You're right Alberto. I met Stevie in 88 during his UK tour. I'd been playing Scuttle Buttin up until then with my band. Now back then there was no RUclips and no video footage available in the UK of him playing it. I learned it purely by listening to it. When I met him, second day of the UK tour I showed him how I played it, with bends, although slides were involved too. That night, at Manchester Apollo, I was at the front, as I had a photo pass, and Stevie played it my way at the stop after the break and winked at me. .... So the answer is he played it both ways, but as time went on it was predominantly slides instead of bends. 😎
Thanks Alberto! I always thought it sounded like bends on the record but as you’ve pointed out, nearly every live version has him using slides. Thanks for clearing this up. Great video 👍🏻

That’s an incredible testimony, thank you so much for this confirmation!
Tx for this great analytical work
My first thought was that for this riff, sliding the notes is easier, faster, less effort, and more efficient than bending.
Thank you for the quote, I was there but I don't remember slide or bends, but my ears always told me he used both!
Was the Keyboard so loud in the audience too?
@@albertolombardimusic don't know!
Impeccabile analisi di stile e tecnica! Sempre il migliore Alberto!
Grazie Patrizio ciao!
Alberto, I Love your breakdown of this song! The very first song I heard from SRV was ‘Texas Flood’, I was hooked! Nice job, my friend! 👍🎸✌️😎
Thanks David, yes that's a great one too!
Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.
💛🎸
Ciao Alberto! You REALLY like that song!!! The song may have come to him as a warm-up while tuning(?). Happy New Year!!! . . . (Emojis are back ☺)
Well it's so iconic.. and I got too many comments about bendings vs slides.. 😂
Happy new year!
Hello Great one
You’r the best
Cheers man thank you 😊
Listen, rewind, and again and again with devotion 😍
My dear 💛🎸
great work for great revelation!!! congrats for your methodology to find the truth
Thanks Andrea🎸🎸
Bending near the nut is way harder too. So big time likely to reduce strain.
Thanks Alberto! I always thought it sounded like bends on the record but as you’ve pointed out, nearly every live version has him using slides.
Thanks for clearing this up.
Great video 👍🏻
Glad it helped, I’ve always been looking for a clear answer 🎸
