A landmark moment in Canadian history that forever changed this country! The scale and ambition of it was so unbelievable that it literally changed the world's view of Canada, and Canadians toward their own country. To this day it remains the largest cultural/artistic event ever held in North America. Great reaction!

Very little of Expo survived as most of it was meant to be temporary. The island still exists (site of the annual Canadian Grand Prix), as does Habitat 67 (that residential complex made of blocks), the French pavilion is now a casino, and the US pavilion (geodesic dome) exists as a shell. It caught fire in 1976 so all that remains is the metal skeleton of the dome. Nice that they kept it as is though.

Canada has had only 2 World Fairs. Expo 67 in Montreal and Expo 86 in Vancouver. I was fortunate enough to go to the Vancouver one and it was absolutely amazing and very futuristic. If you want to know about different cultures, clothing, foods, etc then you should look up Folkorama which is held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They have multiple county Pavillions that show off their cultures. I have gone to a few as a kid. When I was an early adult I went to a similar one called Mosiac in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
You mentioned that people should go out and see the world and I can tell you Canadians are very curious about visiting new places around the world. When one Canadian tells another Canadian about their experience and trip to a new place which was fantastic then it will spread like wildfire. Before you know it that area will end up having a Canadian Invasion of tourism. Word of mouth here in Canada to places travels fast and if an area is well enjoyed and liked you will see a return in Canadians.

World's Fairs still occur but honestly I've absolutely never heard of them, like they just had one in Dubai that ended in March and it's scheduled in Argentina in 2023 and Japan in 2025. Even to us in Montreal, Expo 67 is slowly becoming a memory of a time long gone where Montreal held a higher status among Canadian cities, a bit like what you would think today of Toronto, a growing prosperous economic landmark. I'm sure if you asked kids in school, even in college, few have probably much knowledge of what holding a world fair meant to the city or what it was about. The island itself is the biggest legacy, being a large park where festivals are held all summer. Given the chance I'd definitely be curious to go to a world fair, see what it's like, the main idea is to showcase what every country has achieved and share some of its culture, which as you said is not something the general public is normally inclined to research out of pure curiosity. But for those that are curious, the city does have archives about it, and documentaries have been made but being a French speaking city most of the material found about it even online are in French. But thanks to reacting to this video, I think it gave a good sense of what it was about :)

I was fortunate to be able to go twice when I was 13, once with school and once with scouts. Just wish I could have spent more time there, it was great.

If you go back to one of your heritage minutes they briefly mentioned the man made island and this was it. They got the land and dirt from the metro/subway they were building. Today the site is an amusement park. One of the few surviving pavilions is the American globe only the frame survived after a fire.
During the summer they hold outdoor music concerts and festivals as well as the International Fire Works competition as well as smaller events. On the adjacent island they hold the formula one race every June and once the race is done you can walk around and enjoy nature
The World's fair was a common event, if I'm not mistaken Atlanta had one sometime ago but these days I haven't heard of any.
Thank you for the video of my home town

Toronto is the most culturally diverse city in the world, reflected in some of its unique neighbourhoods. It's like going to the World Fair everyday downtown.

In Winnipeg we have a festival called Folklarama annual. Winnipeg has a population of about 750, 000.. Participants are assigned a venue, called a pavilion. It could be a community centre church hall etc. Even for our small city, 40 different countries are represented. It runs for two weeks. Half the pavilions the first week and the second half on week two. When you enter a pavilion you are in that country….you eat their food watch their dances and entertainers and can by souvenirs from that country. These are all run by volunteers of the ethnicity of their country. You learn different cultures and histories. Many parts of Canada have similar festivals that celebrate the diversity of our country.

I believe one of the reasons, they are not the big spectacle they used to be; is the immense cost to the host city, and some were large financial failures. I went to the Seattle World’s Fair that saw the introduction of Seattles Space Needle. It was fabulous visiting all the various pavilions.

The expos still do happen, but honestly, nowadays it's kinda pointless with all the information about the world at ones fingertips. It must've been very different in the 19th century when they came up with this, when the peak of technology was the telegraph and steam locomotive.
