My sister is special needs. She was born with cerebral palsy and has the mental capacity at 40 of a 9-10 year old. Our parents passed away tragically in car accident with a DUI driver 4 mos ago. So my sister is now living with me and is my responsibility. I accepted this without even thinking twice. My sister is my sister and my only sibling. I will love her, care for her and be her protector until the last breath leaves my body. ❤❤❤❤❤
God be with you all. Keep your head up and know that our God is a loving God.

Greatest song ever written, and recorded. After loosing my wife of 31 years to cancer, I would sit in the room where she slept alone for two years, listen to this song, and cry. It was the most wrenching and emotional time of my life, and one that I will never forget. One can move on, but the memories remain forever.

As a cancer survivor I know what you mean. I could not stand the thought of my kids without a dad and my broken wife. It made me fight like hell. I’m one of the lucky ones. I still listen to this song with the same emotion as I did back in the 90’s.
May you find happiness again someday

I met the love of my life when I was 15, she was 14. We eventually married and had two children. I heard this song for the first time early in our marriage and it moved me so much I considered it the anthem for our marriage, "our song". After 25 years of marriage, my wife fell in love with a woman and unilaterally filed for divorce with the statement "I am not in love with you and I never have been". I was psychological ill for about 3 years and now after 14 years have just come to terms with my situation. This song still reminds me of the joy of love and companionship and I hope the pain some of you are feeling eventually tapers off to a bearable level.

When my sister died at 24 of a drug overdose I would go to her grave and blast this song and just bawl. 16 years later I can’t listen without bawling. I miss my sister, my best friend so much. We would sing this song to each other driving in the car. Ugg! I miss her! The great ones are taken too soon! Thanks for the song. It means everything to me! ❤️

Sitting here on this Thanksgiving evening, I remember my sister through this song that’s one of my all time favorites. She passed in 96’ @ 15yrs old from Brain Tumors. She fought a 9yr battle, like a soldier that didn’t know how to die… She just finally got tired.

    ***NOT MY WORDS***
This song was written by Zac Maloy about his sister, Tava, who is very much alive. At the time he wrote it, they had both moved away from Oklahoma to pursue their dreams (his music, her movie production) and she was living in California. Due to this, they didn't see each other much, and he wrote this song about missing her. She had already been very successful in her behind-the-scenes movie career, and he was very proud of her. I come from the same hometown as they do, and remember them both well. He was far preppier than his Nixon image would suggest but always sang well nonetheless.

A couple years ago one night while I was driving Lyft in Dallas TX, I got a ride request to pick up at a hotel someone named Jude. I arrived, he got in the car and said "my dad will be down in a minute... " I looked at Lyft and said to Jude, "I see y'all are going to the Bomb Factory," he said "yeah my dad's band is playing there tonight." I asked, "what's the name of your dad's band?" He said "the Nixons." Well... This was pretty cool...
Dad came and got in, on our way There we chatted about 90s music and how "Sister" is one of my favorite songs. I asked dad for his autograph, and also asked Jude for his. Dad's came back to me illegible of course. I asked him "what's your name?" He said "Zac Maloy". I said"wow! You've gone solo, haven't you?" He said yes. We chatted some more, got near the Bomb Factory and he asked me to go behind and drop them off. I freaking took Zac Maloy (and his son) in a Lyft to a concert he and the Nixon's were going to play! Yeah my mind was blown.

    Here I am again, again
    Overwhelming feelings
    A thousand miles away
    From your ocean home
    Part of me is near
Thoughts of what we were invade
    The miles that stand between
    We can't separate
Your all I hoped you'd become
Sister, I see you dancing on the stage of memory
    Sister, I miss you
    Fleeting visits pass
    Still they satisfy
    Reminders of the next
    Overshadow goodbye
    Our flames burn as one
Sister, I see you dancing on the stage of memory
    Sister, I miss you
All I am begins with you
    Thoughts of hope understood
Half of me breathes in you
    Thoughts of love remain true
Here we are again, saying goodbye
Still we fall asleep underneath the same sky
    You're all i see
    You're all I knew you'd become
Sister, I see you dancing on the stage of memory
    Sister, I miss you
    Entwined, you and I
Our souls speak from across the miles
    Intertwined, you and I
Our blood flows from the same inside
All I am begins with you
    Thoughts of hope understood
Half of me breathes in you
    Thoughts of love remain true
I feel you, I see you
    When I close my eyes
    I see you walking there...
I feel you walking in my mind

THIS SONG is one that I will FOREVER CHERISH... FOR MANY MANY REASONS...
Today it's January 6th 2023, THIS SONG was released in 1996 (if my memory is still intact) 1996 was one of the MOST beautiful/saddest years EVER... Burried one of my FAVORITE aunt's, finished high school, moved to NJ and life kicked my ass and brought my youngest brother and I closer than EVER!!! We ALWAYS send THIS PROFOUND SONG TO ONE ANOTHER WHEN LIFE IS KICKING OUR ASSES ATS A REMINDER OF BETTER DAYS, AND HOW THAT HARD YEAR MADE US STRONGER THAN EVER, AND HOW WE BECAME INSEPARABLE EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE MILES BETWEEN US OR OCEANS BETWEEN US THERE WAS NOTHING AND THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYTHING THAT COULD KEEP US FROM EACH OTHER...

Beautiful song. I lost a sister back in 1998, and it always reminded me of her. Sadly, another sister passed away just last week, and while working on a playlist for her service, it was one of the first songs to come to mind. It will always have some special meaning to me. My last name being Nixon is an odd but cool coincidence. I'm doubtful of any greater significance, but I definitely won't ever forget the name of the band! 😂🤘

Also have you heard that new song called Sister by Nixon? I hear it and think you're singing it to me..." He said "I do, and I love that song"...fast forward to today... I havent seen him for 10 years. Hes been in prison and I swear this song takes on so much more meaning to me. Thanks for making this song. Also what's the story behind it?

This is a masterpiece that was overlooked for some reason, I can't understand . I first heard this in 95 or 96 ,my friend Randy Duhon from Grapeland TX. Turned me on to it,I instantly loved it, a couple weeks later the Nixons played at a small club called crossroads in Nacogdoches TX. Randy and a couple car loads of us teenage stoners went to see them ,it was a small club ,small crowd they must have just been starting, even then I thought that a song like that thr band was bad ass and I pictured a large crowd , I think I shook hands with the band before they played, sadly at that age I was too drunk to remember any other song besides sister. Since then I play thr sing for people that have never heard it and every time I get a new ear to hear it they love it and wonder why it isn't played on every rock station regularly. It is good enough to hear daily. Anyways I had to give props to these guys. Maybe they should remaster it and release it again. Maybe this generation won't be stagnant like rock n roll was for a while there from the hair bands of the 80's ,the Seattle band kinds reopen the scene to showcase the grunge Era. I loved it all.

I saw them at the first Edge of the Cumberland Concert in Nashville with five other bands back in, I think, 1995. I had only heard this one song from them (on the radio). There were, first, the Lounge Flounders, then, I think, the Cowboy Junkies, the Nixons, then some other band that I can't recall (I wish I could), then God Lives Underwater, and then, finally, the Toadies. The Nixons were the best band that day. Sure, the Toadies were great and played for almost two hours. And God Lives Underwater were excellent. But the Nixons were the best.
Karyn Hoffman/Shemwell/Wilson, from Clarksville, TN, this was your favorite song that year since it made you think of your newfound sister in Florida (since you were adopted and had recently found your family). I hope you are well. I haven't seen you are spoken to you since 2003 or so. But I have always thought of you, wherever you are.
