In the 1830's The Shell Trading Company began selling exotic sea shells. They imported tropical shells and sold them as shell bejeweled boxes and such. The importer (Marcus Samuel) was able to control the flow of shells and manipulate supply and demand. His son's inherited and began also selling kerosene and eventually the Shell Oil Company was born and still exists today. So MG2 using selling sea shells is amazing. (and also based on historical fact).

Ren is amazing at bringing light to this subject in a non-partisan manner. Uniting people under a flag for a shared responsibility for our earth and the possibility of creating a better world. All of humanity needs to unite for peace against fascism.

It’s not a continuous narrative as such, but expressions of the game. Art.
Part 1 all live, one shot. Part 3 all live (including the piano accompaniment, and strings( with one cut, as the camera moves behind the wheel chair right after Jimmy is paralyzed. Beyond all the other amazing lyric writing and acting he displays, the fact that these are live performances is mind-boggling.

You've definitely taken in the very best of Ren in the videos you've seen so far, but from here there are a dozen different directions you can go in. Check out his band The Big Push doing "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/HipHop", or Chalk Outlines (live) with Chinchilla for something very heavy, or Genesis for some rap. Still lots of Ren gold out there.
My presumption is that part 2 was the lyric video as we were all in lockdown through covid (and the short live version was just him and a friend on the beach when he could get out). I'm guessing he would have made a full live one for it if it was possible

Ren may use the line, "peaceful adolescent," either because it obviously fits the rhyme scheme, OR because it would not be unreasonable for Ren to feel as though, in some respects, he still could still see himself as somewhat of an adolescent because he didn't really get to live any of his 20's because of all of the Lyme's disease health problems that befell him. His 20's were essentially stolen from him by the illness. I dunno, just a thought I had. Love your commentary and reaction. Cheers and all the best.

Check out the making of Money Game 3. One thing that happened in #3 was the violinist accidentally got wet with corn syrup because it shows up better as water. Ren bought her a new bow.

As with many people, “That was unexpected,” will likely be spilling from your lips many more times as you said when you watched, ‘Hi Ren.’ And you are right about, “his own genre.” He continually surprises people with his never-ending genre-bending musical genius! He also seems to be a stellar human, perhaps a bit more enlightened than most people his age, which is currently 33 (since you asked). I believe Ren has mentioned that some of his recently released songs were written many years before he was able to complete them, due to his severely debilitating illness. I suggest you check out a few of Ren’s interviews along with his music. 💔❤️🩹❤️

The genius of that end section, where he recreates the chorus from the first 2 parts but without actually singing it. The 'rain rain rain rain' part is obvious, as he's literally being rained on but the entire chorus is in there too! Then you realise that the ending is also a summation of Jimmy's life, which makes Money Game 3 and Jimmy's life, an expanded version of the chorus from the first 2 parts! Ending on the line which immediately precedes the chorus in parts 1 and 2 is genius too. "With his finger on the trigger of the money game". There is no chorus for Jimmy...
I picked up on the name too. I've wondered if this is Screech but if he came from money and privilege instead. :)

Ren IS an amazing storyteller, teacher, philosopher, musician, poet, singer, rapper, producer actor. Basically ,all round genius, that’s more than evident! But .. he also has an wicked sense of humour. For a complete different vibe, you should react to some of his bangers. I’d suggest Losing it, Down on the Beat, Love Music (esp part 4)!

Loved your thoughtful and intelligent analysis. Ren is so good at stripped-down storytelling. Half an hour of video feels like a full 2hr movie with MG and the Tales.
It's not "made to look like one shot". It IS one shot. Most of Ren's live videos are recorded live, in a single shot, no cuts. They had to include a single cut in this video because the 'rain-machine' kept malfunctioning but the cut is much later in the video. Essentially, it's two one-shots put together. Hi Ren and each of the 3 Tales, were all recorded live, in a single take. As was the first Money Game and the live version of Money Game 2. Money Game 3 was going to be 1 shot too but they couldn't avoid having to make that single cut. :)

Absolutely love your reactions and style. In Money Game 3 it is all a one-shot, however, they had to cut the shoot at the wheelchair to get all the smoke out of the warehouse and because they could only do the rain scene once (else wait for the floor to completely dry; no time for that). They moved the lapel mic to the middle of his tie and tried to waterproof it a bit.

Really enjoying the format of your reactions. You clearly are appreciating the talent of Ren, and you verbalise yourself very eloquently. The most wonderful thing about Ren to me is his ability to make conversations happen, so your lyrics analysis interest me. I enjoy listening to others thoughts and opinions.
Something I found very interesting was the week leading up to the release on MG3 Ren and his team did a week “Money Game” with interactive games. I won’t go in to the brilliance of the whole concept, but it ended with some money being burnt. The comments went crazy, some outraged that he would burn money (money that could feed the starving, house the homeless etc) wanting to know if it was REAL money. To me that was the whole point….. it was literally just pieces of paper!
I think if you have the ability to open your eyes and minds, you respect Ren on a very different level.
Ren makes me “think” every single time.

I’m not religious, but Ren is like a new messiah… enlightening people and spreading such a positive message, and in such an entertaining manner, with his exceptional talent. People use the word “genius” far too freely but with regards to Ren, I think we can all agree, he really is.. a GENIUS!!!

Maybe I am wrong, but in Money Game 3 where Ren sings "27: Dealing nuclear and shells in Iran..." I think that might actually be a reference to money game 2, in the meaning of Jimmy being "a liar, a cheat, a devil, a whore, while he sells sea on a sea shore".
