Same here, I also do diy projects all the time, including jewelry making and sewing, so I knew about almost everything already. But their videos are always worth watching for me, it's so cozy and entertaining! I just wanted to add that for jewelry making getting a jump ring ring to open and close jump rings, without needing to use a second pair of pliers, is such a game changer, highly recommend! And there are also different sewing machine needles, like for knit fabrics.
as someone who has done a lot of bleach painting, the one safety precaution i never skip is glasses. i use a broken blue light blocking pair, but you could also use anything that shields your eyes. thats because the one thing you NEVER want is bleach getting into the bloodstream, and sometimes the bleach splashes and could potentially hit your eyes.
@@rainbowdragonwithcats fair! As someone who always wears glasses (for vision purposes) it didn’t occur to me to mention to also protect your eyes but yes - obviously please! Great tip 👍
I'm someone who Really loves the look of bleach shirts but has never done one before, and I had a question. When you're done and need to rinse the shirt, is there any specific way to do it? I'm worried that just throwing it in the washer or a tub of water will make the bleach smear or something before it rinses clean, but I've never seen anyone mention that lol. I may just be ✨paranoid✨ but yknow I don't wanna get done and then mess it up
@ in my experience (and as someone who has painted w bleach without it smudging), as long as you rinse it very thoroughly with lots of water , shouldn’t have any issues, the bleach takes a while to “set in” so a moment of watered down bleach touching the fabric while rinsing shouldn’t affect it - I personally just turn the shower head on and let it run over the shirt, (haven’t tried a bucket) and it works out fine :-) good luck!
@@Lotus-sp6cu i usually just rinse it in the sink, but i have an industrial sink. so the shower is definitely a more accessible option. some other tips are to make sure your using a clothing or hair bleach, some bleaches intended for cleaning dont remove color the same way
General tip on the Not having to remove pins while machine sewing: Always remove them!! its only asking for injuries and dulling your machines needle. especially if you use older pins that have been bent to hell and back. they can snap and fly to god knows where
This!! It can also mess up your sewing machines timing in a way that it won't do a nice stitch anymore or in a worse case scenario brake it. I don't get why even many really experienced sewists say that you can just sew over them, of course you yourself can do whatever you want but don't give bad and dangerous advice to beginners :(
A pinmaker is a damn game changer. They may cost some money, but it’s 100% worth it, you can make so many pins and basiclly Stick them on anything to make it really cool (also, you can literally express EVERYTHING about yourself with them)
For putting spikes on thin fabric finishing washers are a game changer. They look like little half bagels, the screw head sits inside, and they're stamped out of sheet metal so they're really lightweight. I've just seen these used with 1" and shorter spikes, no idea how they hold up on the longer ones. Learned from a punk kid one generation older than me that they'd go in communally on leather, tools and studs and sit around and make spike bracelets and such like ravers would eventually sit around and make kandy bracelets. The first punk house I lived in had a crafting corner made out of a breakfast nook with a bunch of stuff that belonged to the guy who first rented the apartment.

Another suggestion for using jewellery bits is boot chains and charms! I made mine after seeing the ones at the doc martin store and thinking I could make those for way cheaper. All you need is whatever kind of chains and/or charms you like, jump rings and lobster clasps. Just remember the clasps need to be around 20mm long to fit around your shoelaces without getting stuck! I’ve also seen boot charms that have a keychain ring to go through the fabric loop thing at the back of the boot tops, which are better for bigger charms.

This is a great video and you're a really good teacher! I've been sewing 40+ years and I still love seeing the creativity, especially on a budget. If I may, I have one suggestion for those who may not know already. Modern mechanical machines have a button to reverse stitch, computerized machines have a locking stitch. Rather than lifting the presser foot and manually moving the fabric back to lock the stitch, make 2-3 stitches and then hold your reverse button for 2-3 stitches, then continue sewing as necessary. You don't even have to stop sewing and it's a lot more efficient in the long run. Now I'm off to watch your videos on stencils. ☺️
happy 2025!!!! i was just bingeing all your lookbooks & closet tours to get inspired for the new year, i'm excited to see what new stuff you got in store
I love how genuine this video feels. Very informative and inspiring, and it feels real and tangible unlike a lot of other fashion videos I've watched that set high bars for skill or finances, even with thrifting or alt styles. This clearly feels like a topic you are passionate about and you've done an incredible job of explaining everything in a very manageable way. Thank you for sharing !

