I just know that everyone hated the movie, but I personally liked the graphics and storyline. I usually can't handle movies that have a lot going on, but I liked this one.
the movie was nice, but the original comic was much much better and more focalized on laureline

Imho, Besson wanted to do another big movie like the 5th element, but the screenplay wasn't up to the original material. Cara delawhatsherface can't act and whiles tremendously talented, Dabe DeHaan was too baby faced to incarnate Adrian(who's a rough type playboy adventurer in his 40's like Corto Maltese.)
Also the original material is mostly know in France, Belgium and among old school comics nerd. Tricky to compete with all the Marvel Machine in 2017.
I think as a limited TV series It would have worked better.

the opening scene with the the different countries and eventually aliens meeting on the constantly growing station and shaking hands with Space Oddity playing in the is still one of the best openings in movies
Huge potential. Although the leads/characters were based on the book, it was a miscast. Using teenagers to tell a epic tale doesn't cut it

Trying to call someone out for being young while using a childish insult by making fun of their name and telling them to end themselves.

What killed this movie for me was that in the aftermath of losing their entire support team (4:33) the two main characters don't show any sign of caring in the least.
To be fair you have to remember who they are and their jobs
@@exstratos2477 There is keeping the goal in mind when assessing value to loss, then there is keeping any resemblance to humanity. If you lose the humanity the goal is already lost.
These two leads were pretty much wooden planks in terms of personality and appearance, so it's not surprising they can't emote here.
In the future emotion will hinder us. Maybe future humans will just go for the goal instead of emotionally crying when their comrades die.
@@cryptoboy8225 Why keep humans then? Our electric children could do that better than us. Maybe that is your point though? I'd rather hope we could help foster full sentience in both electric entities and other species. Having no care as to whether or not they would later deem us a threat. Perhaps they could learn from our mistakes instead of repeating them...
This movie had one of the greatest openings ever. It was original in concept and visually stunning. Sadly they two leads they cast have all of the charisma of three day old fish and putting them together increased the suck level exponentially.

Very true. I've tried to watch this movie twice -- and both times, I get so annoyed with the two insufferable lead actors I shut the movie off within 20 minutes.

this movie could've been one of the best science fiction adaptation, but there's just so much going on, so many plot holes, so many unnecesary scenes, scenes that contradict each other, but hey, at least the design and CGI was good

Nothing beats watching a quality movie. You'd be missing out a lot if you skipped or fast forward watching a movie that turned out a calibre quality.

@@ItzUnknwn yeah so my point is, you might be fast forwarding a movie with a hidden calibre quality. Those unknown ones and not made by the big picture companies. You thought the movie was awful because the trailer was awful. You thought it was garbage because the well-known critics despises it. But you end up giving it a try anyways, just not so much into it. But you end up loving the movie at the end and might recommend it to your friends. I've been there.

This recap made more sense than the movie.
The only problem this movie has is the weak characters and plot.
Setting wise it is rather amazing for a Sci-Fi.
I always loved the concept of humans cooperating with other creatures making better civilizations, and personally I loved the graphics and visuals of this movie :)

I remember watching this movie with my family like a few years ago in the theaters and I was like "am I missing a movie that happened before this?" when it started acting like we knew who the main characters were.
I’m 73 and have seen a lot of movies in my life. Very good ones, good ones and not so good ones. I tend to not pick a movie to pieces and find faults with it. I either like it or not. This one I liked. For SFX it’s right on top. I was thoroughly entertained. I thought the main characters were right on keeping a calm level in all that chaos. Cara Delevigne is pretty good, I’ve seen other films with her and she is a decent actress! I would suggest when watching a film to go rather by feeling than dissecting it to pieces! This one was pure fun , that’s all!
I saw a little glimpse of the movie when I was too little and had multiple dreams about the movie throughout, but couldn't remember its name. Thanks to your recap, I finally found this movie's name.
Decent movie. Simple plot, beautiful scenes. Loved the Market scene. The Planet of Pearls was the best part. Would watch a whole movie with that location.
The weak spots for me were the lead cast. They lacked credibility and were wooden at best. A 14yrs old looking (good for him though) dude cast as a "womanizer" was hilarious 😂. The girl sounded like her audio was added later by a robot voice. Thought she was a cyborg 😂 Especially when she tells him to go after a ship, during a chase. Other than that good movie just parts were stretched too looong.
The two had the charisma individually of three day old dead fish. Together they were an atomic bomb of suck and destroyed what could have been a good film.

What bothered me most is that for me they look like siblings, them as romantic partners just wasn't convincing
Simple plot? The whole movie goes randomly from one dues ex machina to the next, without any coherency.
It has no internal rules, other than "heroes get randomly saved by this random thing happening..."
The ending was just inhumane, why would they let innocent living creatures go like that??? That's just not humane!!!.
Honestly 3 minutes in i had to stop cause this seems such a great movie that i wanna watch the whole thing!

for me the best scene was the beginning when the humans Welcome all the race.

