  • In this video, I walk through things I've built in Coda and Google Sheets and a few key takeaways from working with customers.
I recently worked with a customer who wanted to get a bunch of stuff built into their Coda doc. After I implemented all the formulas, features, and automations to make it function they way they wanted, I was surprised by their feedback:
    "This color looks weird."
"Why is this left-aligned and not right-aligned?"
"Why is this button so big?"
Mostly formatting and usability feedback about the doc. This led me to thinking about all the Excel files, Google Sheets, and presentations I've worked on throughout the years. Whether it's a dashboard in Google Sheets or a web app, the only thing that the people using the dashboard or app cared about was: is it easy to use? No one gives two shits about the super nested formula you wrote or the clean code you had to write. If it doesn't work and isn't user friendly, then you should detach from the thing you've built and start over.
