Do you have an email?
Is this a stepping stone for you? Also do you have to bathe the patients
Autism partnership foundation has a free 40 hour training online! If your company doesn’t provide training I recommend taking the free training
Do you gey a certificate for it and does ot expire ?
@@berealstar6435 yes you get a certificate. Your start and end day must be within 180 days. I completed their training in about 1.5 weeks and passed my test about 2 weeks ago
@@KristynaaYvette thank you ! Is the certificate still good after the 180 days
I find it hard to find someone to test with
@@berealstar6435 correct. I recommend using ABA rocks to study for the test too. They have RBT mock exams and it’s helpful because if you get a question wrong it explains the terms to you. I literally took the quizzes over and over until I was getting 100% on all of them. Then I went through the RBT checklist and made sure I understood all the terms

Thanks for this video! Lately I've been looking in to becoming a rbt and was kind of confused about the first step to take. I'm currently in school for social work and worked at a preschool for 5 years.
Glad you found this video helpful! Definitely just look for a job that has training or finding a 40 hour course , and that will get you started!
Thank you so much! Ive been a preschool teacher for 6 years working with all children of all ages and i love it. I want to go into this field because i do love working with children and thats what i see myself doing. but ive been so nervous... i have never worked with special needs kids. This video was so informative and helpful I feel like it has helped me a lot with uncertainties I've had with applying to be an ABA technician
That is so awesome to hear! I wish you the best on your journey!
I never finished with following through with the RBT exam 🤦🏽♀️🤣 but I did learn a lot doing this job for about a year.
There is a lot to learn with this job! But hey this also shows people that it can be done without the certification!
Thankyou so much for this video. Literally the most helpful video I’ve found so far.
So glad you found my video helpful! Thank you for watching!
what are some tips for an RBT interview because I have one coming up and i am honestly sooooo nervous...😓
I always tell my friends to have a great understanding of the definition of ABA. Be personable. And possibly an understanding of what behavioral impacts autism may have depending on where you are interviewing.
I would recommend prepping some answers for situational-outcome behavioral questions, like when was a time you had to overcome a difficult situation and what have you done to fix it. If you've worked with kids , showcase your highlights. Good luck!! I hope this helps!
@@dmarvel3474 I completely agree!
Thank you for giving so much important details as to what to expect in the field!
Awesome video! You told it how it is. Not an easy job but extremely rewarding. Hope you keep the videos coming!
Thank you! I will definitely continue rolling out RBT content!
Thank you so much! You have no idea how much you've just helped me. I'm extremely motivated to do this.
I'm on the spectrum and I want to inspire people that are going through hard times that they can do anything they put their minds to and that sometimes you have to be patient to get what you really want. I want to be an advocate for people with Autism and have a better understanding with it and help others that want answers. Thank you again!!!
This was so helpful! I start as an RBT in about two weeks! I’m going for my BCBA and have been making some videos about the journey!
Oh my how awesome! Best of luck on your journey! ✨
Goals🥰
I just had my final interview (minus the shadowing because there was not enough time, as it was an end of day) I'm hopeful that I can get the option as my family has always thought that I have signs but no actual diagnosis of autism.
Very realistic, informative, and direct. Thank you! I just applied to a position; fingers crossed!
Awesome video! Thank you for making this! I can tell that you’re very passionate about helping people and it’s amazing to see people like you in this field!
Thank you, that means so much!
LOVE THE DETAILS!! Thank you so much
I love you ❤ thank you so much for each video you create 🙏🏻
I’m a RBT and becoming a BCBAits the best thing I ever went through and I did it through my job inst as of school and the state.I’m a natural when it comes to me.. I have been working with kids since I was 17 and continued my career. I was not a license professional but I already knew what was expected and I am observant so I can tolerate working with kids in this gield. People think it’s okay ash but it’s only easy for those who are xperibced the life. If you never been around kids or went to school for psychology and think you can handle it most drop out and give up and it’s a commitment you need to step back to think would this be a good fit.
What’s the difference between a RBT & a BCBA?
Where can i get such opportunities in south africa? Im interested i have degree in psychology
Awesome and informative video. I’m about to apply to nursing school to after become a PMHNP. Thanks so much for the info!

