Love your posted routine and chore list. Kids thrive on routine! You aren’t “robbing them” of a fun and carefree summer by establishing one. Your routine may feel mostly the same, but for the girls, it’s enough of a change and break because they aren’t attending classes, and for the boys, the play is different and their sisters are home. That is PLENTY of change. Kids. Thrive. In. Knowing. What. To. Expect. And . What’s. Expected. Of. Them. Period. Have a great summer! 💜

I am 67and grew up with a routine...but never really realized how much better life and how I feel in general is with a routine. When I had my first baby, 44 years ago, my mom stressed how our daughter would thrive on a routine. Of course, she was right, as mom's usually are. From babies ro senior citizens, routine is a must. I might add, my husband and I are employed nester, he is 72 and I am 67, and we still have a routine.
Exactly! You never outgrow from needing a routine.

I've been watching you since your oldest was a baby, and in all time, you're one of the only people I still subscribe to. We have nothing in common except an appreciation of a quality life - I'm not religious, I have no children, I am nowhere near as structured as you are, and yet, I still feel a relatability when I watch. I really appreciate you allowing us this small pleasure of a peek into your days.
I love, love, love you special find of the lamp shades. When my daughter was a child and out of school I had scheduled type summer. I seemed to cut down on the "I am bored". I have a small galley kitchen with only one window. I don’t get much natural light. So, I hang an ivory lace valance on my window. I love the beautiful lace and it still allows light in.
Can you share what brand your waffle iron happens to be? I’m always looking for one that just makes normal waffles and not Belgian waffles or whatever with those really deep holes.
As always another wonderful vlog. Totally agree with you that when you have a rough schedule it helps keep everyone in the loop of expectations for the summer. We usually keep inclement weather for trips to the library or grandma's or invite a friend over for a morning or afternoon.
Quiet/nap time gives everyone time to rest, read or even get a few winks. Even at our cottage there was quiet time with no interruptions unless an emergency.

My children always loved structure. Mondays we stayed home. Tuesday we went to the library. Wednesday we swam with friends etc. It was always so helpful to me. Each day we had chores, quiet time, reading time, outside time etc. My kids loved it. It was great for me too. Christmas in May is the way to go. I bought my Christmas tree one year in July. I paid $35 for it!!!! Jackpot!

Thank you for the link!! When my boys were much littler, we would do zone playtime at a cartain blocked time, theyd be on a 20ish min rotation, of scooter riding, drawing, playdoe, play with legos or cars....that helped with days we needed structure and they loved it!

I always had a loose schedule in the summer when my kids were little, and it was great! Now that they're teens, summer is way more loose, but I'm trying to keep to my own schedule at least, and if they'd like to join, they're welcome!(Like, going to the gym at 9am- if people are awake, they're welcome to join) If not, they have to find their own entertainment.
That list is awesome Hillary. Everyone works together. Many invaluable lessons for life - structure is vital. If any built structure isn’t sound or working together it will fall or even fail. Yes we need to let our kids let their hair down & breathe. Summer is a long time where bad habits can develop that cause Chios to get into rhythm weeks days before school starts. Enjoy your Summer! Wow, can you believe summer break is already here? Time has flown by this year! When I was raising my children, I had a set summer routine. I would take them out early to tire them out, after dinner bath time, quiet reading time and out they went to sleep.

I LOVE the PB stockings!! I would encourage you to get two stockings for you and Dan. Maybe Red? It would look so lovely with all your Christmas decor...and for such an amazing price! I bought my PBK stockings for our family 15 plus years ago and they still are in amazing shape and I still love them today!