Very cozy and nice video, as always, I always love to watch all of ur videos! Since I'm very creative and crafty myself, I just wanted to add a few additional tips, for anyone interested, although it is very impressive how much u already covered, and explained very well! So for jewelry making getting a jump ring ring to open and close jump rings, without needing to use a second pair of pliers, is such a game changer, highly recommend! When taking in clothes, or sewing them generally, I recommend pinning them with safety pins, exactly where the seam is supposed to go, long side on the seam. It's a tiny bit more work, but it prevents u from stabbing urself by trying on. U can then either replace them with regular pins, or just sew slower and take them out while sewing. And there are also different sewing machine needles, like for knit fabrics. For trouble shooting work machine sewing, after rethreading, I highly recommend looking at ur machine manual (usually also available online), because different fabrics might require different tension settings and so on. So if ur thread keeps looping, or stitches are too tight, there usually is an easy fix, testing on the exact fabric ur using is always a good idea. I've recently bought a teflon sewing foot, which is perfect for slippery fabrics like crushed velvet, very helpful for even seams.

I've been interested in alt fashion what feels like my whole life, but I've never felt very comfortable going too far in the DIY pool bc I don't have anyone in my life that can teach me skills like sewing and lack the confidence to try to teach myself... but since I've been watching your videos I've started to gain a little confidence and am going to attempt my first alteration on a pair of plaid pants that I've had for ages... the fact that you're offering this resource and the info graphics for free is wild to me!!! Thank you for this super detailed video! I listened to this as a podcast since I already know most of the sewing I need for my projects, but I´ll definitely come back to this when I need something specific!
I just adore your videos! As a young alternative person myself, you are a huge inspiration towards me. I really love your creativity and skills. Keep being YOU!! 🖤
So much inspiration here! Because of this video I'm painting on some black + yellow accents onto this pair of white platform sneakers that I've had lying around for years. Was a pain to remove the one area of blue that I had painted on in the past but trucking now. Painters tape is a miracle worker: for curved areas smaller strips/cutting darts into the bottom of the tape (or area of the tape that isn't intended to "mark" your lines) makes it lay down a lot easier. Suede specific dye works the best for sneakers but I wanted to challenge myself to not buy anything new or specialty for most of these upcoming diys. So sandpaper + acrylics it is. (along with what other craft supplies I've collected over the years... trust me there's a ton) Might look into the textile medium tho... thats a game changer. Super "secret" tip: you can "dye" things with watered down acrylic + touch of fabric paint. Did this years ago for a custom furby and its so watered down that it doesn't change the texture of things but you won't get complete coverage if you are brushing the mix into furs however it works wonderful for more closer weaved fabrics (worked on the inner ears/feet of the furb well) Only caution about it is it might bleed over time but rising out the excess helps a lot with that.
Tip for threading a needle while stereo blind/ unable to see in 3D: try to hold your thread between your fingernails and your needle at a 3/4 view with the closed side towards the eye you don’t use. This will help with gauging where in space you are. I also use dental floss because it has a broad and a small side, which also makes it easier. The small side should be at the top. :)
thank your for the machine sewing section! i keep giving up when i watched tutorials because i get overwhelmed by all the technical things i dont understand, so its very appreciated to have a more relaxed tutorial :DD
I’ve used the synthetic dye without the constant heat because I didn’t have access to a large enough pot and it turned out fine but yeah it definitely works better with a constant temperature lol