Sadly, this recap was a THOUSAND times more interesting than what the actual _movie_ turned out to be. And I was SO excited to see this (back when it originally came out). I remember dragging my husband to the theater when it was first released, giddy as a school girl. But although the graphics were 'decent', and it had interesting ideas and sci-fi themes...it fell flat, altogether being a VERY expensive _mess._
I was surprised there was not a sequel. It had alot of holes I figured would be answered in a sequel.

Because the main characters are completely bland to the point where you don't care about them and the story is completely over the place. For example, Rihanna's character shows up out of nowhere, contributes absolutely nothing to the plot, dies to never be mentioned again. But it took I don't know how long to show her story that contributed nothing at all. The whole movie is like this.
Now of course we don't all like the same things in movies, some people are just happy to immerse themselves in the environment and can overlook issues others might not. But it certainly was very far from a perfect movie.
Because the movie was busy with side quests instead of going to main storyline.
for me was because the story felt so charged with unnecesary stuff, the whole jellyfish and shapeshifting rihanna alien scenes that were so long and added nothing to the plot (why is an ocean and alien whales on a space station? Why did Valerian use Rihanna as a disguise if he just ended up killing everybody while looking human???)
the 2 lead actors are way to young for the role and their characters are not likeable, like at all. Even that they're good actors, their performance on this one was really underwhelming

I read several stories from this series and they actually great. The aesthetics and some of the world building had influence on the Star Wars series.
I loved this movie. Wasn't too keen on the 2 main characters. I thought their romantic chemistry together was kind of average but the rest of the movie was visually stunning, and their peformances apart were good.
Very clever stuff like the entire market sequence and so on. It was fun..

I loved this movie, felt like watching the entire HP saga in one sitting.
I know that there were a lot of viewers who didn't like this movie, but I personally loved it. Sure the cast wasn't the best, but the storyline was interesting enough, while the visuals were stunning (which was a given, seeing the film's director also did The Fifth Element).
This movie was so cool and i so wish there were sequels. The scene where he started running through walls was cool as hell.
Truly a world class unfairly under rated movie. I totally dug it. Come to think of it I am going to go on goggle right now and buy it actually. Thanks movie recap.

Even though I havent red the comics I feel like this adaptation could've been better if it was a netflix series or a tv show. The movie was so condensed that it felt like it glossed over so storyline that could've explain the setting of the story.
Netflix is literally hit or miss, and most of their shows are misses.

Having read the Valerian comics over and over again as a kid, this was the one movie I always wanted to see made. The effects, aliens and universe was true to the story and expertly made. But sadly the actors was a major disappointment and ruined the experience. In the comics the actors have a deep and complex relationship, but these actors didn’t even come close to it. Such a disappointment. I want to see a remake or better yet a epic series with long episodes. There is heaps of material to draw upon from the comics
I get the sense there is a deep story here. I hate to rag on these actors but they were pretty cringy. The romantic element of the story feels forced and unnecessary

I found Miss Delevingnes performance quite terrible, kinda stiff....and she reminded me in no way of the original character
I really like this movie and storyline as it make sense how one could possess such power and annihilate another existence and hide their existence. Graphics as pretty good
Damn you guys should make a video on Wrath Of Man, title it “man hunts down ex-marines for killing his son” or something but I rate the movie a perfect 10/10

One of my favorites! Superb graphics. It probably helps to be familiar with the Valerian graphic novels on which this is based.
I loved this movie so much, that I’ve watched it multiple times.
i had no idea there was source material so I really enjoyed the movie as a spectacle even if it wasn't super coherent. it almost made sense because the entier setting is huge. they should make this into a long running series
the original comic books are older than star wars, and it's visible how it inspired multiple sci fi franchises, because you constantly see similarities with some modern franchises core components
No wonder this movie was panned. It's super complicated and very in depth. And that's why I loved it. The more complex the better.

Although there are almost no adjectives in the narration, I enjoy these succinct, long story short version movies that leave a mix of feelings because all of the storyline is compressed to mere 10 minutes. One may compare these clips to fast food of movies, though I do enjoy them. The background music is a great choice too, no matter the movie genre.
I genuinely don't get people's hatred of this movie; it's awesome & I love it! 🥰❤️

It's strange that a movie with such an interesting concept turned out to be so utterly unremarkable. I definitely watched this movie in the past yet have not a single recollection of any scenes other than the beginning one.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a 2017 English-language French 3D space opera film written and directed by Luc Besson. It's better then most people give it cred for, too many people on the marvel band wagon, it is a good film.
