First filmed lesson of the 2020 off-season with Matt Blois. Big focuses for this off-season is to help him curve the ball less and help him get rid of his tendency to tilt back. Real good start here!!!
Check out / larrycheunggolf for more golf swings and cool things!!!
Key points:
3:04 - Looking at DTL swing
4:15 - Looking at Faceon swing
5:05 - Fixing the lower body turn in backswing
11:33 - IMPORTANT - Starting to fix the lead shoulder down and around
17:54 - Good Faceon swing
18:12 - Good DTL swing
22:52 - Walking Matt through a big exaggeration
31:02 - Big key for Matt - trying to hit pull fade with open face - starts going on a good run of swings
Ooo this is a game changer for me, just focused on my shoulder leading in like that and the difference it made was crazy, love it
Tell Matt not to take this the wrong way but thanks for getting frustrated with this pretty major swing change - it helps bring all of us down to earth and realize that yes, our swing changes are going to be just as difficult.
Finally! I've been waiting to see how a golfing robot operates!!!
Takes a lot of work! Great to see the progress at the end of the video.
Put a conscious effort into using this move, early days as yet my draw / hook has turned into straight / tiny fade. Thanks for the video tips . Keep up the great work👍
Wow how cool is not having to translate I love Matty Lessons. Now as far as Matty swinging the best he ever has .... stop it Larry😂 Big congratulations on 202010k Larry you deserve it! Keep working hard!👍
As someone who can turn his draw into a hook this is something I will look at trying
Just need a 180 7 iron as well 😁
was a good lesson bud!
👍👍
Hard to slow down a hockey player 😉
This "technical mumbo jumbo" is what's helping him swing so nice =)
@Hello Newman! Don't discount yourself, these lesson videos are specific to the student in the video, they may make no sense to you because they may not apply to you =)
The hardest thing my swing coach has me do is the 1% and 25% swing speed drills - glad I'm not alone in struggling to go at those speeds!
They're awful but amazing 😂
This is killer. Lots of fun to see the work that you are both putting in. Thanks to Matt for letting us see behind the curtain. It can’t be completely comfortable. 🙂 makes me want to go get lessons!!
Are those balls full of helium
Awesome coaching Larry!!
Great advice to achieve a more neutral path! And by the way: way more turn of the torso in the downswing.
MB, looking like a left handed Gary Woodland, wow what a transformation.
@30:20 you make a point saying if you're keeping the face open you have to rotate more to square it up. I have to try this cause keeping the face open is my problem. Hence why my miss is a push/ push fade.
Couple observations and a question. I was having some problems with your method and others for maybe a lifetime, slice, hitting behind ball, and then I fixed it. It came to me, my hands were drooping at address and so I was hitting with the toe too low causing those slices and distance problems. I angled up, squatted a little lower to get the iron flat on the ground and immediately solid contact using any golfing method. It was similar to a Frisbee throw!!!! Then after watching the left-hander Matt Blois lesson, I went out to my mat and net in the garage and your method was so easy to do. I actually think it is better to watch left-hander's to make you concentrate.
My question, on the downswing, do you recommend leading with the forward shoulder or the rear shoulder. ?
Larry, great lesson! ..and sick Nike's lol.
The discipline of the 3/4 speed, or slower, swing. It's a brutal part of the process. Larry, maybe crack the whip and tell Matt no swings over 70mph.. ; )
Haha, the better the player, the more say they have to some extent =P
Hardest thing about practicing moves and not worrying about the contact...I only have so many balls in the bucket. Tough to get over that feeling of wasting shots, but that's what the range is there for.
Not wasting shots at all!!! =)
With the shoulders going down and around to such a degree. How do you keep the ball from hooking?
making sure the clubhead is coming from behind =)
Good stuff thank you 🙏
could you do a video on clubhead closure rate? since that often determains how good of a golfer you can become
Can you expand on what you mean that it determines how good you can become ?
