The ignorance of Noir is staggering, but its not there fault. Its the fault of the writer. Don't get me wrong the story was excellent... till the end. The writer forgot that it is known that this process has a 70% fail rate, known by the applicants presumably before they start this process. Did the protagonist forget this? Did there "instincts" take over and all they could see was red? Opportunity? Did greed win in there heart(s? because alien) and mind? Greed didn't work out to well for humanities the first contact species, now did it? Its knows for certain it would take half the military might of the alliance to beat the human forces... of 100 years ago. And now? The guess is they cant win alone.
Also why don't the humans know? Its established that humans would go to great lengths to prevent war so being the bogyman is fine, Noir even mentions that but is pissed about it. It just doesn't make sense. It takes a sacrifice humanity makes and hollows it out. The mind reader tech (not really a mind reader) shows that if the protagonist lives then it would almost certainly mean war (which humans want to prevent at almost any cost), and there race is one of he strongest so humanity would be needed for the fight, if for any other reason then to show that the protag was "lying" and that the humans do indeed have the sharpest teeth.
I'm no writer(that much must be obvious!), but if it were me... I would have Noir watching. Maybe remotely. Maybe one room over. Have them with other members maybe, some or all, but alone is fine. And have her CRY! A tear or two, or out right BAWLING! Perhaps more tasteful for it to be somewhere in between. SHOW the moral/emotional sacrifice we make, maybe have some other members be saddened as wall, but make sure it hurts us the most, even more then there friend/friendly acquaintance who was trying to help bring them in to the highest council.
I don't know. I didn't wright it, I didn't even read it. I did enjoy 95% of it. 20 min. 12 sec. was great, one hell of a story. What a shame the last 1 min. 30 sec. would lead to this screed. For me its like Lost, or Game of Thrones, the end ruined the rest of the story for me... for ME. Hopefully not for you.
I'm sorry for wasting your time.

I have similar thoughts, but also enjoy the story as a whole.
I disagree about the humans though. My issue is with the humans at the end seeming offended at the situation when we would absolutely understand the requirements of keeping such a secret. Since they are aware of the aliens using them as the boogeyman, they should also be aware that some would need to be silenced. Perhaps it's just the one spy being naïve, but I didn't care for it. Personally, I think killing some people to keep the galaxy at peace is at least understandable, if not ideal, but especially when it is those that want to end the peace for their own benefit. I certainly wouldn't call the interviewer a monster.

What about their resolve and resilience... I hate when this troupe is over used... How about explaining it rather than just stating

Actually a fairly good story. But I wonder how these xenos manage to avoid demographic collapse, considering they all seem to. Be they/thems.
