Thanks so much for this very helpful video. It finally gave me the push to upgrade my TrackPad and CPU with the parts I'd ordered off eBay way back in Feb 2020 :)
One thing I did that might help others is on a piece of A4 paper I sketched roughly the layout of the T440p and where each screw comes from. Then I sellotaped the screw to the paper as I removed each one. I found that easier than mixing up the various screws in a pot.
I found the ribbon cables a bit fiddly. Maybe having a zoomed in close-up video of those parts would have helped but I got there eventually.
Having prise tools/plectrums/spudgers (the sort you get in iFixit kits) and a magnetised screwdriver helped too.
You might want to install some rubber feet to protect your screen if you do the upgrade to a 3 button clicky TrackPad.

Great video, I was able to disassemble and install the new trackpad within minutes following the guide. A well presented video that helped me achieve the task at hand with ease. Thank you

Great job presenting this strip down. I liked how you anticipated actual counterintuitions that I actually fell victim to, and provided the answers.
Also crap yeah Manjaro! I used Manjaro to back-install Arch (with SwayWM) it is blindingly fast! Boss, what cool stuff have you been doing with your t440p and Manjaro?

lol i feel like your the only person who also hates the normal thinkpad trackpad, the t440 one is way more satisfying. thanks for the guide though, ive used mine long enough that the sticker over it is wearing off from use and was starting to ignore my taps

Clear... except for the 4? screws (location and length?). Could you insert a photo, circled locations please?
Would make this better than most IMHO

I'm trying to decide if I should replace my trackpad, what did you hate about the new trackpad that made you want to switch back to the original?
Was there a lenovo trackpad with physical buttons that you liked better, or did you discover you just don't like lenovo's 3 button physical trackpad?

curious, how did TrackPoint use factor in? My motivation is primarily to use the HW buttons with the trackpoint

For the longest time I've had a Lenovo Thinkpad T440, but I recently got a T440P and I've noticed that the trackpad no longer lets me zoom in or scroll by using two fingers at once. Is there a problem with my trackpad or did the T440P remove this feature?

@@HowNoahSeesIt turns out it actually was an issue with the drivers, everything’s working now! Also now that I’m on winter break from college, I decided to finally tackle replacing my trackpad with the better one. To my shagrin however a single stripper screw is stopping me from removing the front cover where the trackpad is being held in place. Unlike every other screw this one located rightmost under the battery stripped super easily, and seems to be screwed in pretty strongly. I attempted to go forward with the swap but gave up after I saw how difficult (or impossible) it would be to perform the swap with the front cover still hanging on to the laptop.
For lack of better words, am I screwed? (Pun not intended lol) Is there any other way to swap the trackpads or do I have to get that screw removed somehow

I know you switched back to the original trackpad but any issues with the replacement when you had it on like with the right click?

Were you able to get Linux to boot? I was unable to change boot order from main drive first?

Thanks for this incredibly useful video. Pisses me off that Lenovo went from simple designs to HIDDEN KEYBOARD SCREWS! WTF! Also, changing the trackpad would be easier if the connector was NOT HIDDEN UNDERNEATH THE KEYBOARD REQUIRING ITS REMOVAL. Lenovo, you can do better than this. your T series laptops used to much more servicable.

I was wondering, how smoothly does your trackpoint work? Mine has a bad stutter issue, replacing the keyboard didn't fix it, and I suspect the stock touchpad maybe interfering with it somehow.

@@HowNoahSeesIt Thanks for replying, if you don't mind me asking one more question. Is there a difference in tracking precision or feel with the new touchpad compared to the stock one? Mine doesn't detect micromovements making me think it's touchpad related.

@@HowNoahSeesIt My second comment was about the touchPAD, but you did answer my question, so thanks. I agree the stock one is better, I actually think it's one of the best ones I've ever used because it doesn't use that garbage divingboard mechanism. I don't understand how someone can use a divingboard touchpad and like it, lol.
