The Gladiator resembles a Hoplomachus who used a Hoplon(buckler like shield), Short Sword(gladius of some kind) or dagger, and a spear. Often times they held said sword/dagger in the same hand holding the center grip shield yet sometimes the Hoplon was just strapped to the arm like a proper shield. This could explain the issue with using a buckler instead as well as him having a more boxer style stance, as we have some evidence from tile art and carvings as well as tericotta style figures which show the spear being used as the gladiator holds his spear, but the Hoplon is quite a bit larger than a buckler because it could cover the entire forearm or if center grip would cover half but still far bigger than a buckler. Him being based on a Hoplomachus also explains the armor with having both legs having armor and his right arm as well having a Manica, but the trident was only ever used for stabbing and was only used by the Retiarius yet in game they probably were thinking that having another small shield and spear character would remind people of Valkary(sorry I have dyslexia so some things may be misspelled). As for his attacks we really can’t tell what gladiators did as nothing was really written down and was all word of mouth so on that o feel your thoughts are very logical.
I think you got it right when you said “no one in their right mind would do that” since I’m pretty sure it’s confirmed that gladiator is actually insane and believes all the battles he’s in are actually just arena matches, and his teammates are just too scared to tell him he’s crazy
I just voted, and it looks like everyone wants Peacekeeper so far (myself included. Although I DID like the other choices, I voted Peacekeeper because you've done so much of the Knight Faction already you should probably just go ahead and finish that faction off before moving on to the others).
Yeah. I voted warlord but in hindsight there isn't much to disect atleast kit wise, pk is duel wielding so it may actually lead to discussing some new ground on that regard. I'm also kind exited to see him tear into her armor.
I think you covered just about everything notable except for one minute detail: after a skewer (and forgive me if I get this wrong as I don't play glad myself) glad can jab the impaled opponent with his buckler to basically add insult to injury (or rather add another injury to injury). I've always found this to be a rather cool and somewhat plausible looking move and I'm kinda curious about your thoughts on it
He can jab them only when they are pinned to a wall, but more interestingly he can throw his opponent while they are skewered, and he can dodge out of the skewer (which confirms a forward dodge light for respectable damage)
I would like to see you making a comment about his finishers. I really enjoy this sort of analysis you do in your channel; it's fun and gives the audience a lot of knowledge about history and medieval combat. Keep Up the good job, man.
Loving this video series as I've always been a fan of the history of warfare and hearing you talk about the manuscripts and techniques used then makes me wish even more so there was a HEMA place around where I live.
the defense i can give to the toe collector is that due to how they hold the trident you can say that the toe stab is kind of a misdirection you start the animation up high making them think you are going to stab them in the face chest or arm and they ready themselves to block the hit just to bring it down on to their feet fingers severely hindering the opponent(glad should keep his sheild up towards his head and neck though instead of throwing it out to the side)
About the gauntlet claws, there were some examples of people using claws similar to this in gang fights in the 19th and maybe 20th century, but against armour it probably isn't a good idea as you mentioned... But it isn't only some mall ninja shit, not much better but still real...
I know that his deflect punish is just the same as his normal skewer, but I think it would’ve been cool to touch up on the actual deflect itself a little. Also during the skewer you can transform it into a throw that has a slightly different animation
I find very funny that they used a trident ande buckler for gladiator instead of a more clasic murmillo sword/shield, or even dual wield for spartacus vibes
I might do a reaction to the 2015 gameplay trailer as more than a few people have asked for it at this point. As for another Bannerlord video, it did not do so well so I don't know if I will do another one of those. Those videos take about as long as my For Honor ones as they are essentially the same kind of video. I think more people would appreciate if I put that work towards For Honor instead unfortunately.
@@GoGoDani no problem but please check this video out ill send a link if you want you can make a video on it but its up toruclips.net/video/e1K53sKVZPE/видео.html
I thought you were going to mention the skewer throw. It might have not been important, but you mention before about the history of the trident being a tool to stabbing and manipulating. Thoughts on skewer throw?
The idea of being able to move someone around while they are impaled on your weapon is a little bit far-fetched. They would be pretty much dead at that point so I couldn't see them being walked around while also stabbed and suffering heavy bleeding.
@@GoGoDani Ah good point. I just think it is interesting that he technically uses his trident as he would with a fish. One of the many reasons he is just a madman who will perish due to terrible fighting.