I don't think clubhead closure rate will determine how good of a golfer you can become at all
Larry Cheung Golf look at the best players in the world. They all Have super low closure rate. Google kelvin miyahira rate of closure. And look at the picture showing different level of golfers. Eventhough u Dont think that it mattets that Much. Could u do a video on it? Testing our weak/strong grip, fade/draw and how it changes. There are No video online on the topic
..."Go partial speed Matt": Matt carries 177, 184 total!
lolll
Matt yawns... I laugh. Great instruction. Really good video!
Is in to out path meaning out to in in this video since quad is set up for a right handed player in this video it seems (draws are reading as fades)
Not sure I would mess with my swing if I had Matt's. Could he just work on opening or closing the club head at address and aiming his body for a cut or draw? Like Jack Nicklaus did.
Not messing around with it, just refining and tightening him up =)
Good stuff, anymore footage/updates coming from Wesley?
He's swinging well, for him to get over 185 ballspeed and keep the playability, he'd have to go to the gym =)
Wow! I don't think I really get the end purpose..very technical.
Neutral path is a hard thing.. once you reduce the curve on your draw it gets harder to trust starting the ball right for a right handed player
The goal for him wouldn't be 0 degree path, just helping him not fall back into his tendency of too much inside-out with too much shallow AoA
So, what is an acceptable in to out path in terms of degrees? I am in the 3 to 4 degree range. I consistently hit a 5 yard or so draw with my irons. Driver about a 10 yard draw. I am 66, so it helps with some distance but, for the life of me, I cannot hit a fade. Scores are good, low to mid 70's. Should I even attempt altering my path with this drill? 7 iron goes about 165 max.
Depends on player but less than 5 is my preference. If you are consistent which it sounds like you are no point trying to hit a fade, stick to one ball flight =)
so whats matts deal? is he on any tours? or has he ever tried getting on tour? he easily has the numbers. carries his driver 300 yards and hit it so straight. obviously he has the iron game. would love to see him compete
No, he just likes playing for fun, more to competitive golf than hitting the ball well =)
Struggling with to far from the inside as well also closing the club face a bit any recommendations/drills for club face control
Try what Matt is doing in this video, hitting pull cuts feeling an open face
Larry when I try to do the lead shoulders down
And
How is he still inside out with that motion!!!
making sure the clubhead is coming from behind =)
I currently have a swing speed of 104mph and I hit the ball really high with not that much distance. I was wondering if a low spin driver would be good for me? I currently hit a Ping G 410 pus driver.
I'd recommend getting fit to find out, I can't provide an educated guess with what you've told me =)
Won’t it be very very difficult for him to hit cuts once you added the depth? You can see his path immediately went from -1-2 to +4-5.
Nope, and at the end of the day he will play little draws as a stock shot =)
What's the material behind the screen that doesn't make the ball shoot back at you?
There is another layer behind the screen
@@LarryCheungGolf Thanks. So just two screens?
Would be useful if coaches used ‘lead’ and ‘trail’ rather than left and right, save us having to convert.
Also would be helpful to leave screen shot of trackman data for longer so that we can take it in, rather than flash on flash off.
The lesson is aimed at the client in the video, they digest left and right more, so that's what I say to make the lesson as easy as possible. The Foresight data staying on for 3 seconds is enough in my opinion =)
1 min into video and I noticed a noticable over the top movement starting the downswing.. Yet still hitting slightly from inside..
Back to vid
This was intentional. Bc the player was too inside out with a very shallow AoA. So to neutralize this, he has to feel the opposite.
Now I understand why in the txg Matt is doing his exaggerated moves in practice. He is getting his feel even though his real has the hands much lower.
Feel is never the same as real =)
Around I find my self coming over the top what am I doing wtong
You're arms probably not back enough or you don't need to go down and around with your lead shoulder, hard to say without seeing how your swing looks =P
Trying to get him swinging like Hunter Mahan...
I really hate Matt, he is complaining about it being too slow and then the club head speed pops up and it is still faster than my normal full 7i swing!
That’s my normal swing!
You swing it really good then!!! =)
I always thought over the top was bad. I do that move without trying! 😂
please no leftys
