If you want to go just a little further back with a lot of the same core. They lost in the conference final in 2010-11 season in 7. These boys have been knocking on Lord Stanley's door for the last 10 years. Good to see them finally get it done
I’ve been saying all playoffs that Yanni Gourde plays every shift like he could be cut the moment he hits the bench. The man doesn’t know how to turn it off and it’s super fun to watch.
Technically, the Lightning were a blue and white team playing home games in Toronto, but the illusion kinda fails when we realize it was the playoffs. I kid, I kid!
There were 24 teams in this playoffs, playing a compressed playoff schedule with more back to backs in the history of playoff hockey. Most of the time teams only had 1 day of rest in between games. The playoffs this year were the hardest to play and the hardest to win. The Tampa Bay Lightning are champions of champions.
Not to mention the teams coming into this were mostly all healed up and ready to go, meaning at the beginning of it most teams didn’t have any key injuries holding them back once the tourney started. Lightning were without their captain for the entire tourney and still took it home.
i lost my mind. i cried. i am so happy for the boys. for cooper, stamkos, kucherov, hedman, point, vasilevskiy, gourde, mcdonagh, everyone. i’ve loved this team since khabibulon. i was happy, in disbelief and everything around that. i cried tears of joy. like a relief because i knew how much they needed it.

Feeling pretty happy right now as a family we cheer for the Bolts so it was awesome to finally see them get the cup, you’re so right, it does feel like the best team doesn’t usually win but this year it feels different The team that people thought deserved to win, won. It was awesome watching each guy lift the cup, we seem to love every single player on this team and the guys that were picked up brought us from a physically gifted team, to a mentally tough group of guys all committed to a single goal. Every guy we picked up was exactly what we needed to take us to that next level of competing. So happy for all of them!
Dude, they’re the time-travelling Capitals of two years. Have a good regular season team for years. (Like nearly a decade) Stock up on talent and blow it (Caps ‘17; Bolts ‘19). Scale down on talent and add hungry sandpaper types= win the thing (Caps ‘18; Bolts ‘20).
I'm a very sad Stars fan. Congratulations Tampa, you were the best team without a doubt. I don't think we would have won the finals but I would have felt a lot better with penalty killers Hintz, Comeau, and Faksa being in. Dude!! The kid is adorable! Can't believe how big he is! Looks like you're enjoying fatherhood. That's just awesome. Keep the good vibe going! Wish much happiness to your family.
The one bright spot I take from this as a Stars fan is the great play from the young players on this team throughout the playoffs. The one down spot I take from this postseason is that Stamkos scored more goals in 3 minutes of play than 20 million dollars worth of Benn and Seguin scored in 6 games.
Lightning fan here, you guys put up a helluva fight. If the puck bounces a different direction just a few times, Dallas wins it. You guys played hard, the Lightning just had more in the tank
I feel for Rick Bowness too. He has been in the league a LONG time and still no cup. He was with the lightning for 5 years, must be a weird mix of emotions for him.
Hahaha! Love the baby update. Great recap video, and great analysis. Have to say it was incredible to see us win the cup again. I grew up in Tampa, playing in the original lightning practice facility, attending games with my family... And I’ve witnessed us with the Cup once before, and lose it in the finals. So this was beautiful to watch. They really punched it out in game 6. Super proud of the team, especially given the circumstances. Don’t know how anyone would call this “easier”. If anything, it’s MORE difficult to win a cup under these circumstances. The pandemic has inflicted immense psychological pain on the world, and you can’t perform your best when your brain is fatigued. Congrats again to our Bolts, and thank you for the great videos!
16:47 for those of u who don't get the joke or are too young to remember what happened the last time Tampa won the cup here it is. In 2003-04 the lightning won the cup against Calgary (Iginla's only cup appearance *crying emoji*). what happened in 04-05? SEASON LONG LOCKOUT!
Thanks for this breakdown, and for being such a great spot of entertainment and brightness during this time in our lives! Keep up the great work! And, as a proud Tampa Bay fan? GO BOLTS! WE ARE THE THUNDER!!!
On one hand, I’m incredibly proud of my Stars & the fight they showed all postseason. On the other hand, it’s hard to see how Tampa absolutely manhandled us (injuries aside) & not get discouraged. Just feels like we have a ways to go.
Matt, look at it this way. As a Tampa Fan, most of the past history of our sports teams -- Buccaneers mostly, but the Lightning too -- has been an embarrassment of loss-over-win tragedy. It took us YEARS to finally get into contention for our respective championships, which makes it all the more sweeter when we do win (Bucs in 2003, now Bolts in 2004 and 2020). Dallas has nothing to be ashamed of! You guys played with guts and determination, in spite of injuries! Plus, you guys have hoisted Lord Stanley's hardware before -- 1999, if I recall right? -- so you can relish that victory with a good conscience. The one key thing I can say here is DO NOT LOSE HEART! Both fans and the team! You can get back here, IF the team has the support, and has the will to do so. Always support your team, in every win and loss, no matter the stakes or consequences. You can become champs again!
I was NOT READY FOR THAT LEO. how is it humanly possible to be that adorable already? you must have already brought your dad more joy in months than the leafs ever have. Steve, congrats buddy. you're gonna be a great parent.
If it's any consolation, the Leafs came back from down 3-0 in Game 4 of the Play Ins only to show up for Game 5 and get absolutely slaughtered by the Jackets this.

