  • A demonstration of the Pre-tension load of the PrePoMax pre and post-processor for the CalculiX FEM solver. The limitation of the Calculix solver to correctly support only the prismatic 3D finite elements in the pre-tension section is bypassed by inserting a prismatic boundary layer.

    New version ? Awesome, I couldn't wait. This software is hands down the best of its kind. Finally someone made user-friendly pre- and postprocessor for Calculix which is really powerful solver.

      Thank you. I agree, the CalculiX solver is really amazing.

    This is a very clever feature, the software becomes more and more interesting

    Great video dear Matej! And what a nice trick for correcting the pre-tension effect, I didn´t use it a lot due to this "missalignment" of the shank. Has to analize serioulsy this video. Thanks!

      I think it is a great solution if you know the pre-tension force.

    Many thanks for sharing such great software. did you also provide the manual for this software ?

    Prepomax is such an good looking tool and has been great in my testing for structural analyses. Do you anticipate ever adding thermal analysis capability?

    • @MatejBorovinsek

      It will be added in the next release v1.1.0.

    Hi Matej first of all congrats for your work! Then .. I'd have question .. Do you think to work on explicit dynamics problems in the future? I am in particular interested on sheet metal forming simulation.

      Yes. The support for the dynamic analysis will be added but I cannot say when this will happen. Until then I recommend using the CalculiX keyword editor inside PrePoMax.

    Matej, PrePoMax is an amazing software, thank you! A question on theory: could you explain (or help me find a reference about) why inserting a prismatic boundary layer helps sorting out the akward displacements? Also, what would you suggest to do in cases where after the boundary layer has been inserted stress concentrations appear in it. Thanks!

    • @MatejBorovinsek
      @MatejBorovinsek  Год назад

      In the CalculiX manual, under pre-stressed load, there is a sentence about the internal surface on which the load can be applied. It is written something like that it only works in cases where nodes of the internal surface belong only to elements that also have one face on the internal surface. The stress concentrations in such regions are usually the result of the applied simplification and, as such, can be neglected. For further questions, it is better to use the PrePoMax forum: prepomax.discourse.group/

    How do I remove the "boundary layer"? The layer cannot be seen in the project tree?

    • @MatejBorovinsek
      @MatejBorovinsek  3 года назад +1

      The boundary layer is not regarded as a feature and that is why it is not in the tree. It is regarded as part of a mesh. So the get rid of it you have to remesh the model. If you do not have many features in the model you can also try Edit -> Undo.

    Of open source software available, there is a real need for FEA of Composite laminates. Or at least support for Anisotropic materials.
    Code_Aster seems it may have this functionality but your need a degree in computer science to obtain and configure all the programs to make it functional.
    It seems Most computer guys are terrible structural engineers and most structural engineers don't want a free orphan linux program that requires intermediate coding ability just to see if a fiberglass fishing pole will bend or break.

    • @MatejBorovinsek
      @MatejBorovinsek  2 года назад

      So you suggest that support for anisotropy and composite laminates is a missing feature?
