  • I needed to do a lot of stapling, so I got myself a new stapler, the Milwaukee M12 Stapler. Is it any good?

I love mine. Its just way easier than a bump stapler or a hand stapler. Also the big 6.0 batteries are utterly unnecessary. The 2.0 battery is literally all you need and it will run all day

I own this and if you actually hold the tool flat on the surface you will find it sinks flush into remu and all other woods with no issues. Bump fire will always cause staples to stick out as your rushing and its never flat on surface

Though that's true, a well-designed tool should accommodate the user, not the user a tool. They are welcome to integrate a proxyimity sensor into their next iteration. (Button? Light sensor? I won't care.)

I have had one for a while. I got it mainly for house wrap building papers. Does the job. Just watched you with the strapping. What a great idea. Is that common practice in NZ. Never seen that done in Oz. But it might be now.

I like mine, it is a handy unit. I have found that it's a good idea to match the staple to the job, I like the ones with pointed legs, I think the arrow staple number is 506 for the 3/8. They tend to sink better, and the adjustment on the spring doesn't have to be maxed out. Don't really need super long staples for vapor barrier and plastic anyhow.

I used to want to buy it but didn't have m12 batteries and a new line is not cheap enough for only one tool, so luckly roybe makes 18v staplers which can be used through adapters. I guess they are made pretty similarly.

The old 18v makita one works really well, I think it fires much faster and harder than this Milwaukee one. I don’t own one of the makita 18 volt staplers but I did use one in my high school shop class, the teacher bought it because it was very reliable, we already had the batteries, and the safety mechanism is impossible to bypass without shooting a staple through your finger. You can imagine that the last one is pretty important to have, you don’t want the kids taking the class shooting nails and staples at each other. The only thing that I don’t like about it is the cost, it’s about $250 US tool only.

The Makita is MUCH more powerful and consistent. It's the one case where they are ahead of the pack on traditional stapling/nailing replacements.

Since I am on the M12, Ridgid, and Ryobi platforms I’m torn between which of the staplers they offer. They all have almost identical specs so it’s hard to decide which one is best. All reviews I’ve watched don’t seem to give a clear nod to anyone of them in particular. Great review and Merry Christmas!

The 18v Makita is "better", but totally awkward for a t-50 stapler. I keep forgetting to grab the Milwaukee. They both sink them in better than manual + a fatigued user. 'Murican builders are going to prefer the hammering style but...been there...I'm good.

I was disappointed it dont hotbthe staples in flush, even on the deepest setting. The setting wheels makes little difference and is not easy to use, plus takes a while to wind it from max to min, not a very well designed feature for such a top named brand. It is nice to use but the features are very basic and only diy grade. The big minus for me was it cant hit staples flush consistently. I paid £99 in uk and it's not worth that. Milwaukee pull your finger out

The DST221 is much larger and a lot heavier and shoots much longer staples.
