  • With foxes on the prowl for pheasant poults, it's time for keepers to get out the rifles and start shooting. To coincide with this, Sauer has brought out a 'Keeper Package'. It is the latest in a trend of rifle packages from several of the manufacturers. Tim Pilbeam reviews it.
    For the Sauer Keeper package (Sauer 100 XT in .223 + Minox scope + mounts + Barton Gunworks moderator, £2100) go to www.blaser-sporting.com

    Minox make a great scopes and the ZX5 1-5x24 illuminated for a stalking or driven hunt scope is hard to beat for the price.

    That's cool, i didn't know they sell Rifles in a package deal. I've seen .50 Caliber muzzle loader in Wal-Mart that come with a complete package. But knowing that higher end Rifles come in package deals is nice for beginner shooters.

      @Xiven X I like the ZX5 and the ZP range - have a look at www.minox.com/index.php?id=11777 - the more open country you are hunting the bigger the scope. / Charlie

    Why not compare the 3 price ranges of the package deals mentioned? Not everyone can afford a £2000 gun to chuck into a truck for the odd fox!

    In New Zealand they are selling them with a Ziess Terrea 6-9x40 scope for 2000 NZD , around 1000 pounds

    Woah!!!! Not sure about that- where is my metal action with no need for stock bedding? Good review but once they take that away ( I have a few and they are seriously accurate) then I may as well be looking at the Remington. They are obvi v serious though with that 1 calibre - Typical sauer quality but not typical sauer.

    I'm keen to buy on of these from my dealers shelf shortly and I greatly respect your opinion, but a few of the magazine feeding and accuracy comments below appear quite negative.....hence the Q re 'which ammo'.....and did u experience any feeding issues? Many thanks. James. Australia.

    Oh no I was thinking of buying one in 6.5PRC,but with comments about feeding problems with the 223 ?

  • @jamesthehondaman
    @jamesthehondaman 6 лет назад +1

    Just curious, but when you filmed the loading of the magazine and showed the subsequent rounds on target, the ammunition were 'hollow points'......at the conclusion of the test your showed boxes of the ammunition used and they were all ballistic tips............is that just an editing of 'stock film footage' error?

    • @fieldsportstv
      @fieldsportstv  6 лет назад

      Hi - not sure how that happened. During the day, we used both types of ammo. There were no problems with the plastic tips and magazine feeding was fine. The point about this set-up is it's relatively cheap and does the job. Hope this helps. / Charlie

    Long action 223? I noticed your thumb hiding the back of the magazine, where you can't see the block. I have this gun in a 270. Great shooter. But know what your buying. At least he showed the odd bedding. One more thing . Thre barrel is heat pressed onto the receiver. You can never replace the barrel. Still a great gun.

    my son's .223 keeper won't shoot moa. 1.5" -2 " groups at best. Feeding also a problem and the action doesn't like single feeding. Also have light primer strikes on 20% of all ammo tested. Thinking I should have bought the tikka. GRS are the only company that make a stock for it and there are no magazines with more that 4 rounds available. Think twice about this product.

    I have a Sauer 100 in 223 since April. Its is the worst feeding rifle I have ever had. Sauer/Blaser sent me a new redesigned centre fed magazine (the one in this video) and its worse. Won't feed a single round! It's back with the dealer again. Very disappointed. Should have bought a Tikka.

      Any rifle that won't feed from a magazine and won't shoot < 1 MOA won't stay in my safe.
      Anything else even in a $500 rifle is unacceptable
