RIP Queen Aretha I saw this scene as a child and I'll never forget it. Seeing Murphy's eyes light up as she met her hero and got to sing with her, seeing Aretha so happy to interact with a fan and do a show like this. She seemed absolutely lovely, and her impact on music will never be forgotten.
I had to find this clip for the EXACT same reason. This weekend, mourning her lost, I feel like Murphy Brown. Just excited to sing along and remember the true Queen of Soul. RIP
I remember the original airing of this episode. My mom practically laughed until she cried at Candice Bergen's awful singing. It must have been an utter joy to film this scene.
I like the scene in another episode when Candace was "spying" on Colleen Dewhurst (playing Murphy's mother) singing. The joy on Candace's face watching this amazing actor belt one out was sweet. Her face lights up watching her idols.
I never realised how good of an actor Aretha was. The appearances I’ve seen her in have been so natural especially when cameos can be so wooden. I’ll miss this woman but we will always have so many ways to carry on enjoying her many talents.
Khalid al-Masri it’s actually not her virtuosity, which was surprising, but the rhythmic intensity and innovation. Not many people would play this the way she does.
Candace Bergen is not acting here--she is truly enamoured with this. R.I.P. Aretha. "Murphy" did sing this to her baby, Avery, and that was fun watching that.
Ive never seen this! I bet Candice Bergen was in Heaven to be in presence of an angel! Singing with Aretha...well, trying 😸 How wonderful that would be!!
"Your self control was much better that time" LOL!!!! I thank God for RUclips because I can see and hear the Queen in all of her greatness. R.I.P Queen we'll miss you terribly
I attended a taping of Murphy Brown yesterday. This clip was played in tribute along with her music throughout the taping breaks. Faith Ford (Corky) was very emotional. It was touching.
Thought of this when I had heard of her passing....she had the most amazing singing AND acting chops ( The Blues Brother's too ) she could make you smile and bring you to tears with the beauty of her voice and soul. 👑💞RIP Aretha 💞👑
Aretha’s voice and piano skills were just pure MAGIC! She was absolutely mesmerizing! Such a beautiful, graceful lady too. Her talents extended well beyond music, she was also a great cook. I saw her making delicious food with Martha Stewart and Emiril Agassi. Rest in Heaven, Queen of Soul.
I got to see Aretha Franklin after an exhibition football game. When people were leaving I just kept getting closer and closer to her stage. It was the greatest show. My husband said he came back for me but I never say him. (X husband now) so I stayed until the concert was over and damn wasn't it worth it. I went to the security office and one of the officers said he could take me home. It was a win win as far as I was concerned. I don't remember what time I got home but my x wanted to know when I was. I said where did you leave me you moron, I just went to see Aretha Franklin. She was awesome! I couldn't care less how I was going to get home, I was there for the most important part and that was all that mattered to me!
Murphy Brown Aretha Franklin this was King dream to see people from two different colors getting along as one. rest in peace Aretha Franklin and the whole world love you but Jesus love you best Emmett house
I know. I remember this. Candice, You deserve all of those Emmys, but don't show up at the Grammy's LOL. What a lady Aretha was! It looks as if Candice is almost crying. I ain't Martha and you ain't no Vandella.
Definitely one of my favorite TV moments! There was an emotional connection between Ms Aretha and Candace Bergen as Murphy Brown. It was funny. I got a kick out of when she first plays the piano and says , "ooh Steinway, fancy".
My mom was one of Aretha Franklin biggest fan that she even looked like her. Now I know why she used to like to watch Murphy Brown back in the day. It was because of this episode with Aretha Franklin on it😄
I forgotten this episode of Murphy Brown . I love the fact that she loved rhythm and blues Murphy a little soul sister God bless Aretha wish I could go to her services
I so remember this episode and wish I had a recorder back then I would have played it over and over...instead I had to be happy with my memory until youtube...yay for youtube!!!
Vincent!!! Get it straight!!! Carole didn't write this for Aretha!!! She sang it!!! And Aretha did so "AFTER" Carole!! no disrespect to Aretha because she bona fide this song!!! But it's about the facts!!!
No Telly, you get it right! Carole King has stated herself that it was the last song she co wrote with Gerry Goffin and Jerry Wexler and that they were asked to write it for Aretha by Jerry Wexler. Carole King sang it later on Tapestry. This can be verified here ruclips.net/video/2wXIIYZcXWY/видео.html; and here ruclips.net/video/XHsnZT7Z2yQ/видео.html
I watched Murphy Brown religiously, and do not remember this episode. I love it! Aretha was so confident and charming in this. The best ive ever seen her 'act' on TV. I think bcuz her weight was intact she was feeling happy with herself. Great episode.
