Back in the 70's my dad was not going to dole out 10 dollars to buy some tenny shoes. That's what we called them. The word sneakers did not exist in our rural Georgia vocabulary. We played basketball on dirt. My dad bought me some cheap Pic N Pay knockoffs which worked nicely on those dirt courts, but were a hazard playing on a real court at school. Those cheap shoes cost less because they had plastic soles instead of rubber soles and plastic soles gain no traction on a real court. Because of lack of traction I was always last in suicide drills. It still bothers me fifty years after the fact.

I am going to say it again. Shoes and tennis were made to last. Today's shoes man-made leather. Tennis were stitch not glued like you see on tennis costing hundreds of dollars. My parents believed in quality not quantity. Wilt Moses,Kareem and even the Harlem Globetrotters made the Converse shoes work. I'm not going to waste my breath on those Dollar Tree shoes.