I’m glad I found this video. I’m in undergrad for social science. I have certification as a RBT!
I loved this video! I’ve been considering getting into the behavioral/mental health field. Specifically I’ve been looking at becoming an RBT, but I’ve been kind of hesitant because I wasn’t sure to expect. I definitely feel like I know a little bit more now though. 🤗
Just found your video! I really appreciated your positive outlook but that you kept it balanced with the realities of the field. Super helpful, best of luck to you in your nursing program!
I want to work in a facility... school/clinic. Not a big fan of working at someone's home....
This video really helped me! I just got offered the job as a RBT! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
just starting this carreer! glad i found you chanel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love your honesty and vibe
Hey! I started like two weeks ago as a BT. I work at a home setting. The client didn’t have any toys or board games to work on goals with so I bought games and reinforcers. Does your company provide you with any of that stuff? Also … I definitely thought the BCBA would tell me exactly what to do for the goals but I realized I had to figure out like what games to play and think of the ideas. I was unaware that would be my role and I actually dislike that 😂 it takes my time outside of work that I was unaware of happening. Does any of this sound familiar and were there any things that you had expectations on that were different from your role?
At the time there were some techs that would purchase their own reinforcers to take to session but I did not. Most of my client's parents purchased reinforcers to use rather than the company. If i did have a client that actually asked me for something repeatedly I'd take it into consideration. I'd have to agree that I had the same surprise occur.
We are literally same person in career goals lol
I just have a BS in psych - going for BSN - applied to be a RBT for now (boo covid and nursing acceptance) and I want to go to grad school for PMHNP as well 😂
So I’ll be stalking your channel now lol
TWINSSSS!! Stay a while and keep me posted on your nursing updates!
Thanks so much for posting this! ♥️ praying this new opportunity works out! I think it’s gonna be so rewarding!
Your video helped me out SO MUCH. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the video!!

Some jobs offer training and assessment but I wonder if they will pay less compared to already have taken the 40 hour training with a private company
Most jobs for example will give you a sign on bonus if you already have the certification but it depends because for example in Northern California the competency assessment and training are a expensive.
@@elenamendoza5907 thanks for responding! I live in NY it's expensive as well however the Autism Foundation provides free RBT training only. I was thinking about taking that 40 hr course on my own then apply for a job and hopefully that will increase my chances of higher pay 🤷🏾♀️
I really disliked being an rbt did it for 5 years ! I can honestly say none of my co workers stayed
How do we get the channel you were watching for sign language?
I will be starting my 40 hour Trainning with a company in September. I wanted to know how long does it take to become a RBT, and what other careers can this lead to after certification.
Hello, I am a RBT it takes 2 weeks to get through training, you can study and have on the job training while youre in training. After you complete your training, you should be prepared to take your exam, The exam covers mostly scenarios, so learn the definition.
Mariam's response hits every point!!
Mariam Itani-Kashif
I do have the opportunity to start a 40 hour trainning now. Do you recommend I start that trainning or just wait. To do everything with the company. I can complete the 40 hour by September. When I spoke to the BCBA, She said I can do my competency with them and hands on trainning. Just need advice for those who already went through the process
Thank you!
@@sharifabrown59 congratulations on your job. I would recommend which ever is cheapest and most efficient, that means if your job offers to pay for all of your certifications, the rbt exam, rbt training, cpi, npi, then yes wait until your training begins. It will be worth the wait. My training was efficient, the bcbas and peer mentors quiz you and on the job training allows for a more knowledgeable comprehension of what you are learning from your 40 hour training. Keep in mind an rbt works mostly with children or adults with behavior needs or persons on the spectrum. The field of ABA can lead to a variety of careers you just have to look for what you want. 🤩🤩
@Mariam Itani-Kashif. Thank you for your
response so your saying just wait don’t take the free 40 hour trainning now.
My first day is tomorrow! So excited and nervous!!!
I hope you have a great first day!! Good luck!
How did it go?
@@beza7419 It was great I completed my 40 hours last week and this past week Ive been doing classroom training with my agency and I also got to meet my client yesterday! I observed him and a current RBT at the clients house yesterday and got to know him a bit before working with him!