thank you for continuing to help me get ideas and inspiration! i know most of the basics and have a sewing machine, but i haven't really gotten to alter my clothes because i'm scared of not liking the results. but i think i'm gonna get started on it with thrifted items! i also got a pin maker for my birthday, so i can finally add a bit more personality to my stuff without altering it!
This is super comprehensive and thorough and i really appreciate it cause it must have taken so much work. Even the way you organised the video and made those reference sheets wow! I feel really inspired to start my diys again!❤
So excited for another DIY video. These always give me such cozy feelings and i definitely need it rn. Curled up in bed not feeling great because I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant, so this video is keeping me company ❤
For painting I use the method of acrylic paint with fabric softener and it has worked quite well for me, haven’t had the problem of having to touch it up at all You can get cheap acrylic paint and fabric softener which is what I did and I’ve had no problems
Thank you for the video! I need to find ways to integrate more DIY into my style. I do have a patch jacket I wear to concerts and clubs (inspired by your video, thank you!), but the rest of my style is probably best described by "goth, but the vampire decided to be a math professor in the 60s/70s". I really want to add more alternative edge to my outfits, without also losing that elegant last-century-academia vibe. Heavy boots and jewelry help and I've added some lace-charms to the boots and grommets to my pants, but something is still missing... Also thanks for putting the resources into the description 🐈

Gods I wish I had all these three years ago when I decided to start dressing alternative I did get lots of inspiration (like the how to dress alt in the winter) from you tho!!
Two sided tape was good for stencils but that stuff is hard to find. I usually use a pins and a tacking border and spray paint or plintor but if I use plintor it needs a a seal for water proofing the best is wood finish.😮

Note about jump rings: You should close them slightly past what's actually "closed" because they will spring back slightly! You do it in the video but it's very subtle and idk, someone who's very Brand New might not think to do it and accidentally end up with half-open rings :P (also this video is a great resource! thank you for taking the time to put everything in one place for folks!)
@@RattusRattus Also a life hack for clumsy people ig: I had to start putting binder rings on some of my chains bc they love getting caught in bus seats and I was tired of trying to fix normal jump rings in public lmao 😭

I’m trying to get into what styles make me happy and comfortable while I can since I love scene/mall goth/2000s rave/gyaru and shojo (anything that looks baggy as well) but it feels weird since I don’t have as much money or materials to make *new* pieces so the smallest change is cut the neck hem off and say “I did something” Where I live, I can’t really find great thrifts besides jewelry, bags, or old sweaters without traveling almost 45 to an hour away from home :( So watching this I hope I can achieve some smaller changes into my clothes with what little I have in my account or in my own closet as well as using my aunts sewing machine for once… It’s been in the hall closet for a while 😭
I’m just now getting into alt n scene or like a mixture and this is really helpful cuz I read that the whole thing of alt is to be really hands-on with clothing rather than buying it premade. But idk if I’m right abt tho LOL