Aretha was so natural as an actress wish she had done more.
Blues Brothers.
@@Perepetespal Classic role too! She sang “Think!”
RIP Aretha Franklin - an icon, a queen , an angel.
"I'm not Martha, and you ain't no Vandella." LOL! Rest, Aretha.
😂
LOL Randeman. Thank you that was more the correct saying.
She had to let her know. Shut the hell up and let me sing 😂😂
Rest in peace , Her Majestic Greatness, Aretha, Queen of Soul
There was only one Aretha Franklin & one Murphy Brown, unique & wonderful, and invincible women.
RIP Queen Aretha
I saw this scene as a child and I'll never forget it. Seeing Murphy's eyes light up as she met her hero and got to sing with her, seeing Aretha so happy to interact with a fan and do a show like this. She seemed absolutely lovely, and her impact on music will never be forgotten.
Amen!
I had to find this clip for the EXACT same reason. This weekend, mourning her lost, I feel like Murphy Brown. Just excited to sing along and remember the true Queen of Soul. RIP
This was one of four times Murphy paid homage to Aretha and Natural Woman during the show.
I remember the original airing of this episode. My mom practically laughed until she cried at Candice Bergen's awful singing. It must have been an utter joy to film this scene.
Ohhh, clearly they were both enjoying one another and Candice singing what she got in at least was not so bad !!!!! God Bless them both !!!!!
You can genuinely see Candice fan girl in this. Her eyes almost tear up.
Candice's "ah-ooh’s“ are trademark-worthy.
Aside from the stellar vocals, Aretha was an incredibly talented pianist! RIP Queen.
Candice Bergen didn't have to act in this scene. This was a true performance showing a genuine reaction to Aretha's genius.
I like the scene in another episode when Candace was "spying" on Colleen Dewhurst (playing Murphy's mother) singing. The joy on Candace's face watching this amazing actor belt one out was sweet. Her face lights up watching her idols.
I love Candice so much in this role. Murphy would never had been the same without her.
“You deserve those Emmy’s each of every one of them you got. But please don’t show up the Grammys.” You are missed more than anyone Aretha.
Always.
I remember this episode of Murphy Brown from years ago. Candice Bergen was a real Aretha Franklin fan as were many of us! RIP icon Aretha Franklin.
RIP Aretha. You were class all the way!
This is my favorite episode of Murphy Brown. I love Aretha's facial expressions when Murphy started singing. I wish I could find the entire episode.
rest in peace magical lady
Aretha was a beautiful woman inside as well as outside.
I never realised how good of an actor Aretha was. The appearances I’ve seen her in have been so natural especially when cameos can be so wooden.
I’ll miss this woman but we will always have so many ways to carry on enjoying her many talents.
I remember being so floored by her piano playing when it first aired.
she was always a virtuoso pianist , but nobody seemed to know . like marvin gaye.
Khalid al-Masri it’s actually not her virtuosity, which was surprising, but the rhythmic intensity and innovation. Not many people would play this the way she does.
Great underrated pianist. That’s her gospel, church upbringing right in her fingers and voice!!
And she played by ear
Candace Bergen is not acting here--she is truly enamoured with this. R.I.P. Aretha. "Murphy" did sing this to her baby, Avery, and that was fun watching that.
That scene of her singing to the baby was so touching, never forgot it.
Who wouldn't be?
They both seem to be enjoying the hell out of this! LOVE IT!
Ive never seen this! I bet Candice Bergen was in Heaven to be in presence of an angel! Singing with Aretha...well, trying 😸 How wonderful that would be!!
Lisa-Lin B you can tell by that smile and admiration on her face
@@carrie14u2nv like she's looking at a precious piece of gold
"Your self control was much better that time" LOL!!!! I thank God for RUclips because I can see and hear the Queen in all of her greatness. R.I.P Queen we'll miss you terribly
If she never sang a note, Aretha’s piano work at 1:44 would be enough. She will be sorely missed.
Mark Zustovich so true! So underrated as a pianist.
True. And Natural Woman is piano song. It's one of those songs where the instrumentation is as essential as the vocal.
Loved Murphy Brown. Adored Aretha....
Rip Queen Aretha. This is how I always think of America. People just being people easily united. May we see those days again.
FacheChanteDeux I wish it was always this way.
FacheChanteDeux 👍