Hi, I’m looking for some companies that are offering training but it is very hard to find companies that give this option. Do you have any tips on where I should look and how to know if the job offers training
I typically spend time hunting on indeed and glassdoor, it's usually listed in the job description next to salary, it should say "training or paid training included". Its pretty time consuming but I hope this helps. Sometime before I even start search i type in "RBT + Paid Training "
jackie reed try teampbs
Great video. I have a question. I started out as a Para which turned into a Comm Hab specialist and in search for better pay, I decided to get certified as an RBT. On paper all 3 of these roles seem VERY similar in demands. Do you also find that to be the case?
What if I only have a highschool diploma?? I cant afford college sadly
Thank you so much for this! I am seriously looking at this as a career move and this was helpful!
Thanks so much for this review, it was helpful. How did you feel about doing therapy in your clients home? I am worried about doing sessions during a pandemic and wondered if you had any advice...thank you!
For me, I was done by the time the pandemic started, but I remember my friends who were still working at the beginning saying that sessions were either halted or left up to the parents discretion. I think they've gone back fully with the intent of having safe socially distance sessions, but i'm not even sure how it is managed. I wish i could help more.
I,work in the mental health services and I want to become a RBT
Lol, you cracked me up about the family trips. 😆😆 God Bless You!!!
If I’d like to aim to be a BCBA, would it be helpful (or even imperative) to first work as a RBT? I’m thinking of trying to get a job as a RBT while I get my masters.
I would definitely recommend working as a RBT first or even as you're in a BCBA program. I definitely recommend it! It will really give you a much better perspective about the field of ABA therapy and the influence of a BCBA. It will also be helpful for understanding content in your courses and your job may even be able to provide you the BCBA supervisor hours you'll need before you're certified as a BCBA. I think its also very important to know the role of a RBT because you'll be their supervisor and you'll understand the ins and outs of the position.
@@TheDanielleDenise Wow thank you so much!! Yes that all makes sense to me. I feel like if I was an RBT, I'd want to work for a BCBA who'd been "in the trenches" so to speak. Thank you again!
You’re welcome! Best of luck on your journey! ✨
Do you know of a program that I can do to get this certification
Listening to the overview of the profession it sounds all the same . I've been working in mental health group homes for couple years now and personally I hear no differences. Can someone clarify for me what makes thins profession different from CNA and PCT ?
I now have experience in both roles and they are rather different. CNA's and PCT's are able to work in the hospital setting or home setting assisting with direct patient care working with nurses and other medical professionals. Just a few examples they take vital signs, help change patients' clothing and bedding, and if they're ever working with a psych patient in the hospital sometimes they're a sitter and they make sure they don't hurt themselves. Versus an RBT's sole focus is to implementing the BCBA's behavior analytic services. So RBT’s are observing behaviors, collecting data, and implementing any changes a BCBA makes for that clients plan
CNA’s and PCT’s chart on things that they themselves provided for their patients in one encounter/day. whereas RBT’s collect data on behaviors that their clients do and help the BCBA track how those behaviors change over months to years.
Now that's just a little dip into it. It's kind of hard to show you how different they are without being able to see them in action. There are similarities but they're very different.
@@TheDanielleDenise Thank you for the detail explanation. I was Skeptical about paying for the training but I think I’ll give it a try . I still have a year for my bachelors and I’ve been looking for something more flexible while finishing up .
Thank you for the informative video. Curious what's the average fee rate range for an initial assessment/reassessment for a BCBA and BCaBA? Much appreciated
hello! are you a Nurse? or a Psychology can become a Psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner?
Thank you so much for making this video! My long term goal is to apply to PA school but I am still in need of direct patient care hours. Do you think RBT would count as "direct patient care"? Thanks!
PA school are very particular, they look for things like EMT, patient care tech, medical assistant, all the way up to nursing and other healthcare careers.
From what I've seen some jobs want someone with a bachelor's, other jobs just require a high school diploma and maybe 1 year of experience working with kids. The pay does not seem worth it for somebody going to school for a longer period. To be honest it hardly seems like a livable wage in California.
Hi Danielle, how do I apply for the certificate? I am unsure if I am doing this right. I am just getting my foot in the door for this field.
