Thankyou for info,,for me never tearing down a engine with no compression ,,this gave me confidence to repair mine,,,12 hp bs,, 1999 Murray rear engine rider,,Thankyou
I went to repair a B&S Mower for a friend today. No Compression, and spitting flames back through the Carb. I determined the problem as being an Inlet Valve Issue. With the Cylinder Head removed, the problem was clear. It was the Intake Valve Seat. Really??? This shouldn't happen at all, if the valve seat was slightly spherical (on the cross-section Outside Diameter), and then the Manufacturer used a tool to "spin over" sufficient of the aluminium which would guarantee that the valve seats cannot simply 'fall out'. The worst part here, is that the Mower (and engine) were all in 'as new' condition. You would honestly think that B&S would learn something from the type of problems which are prevalent here, and consider a redesign. I purchased a Honda Mower for reasons just like this. Sorry to say this, but the Honda Mower is totally reliable. I did a quick-fix repair exactly like you! I hope that it lasts a couple of years.
Watch Donyboy23's video on this. You don't beat down on the valve and seat. You will foul up the sealing area. REMOVE the valve. Clean and install the seat. Press the metal towards the seat. Install valve and check clearance.
It depends on how bad the blow by is. Your rings could also be stuck from carbon. On engines like this that don't really get revved like a car engine does, they can really get alot of carbon build up.
Not a keyboard warrior was looking for a real solution to a head dripping valve seats, would you do this repair in a vehicle your wife is going to drive daily?
Oh boy the confidence in your fix is mind blowingly horrible. You could have at least moved the valve out of the way so you dont notch the valve like you did.... Heres a good idea lets saturate the internet with crappy jerry rig videos and waste precious time(which is the real currency of the world). Class action lawsuit should be filed for garbage like this being allow to be posted
I am glad to inform you that this video is coming up on 5 years old now and that engine is still running and running well. This fix costed absolutely nothing and any other fix would have costed more than the whole set up is worth.

Thank you. What you describe is basically what I do. I didn't remove it and clean it but I did move the head material towards the seat.
Thank you good stuff
