m going to love this series Gussy is right it’s a Genius idea! I’m very curious now as well as each guest seems to specialize in different techniques and strengths and weaknesses. Jeff Gustafson is a very genuine and great angler aswell as a good dude so it was nice seeing him on the podcast look forward to more!!!