When I was young my mom was a single mom and worked full time. My grandma lived just a couple miles from her workplace. So I stayed with grandma as summer & during school i went to & from school from bee house as well. Grandma & grandpa lived with the oldest son, his wife & 3 kids. But grandma basically had us all because everyone else worked. There HAD to be routine & structure! Especially until the 2 older ones became teens. But they lived on A farm, no can food in the house.. So guess what we did ALOT of?! Helping with getting veggies ready to be canned & frozen, all the fruits ready for jams & jellies. Believe me summer was not all play!🫤 I'd love for those days to still exist.. Food was so much better, and so were the kids! No computers, TV time was while shelling beans & peas and after dinner at night before bed.. if we weren't running around the yard playing tag in the dark or catching lighting bugs😊 You have a very nice back deck! Nicely shaded too. I had a large one when we lived in N.C. and my front covered porch is quite large in Tennessee.. My son's home her in Florida has no porch or deck🫤 If we move down here i will be looking for a home with some type of porch or lanai..i need it for my flowers!!😊 I also love the stone on your home.. is the entire home stone? I love stone homes, gives cottage vibes! Love the basket.. super cute❤ The shades are really pretty, love the color! They do look really nice where you put them. Same here, love a pleated shade! They've gotten very popular recently too! And new shades are so expensive! I collect old vintage & antique lamps, i won't buy new ones at all. Alot of my shades are glass, just the type lamps they are.. the ones with cloth shades are all original except one large brass one & i thrifted a pleated shade for it! It had a plain shade, it was dirty & i wouldn't have kept it anyway! Lol Wow.. what a great idea to have a portable potty on board! I've never done that, my kids are grown now but i have small grandchildren! My almost 5yr old grandson has a weak bladder, and he may be coming to Florida next week! I'll definitely have his mom give his little sisters potty to my husband for the trip! Pickle ball is really popular now, wish i could play.. my back & legs will not allow😑 Great tips for the car essentials! I try to keep napkins in the dash, wet wipes and an A couple empty like Walmart bags for trash. That's my 3 must haves! Also an umbrella, a thin jacket or rain jacket and a throw blanket is usually on board too. Leather seats can get really hot or cold, so i pretty much always hand a towel. When I had little ones it was everything but the kitchen sink😂 you never know right?! Sounds like you have A very smart daughter, its great that she likes to help! Five Below is a great place to get lots of things! Oh my grandson would love that dino.. he loves building thingd & using tools! I may have to go ck it out soon! I'll take him if he comes down! I really like the colored pencil kit..i like using them for the adult coloring books.. my daughter has made some beautiful pictures weigh the knife & those books. I even have one framed. She's always been artistic, her & my son, they didn't get it from mama😄 But I do so love to color honestly! Awesome deal on the stockings! Use the old stockings just for decor! We also had a loose schedule and routine for the summer...it was filled with: holidays, swimming lessons, VBS at church, playdates, library outings, time at the lake, summer camp/away camps, time with family/cousins, outside time...biking around the neighborhood, backyard fun...it was a great time...the kiddos are all out of the house, but we still enjoy fun times together as a family!

My family does much better on a summer routine. Like you said, it’s not in stone, but it’s a guideline to follow when everyone is home. The lampshades are so perfect in your kitchen. Excited to see what color you choose for your cabinet painting project! 🩵💙
I wouldn’t add a curtain to your kitchen window, it would block beautiful the view. Maybe add blue and white gingham ribbons to the jars on your bench like you do at Christmas with the red and white ribbon. Just a suggestion.
Playing outside, no matter the game or chore was always fun for me. Those stockings are so beautiful, love them!! Those lamp shades are perfect for those sconces. Little things like like that are such fun finds. Every time I make a change with anything I leave the room, come back as if I am entering for the first time, lol. I also take a picture of it before and after to see which looks better. I used to take a mirror and turn around to look before I had a cell phone. I am OCD. My husband used to laugh, but he is way too used to it now as we have been married 51 years. I live in Jacksonville, Fl. so it is already Summer here. It is a wonderful 83* here today. But Thursday and Friday show 97* for the high! Stay in klnda day. I really enjoy each video you put out Mrs. Hilary!! i am quite new but have gone back to watch and this is by far my most favorite channel. Have a Blessed evening! 💛🌻🦋

I think the only problem for me and my kids would be that late of a breakfast--especially after a walk. I know I start to feel shaky and unwell if I don't eat in the morning, but for kids I would think this would be even more so. But I do agree that a schedule is a great idea. I did something similar with my kids when they were little in the summer and it keeps everyone feeling more balanced. Otherwise the sleeping schedule gets very messed up and that isn't healthy.

Thank you so much for the free printable of the daily routine! My momma heart has been struggling since school let out two weeks ago to get my 10-year-old off the screens, getting dressed and wanting to leave the house. We live in Las Vegas and the temperatures are already at 100 degrees so outside time is limited right now, but this routine is so simple and can be super flexible while providing some structure to our family. I work outside of the home full time which adds another layer to our routine. But our little family of three made our daily schedule today after church so my husband and son can follow this while I am at work and I can jump in when I am home on the weekends of have days off. Thanks again for always making relatable and sweet content for your viewers. While our routine may not look just like yours, it gave us such a great framework to use with a few modifications to make for a (hopefully) smoother summer. Have a great evening!

that's such a blessing to have a big yard to run around in. We have a small yard and my teenagers can't find anything to do outside if they don't feel like playing basketball in the driveway.

When my children were growing up I had a schedule for their days off. We slept in, had easy mornings, had somewhere to go in the afternoon, then it was quiet time/craft time/ movies etc. Something every day. Then time for me to get dinner ready, outside play, dinner, bath, then they could do whatever they wanted, then bed. Every day had a different activity to do.

Great video! You might want to consider planting the pumpkin in the plot in your yard. They tend to spread out and get quite large.

Only 25 seconds in, but had to gush over your waffles warming in the oven!! 🤯 Brilliant! I usually put them on a baking rack so they dont get soggy, but they cool down. I'm embarrassed to say i never thought to warm them on the oven rack! Non-soggy AND warm!! 🧇 🧇 🧇 😋
