There was that Live action version of Sailor Moon a while back. Which was probably the closest thing we got to a renewel of this type of series. Though sadly it didn't perform well. Didn't help most of the performances in it were a bit wooden.

You get what you can take! Definitely stay away from Cutie Honey: Tears. That movie sucked!

Das 4 "Garotas Mágicas Estrangeiras" do saudoso Ishinomori, de longe a PaiPai foi a que me atraiu mais e logo de cara e me encorajou a dar uma chance. Embora o episódio seja bem fraquinho, pelo menos tem enredo consistente e, na simplicidade, passa confiança, ainda mais com a linda jovem, na época, Natsuki Ozawa (que eu não conhecia até aqui) bem caracterizada e de semblante forte. No mais, bem que o grande Toshihiko Egashira poderia tê-la escolhido ao invés da Poltrine (Patrine para os brasileiros), ainda mais por não ser longo, já que, de qualquer forma, ele teria dificuldade de trabalhar uma série não tão "marketável" e que atinge um público diferente do que ele estava acostumado na época (pelo menos haveria as chances dos marmanjos de plantão gostarem e, com sorte, as garotas, que estavam conhecendo Sailor Moon, poderiam se simpatizar com o drama da protagonista).
Geralmente a distribuidora da Manchete escolhia a serie mais próxima da época para passar e no caso foi a Patrine, a serie da Paipai acabou antes da hora pelas polêmicas da atriz com 17 anos engravidar do seu empresario e pedir demissão, a serie ficou muito curta e com certeza não ia atender os padrões semanais do Brasil na época. E hoje a atriz também é famosa por fazer filmes adultos.
Anybody else find it kind of crazy that back in the 80s and Early 90s they were always putting their actors into real mortal danger in Japan, and they rarely used stunt people except for the monsters, or characters in masks? I'm watching a lot of these shows where they are throwing their actors into actual fires. And, it is insane how unsafe that is.

This looks older than the 1980s. That film stock is very -- worn and faded. It looks a decade older than it is. Like a lot of Japanese series, the audio quality is also iffy. I don't know why it is the audio is so bad on many Japanese TV series. Other than that, seems like a nice, innocent show. I second the notion that this has better entertainment value than Sailor Moon so far!

The lead actress was probably around 16 years old when they made this series. Most of these girls in shows like this were idols (singers AND actresses), had a career for a few years, then retired and went onto other things. She probably did other TV series and movies but this likely (whether she appreciates it or not) the thing she's best known for! That's generally the way it happens with most child stars. They get typecast so early it's hard to break the public's first image of them. It happened with Shirley Temple and the The Brady Bunch!

I watched the first two eps and I love this! The characters are so full of personality! It's funny, fun and cheerful entertainment.