Right i might be missing somthing here but....what about his executions and emotes tho if i recall in prt 1 you said there wasint much in the emotes to point out im not sure
The toe stab is extra bad because the one thing that is pretty much always activated and ready to move is your feet. I know For Honor hates the concept of voiding blows, but what makes attacks to the legs and feet particularly non viable in most fights is that on top of exposing yourself, your opponent is basically getting a dark souls level telegraph as what to do to counter and the effectiveness of your toe-focused attack can be mostly or entirely mitigated by simple, natural, movements that would be commonplace when performing a strike or simply moving in a fight.
Idk if you know this already, but a site called Forfashion by Draghmar exists, where gear pieces are uploaded so that you don't need to find them all yourself.
I noticed that as well when I finished it. It seemed redundant to talk about each stance individually as I could cover them as a whole since they all suffer from the same issue.
I have a question about the centurion move set the legion kick. I understand why you wouldn't want to do a front kick like that as you say balance and other dozens of reason, but If you HAD to do a simple front kick((or what known in the game I assume cause I don't play for honor the "legion kick")). Wouldn't it be better for you to stun or distracted the enemy first? For example like you have your enemy weapon hand in a tight hold with your free hand, then do some kind of pommel strike where around the head or face to where the pain will do a stun/distraction to creat a opening. Will that be atlest the best way to do a front kick?
I feel like you could've talked about the dodfe more, like compared to shaman, orochi, kensei, his dodge is very realistic as a side step and a light jeb, a few steps to dodge an incoming attack and a counter attack with not a crazy amount of force behind it, idk something about the footwork makes it seem very pluasible to me, in an almost similar sense to zhanhu or valkery ( why cant i spell) if she did more than a little poke.
I'm the only one that would love if the gladiator was a hero more focused on grapple and on guard Breaks? like cent but with a more speedy nature of a assassin hero, instead of the toe stabber and belly destroyer that we Have in the game
I'd argue that he already kinda is between the scure, toe stab, and buckler punches, plus unlike cent glad actually uses his weapons for it, funny enough making him feel like they are a extension of his arm, a promise cent doesn't really live up to if compared to the rest of the cast. Like he can pin. He can bop. That's the only special stuff he can do with the gladius. Don't get me wrong I love that glorious Roman bastard much as the next guy. But idk, I feel every character has that one trailer line that they just don't live up to and that's just cent's.
How realistic is a throw from skewer? It leaves your top half vulnerable yeah but then again your trident is half way through their mid-section so would it be plausible to drag them into a wall or something?
Would the toestab be better if he kept his buckler in front while doing it, maybe controlling his opponent’s right arm with it? I noticed he puts it down to his side which probably makes the move even worse
There are very few circumstances where aiming for the lower half of a body is viable, and in most cases you are sacrificing a lot for so little. You also run the risk for two things: 1. You focus on defending you keep your eyes up and looking at the opponent's weapon, which means you could possibly miss you attack as the legs are much smaller target than say, a torso. 2. You take your eyes off from your targets weapon which means that you are no longer properly defending yourself, which could cost you your life. I see no viable way that you can do this safely from a neutral position. Now there are other factors that could come into play if you start using a bunch of "what ifs", like "What if the defender was on higher ground making the lower half of their body a larger target" or "what if they were disoriented or blinded and they were only defending their upper half with something like a shield", then yeah maybe those situations would call for it. In the case of this scenario though, we are under the assumption that the Gladiator just throws these out at any point and from neutral. I would say, from that perspective, it is illogical and not viable at all.
There are buckler and spear manuscripts that depict some of what gladiator does. Like the Gladitoria group. Just assuming that you can replace the sword and buckler techniques with a spear is just plain incompetent.
Okay but, If you're going to compare Trident to a sword at least compare it to an axe instead, sense the trident relies more of momentum than a sword does, also an x relies more on momentum as well , I'm pretty sure at least , since he does large jabs and his second heavies . Are literally large swings, don't know why you would choose a sword, like I guess Vikings do axe and small shields sometimes so you would have more to work with there.
My question is weather or not the post toe stab would actually knock someone down. Also you missed the punch after the scure but that's just me being pedantic.
THERE ONE MOVE YOU FORGOT TO MENTION!!!! Grabbing your oppenet bear for a shield bash!!! >:D 😆. In all honesty I learn that there is a technique where if your oppenet bear is long enough to gran just yank that sucker, thinking about it now will probably be fun to have instead of the toe stab. Though again it goes back to the heros wearing helmets or don't have bears. I'm sad to that 😭😭😭

I didn't feel like it was necessary as it was him just skating under an attack with his buckler. Especially since I already covered skewer. I probably should have said something tho lmao.
