RESPECT. No skaters talk about this. Very few will live off the money they are making now, of course your Prods and Nyjahs won't have aproblem, but 90% will struggle later in life
They even struggle as Pro's most of them with not enough money. Sell product to help top up the bills but I will give it to a lot of the skaters now are becoming very business smart and investing.
@@Truesk8er1 That beer company was a great success Archer? They did well out of that. I was super stoked for Bryan Herman for making some good money and coming from nothing.
As a surfer this hit hard too, when you get older n have to surf less because of whatever reason... it hurts. Skating must hurt even worse seeing all the street spots. This show helps skaters, surfers ext... more then they understand I think So sik the nine club rules
What is being said here in this episode applies to many young people that retire early in life. Weather its by choice or not. I had to medically retire from my job due to a work related injury after 23 yrs. It is very difficult to figure out what to do next. Especially if you have kids and trying to take care of a family. You often think, what is your purpose now? Can totally relate to this video. As for being a sk8ter? Once a sk8r always a sk8r.....👍😎
As an aspiring entrepreneur and an older skater, this had to be my favorite podcast. I’m trying to find new professional ventures and hearing his side of things was great. Thanks nine club and thanks Mikey for being an inspiration man!
Hell yeah, and much success and best of wishes to you bro 🏄🏿♂️🏄🏿♂️ You'll ALWAYS have your foot in the industry that way, it's a way to still remain skate oriented in your later years. Well shit, then again you didnt say your entrepreneurship will be slanted to the skate industry, but still, best of wishes. Lol
43 and still skating somehow. In so much pain with my ankles from old injuries that I couldnt sleep the other night. Was sat in a chair next to my bath at 3am with my feet in it soaking in boiling hot water, smoking a joint. ......this day is on its way one day unfortunately 😢
.. I am older than you already.. not far but a year. Just do more sports supporting your skating and you are in no problems. Do some Yoga, do some weights specifically to skate better. Check out the channel and page "the daily push" for example for tips. And.. why do you soak your feet in hot water unless it is muscle pain? That is exactly the wrong thing to do :) And muscle pain just means you can easily bypass that by staying fit outside of skateboarding which supports your skating
I had Perthes disease in my hips as a child. It has unfortunately set me up for my body failing early 😟 The worst affected hip is my left. I'm a regular skater and have taken many slams on this side making it worse. It is my flip foot also, obviously, and I do struggle with tricks lately as my leg doesn't seem to do quite what I tell it to sometimes and kicks out slightly wrong. I don't know how else to explain it.....and before anyone says "just skate switch" getting airborne off of that leg is a task! 😂 The strength in it is going and I find it difficult to lock my nose in on ledges lately. Some old surfer friends of mine, RIP Tommy ❤, had me surfing and downhill skateboarding at 50mph years ago so if I can't street skate anymore perhaps I can still get my kicks elsewhere 😊
Mikey is exceptionally smart, insightful and verbally capable person for a skateboarder. I see no problem of him succeeding in whatever craft or business he decides to engage into. Remember seeing him first time in és germany tour vid(2001?) and it opened my eyes how such young dudes like him and P-Rod were on off-continent tour with adult pros. Honestly wish him all the best!!
Although I never was pro, I had a really similar relationship with skating, but it happened in my early to mid 20s. Once I felt like I was falling out of my prime I started pursuing something else I wanted to do my whole life. I'm thankful I went through this at 22, and not 32, like I am now. Mikey is a solid man who loves his family and provides. Nothing but respect.
I used to skate every day but, now that I’m 29 and with everything going on in life as well as just how the body ages after 20 years of skating. I can say it really hits different when you can’t go skate like you used to or as much as you wish you can.
damn fr skaters back then should’ve had a lot of help for there financial future just sad how it’s now considered a Olympic sport knowing back then it would’ve been a huge blessing
mikey talking like he was forced to never skate again. Just because you ain't pro anymore doesn't mean you have to quit. Go fucking skate if that's what you're actually about. Tony Alva is 63 and still skating so it's not like mikey is too old skate.
Skaters and honestly Pro Wrestlers are in that same bubble where they believe that their purpose is either skating or wrestling but once that dream or passion is gone or even taken from you, they don't seem to have a plan B prepared. They just try to get back into it or do something along the lines of them when in reality they don't have a lot of things going for them or have other skills for another potential career path. It's a harsh reality at times. I don't think Chris and them don't fully understand that yet because it hasn't happened to them....yet.
There's still a big difference if your a pro wrestler nowadays I personally think your better off than being a pro skater because skating is waaaay harder and it's easier to make money if your in wwe or aew cuz your guaranteed to get 300,000 to over a million a year plus whatever you make from merchandise and you could possibly be in movies since acting is apart of wrestling. Not everyone can be the rock but I mean there's a huge difference in the money you'd make during your career
Yea mikes still skating for fun but it’s like a few times a month compared to all the time 🙂 I just know by his insta graham and other pros insta graham accounts seeing them skate there private parks etc
Now what do they consider your end? Because I don't consider myself retired or done from skating even though I only skate maybe 3 or 4 times a month. Is Mikey like totally off a board not touching one at all anymore?
Ya 9-5’s suck. Haven’t skated since I was 16. Being 6”5 and 240lbs on a board don’t work lmao. At least I have these clips to watch while I’m sitting at my desk.
Did he just visit some motivational speakers or is he on pair with Scientology.. almost sounds like Scientology. Not only here but on his daily instagram posts he sounds a lot like
My current opinion, Mikey Taylor did the most annoying tricks to watch, was it his friends told him front side is better than back? Idk but ill do my research! I hope I end up a fan which I should have been years ago, considering he’s been a household name since day one.
born 2 shit forced 2 wipe well I’m 99.9% sure he was the first dude to do front shuv to front crook on a ledge in DVS’ Skate More vid(in a line no less)...to this day it’s a very difficult and rarely seen trick, pretty groundbreaking if you ask me 🙂

Such a real conversation. Mikey Taylor will always remain one of the best styles!
Glad to hear Mikey is doing great. I hope a lot more skaters find a way to keep themselves supported and happy after skating.