Thanks for posting. I look forward to your future videos.

I have no background in that category honestly . I did some research of what the job consists but I’d like to hear your side about this job/career? Any advice? Pros. Any and ALL information would be great! I do want to still pursue a career in being a high school guidance counsler which is my dream career (I’ll be going to school for this too) my potential job will be paying for me to get certified and get a cpr certification too . Thanks! I have to do a 1 year contract.
I love paperwork, helping others, listening to people’s day and giving advice, office setting jobs, love school too .

hi please help me out... im gonna do a pg diploma course in autism and behavioural sciences.. do I have to do a rbt certification course post that or will I get a job right after the diploma course ?
Hello. What are good questions to ask during interviews for RBTs?
Where can I take the 40 training can you attach the link please .
It looks like the training isnt available anymore
Oh no! I hope jobs across the country open up more opportunities! I guess it depends on where you live.
The Danielle Denise I contact the Bcba department and they respond pretty fast. They are now delivering the training and test online. So I will start tomorrow
Can a BCBA become a psychiatrist Nurse?
i have a bachelors in psych and i start my absn in jan 2021, i am wondering how i would go about getting the certification or should i even get it ..because i do eventually want to be a PMHNP
You don't have to, especially if you're not going to work as a tech while in school. You're starting nursing school really soon and that will consume most of your time, next thing you know you'll be a nurse and working in the field and that will be that!
isn't it illegal to pay someone less than minimum wage unless they are in tips or commission based role?
Yes
I meet the requirements for this and I have an AAS in Admin Office but I was looking for certifications to get into but I wanted to know if you can become an RBT without a bachelors or anything like that?
I want to know if you are full time or part time and your experience with how you handle the balance between this job and going to school ! Help !
I did take some classes when I was working as a tech, and I had to really stress to my company how important it was to for me to have adequate drive time and time off for school. Once I started my nursing program I quit, not just because my program was in a different field but because of how rigorous my program is. I know of other people in my program who are techs and it's all about time management and your company being flexible, that goes for any job and any program. I hope this helps!
Great video, thank you.
Thank you so much, now I really feel motivated! lol! Question, once I become certified and get hired as a RBT, will I be working as an assistant to the BCBA?
RBTs arent assistants to BCBAs there is the BCaBA position. RBTs do implement plans made by BCBAs and do 1:1 therapy
Great question! So you will be implementing the interventions that the BCBA creates, you'll be working one on one with the BCBA. A BCaBA or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst would be their assistant, if they have one.
I didn't see that Nicole already covered it 💛🙌
Did the rules change? On bacb.com it says you only need a high school diploma to become a RBT, does it vary by state?
excellent summary, thank you
You're welcome!!
Hi! I’m new here and I’m currently in the training part to becoming a RBT. Can you be an RBT forever or is the point of being an RBT to advance to a BCBA?
Hi! Some of the people that trained me had no plans of becoming a BCBA and had been RBTs for over 15 years. Some people prefer that role, and still being able to work directly with the clients almost daily.
@@TheDanielleDenise thank you! I got a job as an RBT and was very curious.. I do plan on getting my masters🥰
Love this video!! I’m starting out In this career now. Also- where’s your hoodie from?!
Hey. Thanks for a great video. I'm really looking for in training job opportunities but no luck. Do yo have and suggestions for companies that do?
Barns obadiah most companies are local and all offer different opportunities. I’m not sure where you might live but be sure to check on indeed.com and look through job descriptions, it might take a while so you can also add ‘paid training’ or ‘in house training’ in the search bar when looking for jobs. ✨
@@TheDanielleDenise great . thanks for the insight🙏
Is a Registered Behavioral Tech the same as Behavioral Health Tech? Just confused because the registered part makes it sound more official
Not quite! In short Behavioral Health Techs work at mental health facilities, worth with people with various types of mental health disorders in the healthcare setting, and are certified through a different board. Registered behavior techs are certified through the BCBA to work with children with autism in a home or school setting. That's just the short form. You'd see behavioral health techs at a mental health hospital or in the emergency department and you may see RBT's working with kids out in the community.
@@TheDanielleDenise thank you for the clarity! ❤
awesome video!
Thank you!