Keep doing what you do Rabbit, you're inspiring a whole lot of people, not just me! 💜
@@AshleyIsArtsy 🥺🥰🥰🥰 this means so much to me!!!! Thank you for the kind words and I wish you all the luck and joy in your future DIYs!! I’m so happy this could be a helpful resource ❤️❤️❤️
Wow!! This video seemed to cover a lot. ☺️ I really luved the part on how to thread a bobbin. This has always intimidated me, my thread always seems to get tangled. Thanks for taking the time to create such an awesome video. Happy New Year!!!🎉
32:26 Buying a rotary cutter changed my life! It's so much easier to cut fabric if you have arthritis or other joint/tendon issues.
This couldn’t have come at a better time, thank you!!🙏
honestly the best video about diy clothing i've ever seen. extremely underrated
ONE HOUR AND A HALF 🔥🔥🔥
I have a week until uni starts again and I'm gonna spend it starting an unreasonably large project!!!
Aww, that's so sweet! Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE this video! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for in order to give me the boost to start making all the stuff I want
Yay, that’s great to hear! Good luck with your DIYs! :^)
I love you so much for everything about this video omg 😭 I’m autistic so the index detail was amazing for me
Tip for threading a needle while stereo blind/ unable to see in 3D: try to hold your thread between your fingernails and your needle at a 3/4 view with the closed side towards the eye you don’t use. This will help with gauging where in space you are. I also use dental floss because it has a broad and a small side, which also makes it easier. The small side should be at the top. :)
This may be my favorite video on the internet ever :) literally watching this while embroidering patches for my backpack
thank your for the machine sewing section! i keep giving up when i watched tutorials because i get overwhelmed by all the technical things i dont understand, so its very appreciated to have a more relaxed tutorial :DD
I’ve used the synthetic dye without the constant heat because I didn’t have access to a large enough pot and it turned out fine but yeah it definitely works better with a constant temperature lol
oh my gosh i found your channel like 2 or 3 years ago and havent watched alot sinice- youve grown so much with your channel omg!!!
omg thats my bird lady patch! 1:05:55 im so honoured to be here
@@chokecherrywitch omg hi!!! I love that design so much it’s so goood!!! My boyfriend gave it to me as a gift it’s good to know the artist !!! Please feel free to link your IG/shop/etc!! ❤️❤️❤️
FIRST RABBIT VID OF THE YEAR! Do I already do alt DIY? Yes. Am I gonna watch it anyway? Also yes. Also! You’ve really got me back into thrifting, I found this HUUGE charity shop and the clothing is SOOOO well priced and I’ve found some absolute STEALS! I’m now doing a wardrobe rotation when I get bored 🖤
Yay!! So happy to hear that :D
This is the first time I've commented on your videos but I love your videos so much. You're a big inspiration for me. You and a bunch of other lovely crafty RUclipsrs are inspiring me in how I want to make my crafting corner this year. We just moved into a new place which we are going to completely renovate and my fiancé and I are going to make a craft corner with clothing and jewelery DIY and war gaming crafting stuff.
This video is perfect for me starting to dream about what I want in my craftinf corner and how to start making goth DYI and hobbit cosplays :3
Thank you for being awesome, Rabbit (hope I spelled your name right)
Thanks!

I am enjoying this video so much! It is exactly what I need. Thank you for all the content and Thank You for sharing your precious authentic self.
ive been handsewing all my patches and alterations for years and recently got a sewing machine. none of the videos made any sense but yours was so straightforward and helpful. thank you so much for this video I'm really excited not to be slouching and hand stitching hems for hours and hours
I'm so glad you found the video helpful! Happy sewing!🥰🥰🥰
thank you for continuing to help me get ideas and inspiration! i know most of the basics and have a sewing machine, but i haven't really gotten to alter my clothes because i'm scared of not liking the results. but i think i'm gonna get started on it with thrifted items! i also got a pin maker for my birthday, so i can finally add a bit more personality to my stuff without altering it!
the amount of work you put in this video is impressive ! it is such a great overview of diy stuff and it's great for inspo as well
@@peppergims2856 genuinely thank you so much for this comment it means a lot ❤️
OMG thank you so much for the shoutout at the end. Also, love this video, I've saved it for later project inspiration
Your diy videos are always really inspiring
This is super comprehensive and thorough and i really appreciate it cause it must have taken so much work. Even the way you organised the video and made those reference sheets wow!
I feel really inspired to start my diys again!❤
I appreciate that so much! Good luck on your DIYs :)
Thank you for all your help!! Your previous videos are what inspired me to do my first diy on a bag I found that needed an update - much love
I'm so glad!
I'm sewing my handmade patches on my jacket, inspired by you ❤
@@sleepyspacegremlin 🥺🥰❤️ that is so cool! Happy sewing!
So excited for another DIY video. These always give me such cozy feelings and i definitely need it rn. Curled up in bed not feeling great because I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant, so this video is keeping me company ❤
I’m so glad to hear it - I hope you feel better soon! (And congrats on the pregnancy - hope it goes as smoothly as possible! 🥰❤️)

i got about 5 minutes into this video and just looking at ur patches gave me an idea!
@@olioccasionallyanimates27 yay! So happy to hear that :D
For painting I use the method of acrylic paint with fabric softener and it has worked quite well for me, haven’t had the problem of having to touch it up at all
You can get cheap acrylic paint and fabric softener which is what I did and I’ve had no problems
Happy new year Rabbit! 🎉🎊 So excited to watch the video!
AHHHH this is AMAZING. Love the Video and well... YES
I love-love your videos and diys ❤❤❤
You really helped a lot. Thank you so much, I want to dress alternative, I don't know where to begin and your videos are so helpful for my first steps🖤🖤
hello i just wanted to say that you and content you make makes me so happy ToT love ya
this was great to watch while working on a sewing project for school!! (entered a competition with friends where you have to craft an outfit using only usef clothes :3). it's not TOO alt bc i had to compromise with friends but still!! :D (and i have evil plans to prep an outfit for this ball thing (kinda like junior prom probably), especially making the plain corset fancier SO THANKS FOR THE INSPO >:33)
Gods I wish I had all these three years ago when I decided to start dressing alternative I did get lots of inspiration (like the how to dress alt in the winter) from you tho!!
Two sided tape was good for stencils but that stuff is hard to find. I usually use a pins and a tacking border and spray paint or plintor but if I use plintor it needs a a seal for water proofing the best is wood finish.😮
using the thing from the back of an earring to keep badges on clothes is so smart
Thank you for sharing this. There are a lot of younger goths (and even older goths) who don't know how to do a lot of these things. Thank you for this. -Vyvyan Wormwood
Thanks, Vyvyan! Glad to hear it may be useful! 🖤
aaa new rabbit video!! highly pertinent & helpful as always
Happy new year!! And thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰
Note about jump rings: You should close them slightly past what's actually "closed" because they will spring back slightly! You do it in the video but it's very subtle and idk, someone who's very Brand New might not think to do it and accidentally end up with half-open rings :P
(also this video is a great resource! thank you for taking the time to put everything in one place for folks!)
@@gearandalthefirst7027 totally fair - good tip and thank you for clarifying! (Also thanks for the kind words it means a lot)!
@@RattusRattus Also a life hack for clumsy people ig: I had to start putting binder rings on some of my chains bc they love getting caught in bus seats and I was tired of trying to fix normal jump rings in public lmao 😭
It’s so fantastic!! 😊🤟🏾🖤🐈⬛🦇📱
and they said arts and crafts wasn't fun anymore. This seems fun as heck. Cool tips and tricks, def seems like it shouldn't be too dfficult
This is truly excellent information. Thank you.
This video is really cool for beginners! It would be really cool to see some intermediate designs for inspiration for those who want to challenge themselves, just an idea.
@Tenshi_Piero check out my channel playlists for DIYs- there should be lots of inspo there :-)
Wow this is incredible, thank you sm for the inspo lol
Oh I love your video about you make clothes photos, sewing, and other more. I saw sewing machine at store there are different kind of sewing. It’s expensive. But I love it crafts. 12:38 PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE MENTION 🪠🪠🪠🪠(fantastic video btw!!!!)
I’m trying to get into what styles make me happy and comfortable while I can since I love scene/mall goth/2000s rave/gyaru and shojo (anything that looks baggy as well) but it feels weird since I don’t have as much money or materials to make *new* pieces so the smallest change is cut the neck hem off and say “I did something”
Where I live, I can’t really find great thrifts besides jewelry, bags, or old sweaters without traveling almost 45 to an hour away from home :(
So watching this I hope I can achieve some smaller changes into my clothes with what little I have in my account or in my own closet as well as using my aunts sewing machine for once… It’s been in the hall closet for a while 😭
I’m just now getting into alt n scene or like a mixture and this is really helpful cuz I read that the whole thing of alt is to be really hands-on with clothing rather than buying it premade. But idk if I’m right abt tho LOL
Truly magnificent work rattus
Love this :D