Guaranteed every single one of the morons who say that were rooting for their team to win and would no way say it was easy, deserves an asterisk or isn't a real Cup win. People have no end to their stupidity
Too many teams in many sports blow a roster up way too soon. You win that many games...well keep the core and add some pieces. It's not easy to keep being cup contenders.
Literally all of the last 5 cup winners have proven why you keep together a core who is consistently great. People called for the Pens to blow it up before they won back to back. People called for the Caps to blow it up after failing every year then they won. People called for the Blues to blow it up after being consistently great but not getting over the hump and they win the cup. People called for the Lightning to blow it up after not being able to get over the hump and having the biggest chokejob ever then they win the cup. I always thought it was extremely clear that you run it back with this core.
See, I was going to make a comment of team colors and everything till you did what you did in the end of the video, But I will say thank you for giving a great perspective as a hockey fan. You are awesome Steve.
All the pain, all the frustration, all the humiliation - EVERYTHING was worth it. The greatest Cup run in history belongs to my boys in blue and white. I will tell my kids and grandkids about this run. Hockey is simply the best! Coop, Stammer, Heddy, Kuch, Pointer, Vasy, Killer and everyone else on the 2020 Tampa Bay Lightning - you all deserve this so much! Thank you for the greatest sports moment of my life! @@imlonelypleasehelp5443 i remember the first one and how the city went nuts. I watched that game with my dad, and my son got to watch this one with me.
My dad, who was an avid Buccaneers fan (and got me to be one too), was a HUGER supporter of the Lightning when the franchise first came to Tampa. Those first years in the 90's were rough and sadly, Pop died in 1994 without even seeing them get better by the early 2000's. When the Lightning got to the finals in 2004 -- after the Bucs won the Lombardi in 2003 -- I was there for every, single, game of those Finals; watching on TV, cheering them on every shift, and exulting with each win as they progressed to a Game 7. Getting to witness that win for Lord Stanley's Cup in 2004? That was a privilege and an honor that I got to see it for my Dad's sake. In the years that followed, the Bolts had their ups and downs, but like Pop told me once before, "You support your team in the bad years, and in the good. You show them why they exist, because YOU are there for them. They are YOUR team!". Well, my team has been to the top of the mountain for the 3rd time, and they are champions once more! Pop would be so proud, as I am of our Tampa Bay Lightning. Good Job, Boys.
Hey thanks for ALL your videos. Incredible playoffs especially the effort all teams put in to make it work. Video idea for the off season...... the incredible skill plays during the play offs!! Things like kooch’s stick flip to hop the puck over the D. Points games 6 bat the puck in the goal. Vasaliski save when he is on his back and lifts his foot to save with the bottom of his skate. You know, those amazing skill plays that look more like luck at first but then you realise they were meant. Oh and yea I’m a Bolts fan 🤣
I agree with this suggestion. be the spearhead for a movement to appreciate the skill that it takes players to make these things to happen rather than look at a goal as a defensive mistake.
he said the two teams he was deciding between were the Stars and the Stars and he said it was because of defensive structure he just picked the wrong team...
@@javariswilliamsjr5229 He also wanted a 3 yrs deal rather than just 2 yrs. I am a Stars fan and believe they will have more success with such a talented young team.
Half the Leafs first priority is not to help his team win but is to make sure he never gets hit and that's why this team can't win playoffs battle war zone hockey. Leafs are built to play in a men's non contact league.
I don't understand calling this cup "easier" either. For all reasons given in video and comments. And also when was the last time playoffs had back-to-back games?
Hey Steve, just discovered your vids this season. Really enjoyed your game re-caps, and trade trees. Good job, and congrats on the baby. Do him a favour, though .... teach him to cheer for any team other than the Leafs. I bleed blue and white (I was born on the night the Leafs won in 64) and it has been painful. The past couple seasons, when it looks like the Leafs have FINALLY put the Ballard years of failure behind them, they can't seem to get it all together. Great job, see you next season.
I couldn't sleep I was hoping they would have won on Saturday when I was surrounded by lightning fans at a Denver watch party ! This however is just fine ! Go Bolts!
Zach bogosian used to live in my neighbourhood when he played for the Peterborough petes. Borded at my best friends house. Got to play road hockey with him. He always waved when he drove by and I was outside playing hockey. One time my friend joked that he should come outside and beat up the neighbourhood bully. So happy for the guy!
11:38 This is such a ridiculous take. No road games - *for every team* . No travel - *for any team* . No fan support, home ice advantage, family, friends, normal human contact for *anyone* in the bubbles. If anything, this stripped playoff hockey down to its bare essentials without _any_ variables off the ice that could potentially affect the outcome. It was balance and parity to the absurd level and only skill and grit to determine the outcome. But NOOO! The 'esteemed' Mr. Cox has somehow taken the perspective that the teams that had success somehow magically benefited from this quasi-apocalyptic environment to the detriment of those who did not see success. We all know what this is - sour grapes from a homer who hates the fact that the Tampa Bay Lightning won and will do anything to de-legitimize their effort.
Hey Steve, why not host an EASHL tournament for charity? Rebrand the Dangle Navy to Rachel’s Raiders for it, could do like a $50 entry fee for the teams and do charity streams for all the games. I’m sure there are tons of teams who would get on board for the Easter Seals Charity Tournament! Everyone like this so he can see this!
I said they could do the same as NCAA Virgina where they were upset early in 2018 but won the championship in 2019. They still had the talent. Man I was booed off the podium for that statement. LOL
In the past 53 years the Tampa Bay lightning have won 2 more cups than the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Tampa Bay lightning have been in the NHL for 28 of those years.

CodingCrusader1095 Steve literally said IN THIS VIDEO that he thought they would have to blow it up and this core wouldn’t be able to get it done...
Baby Update! Excellent. Also, Dallas should have had Perry out the entire time they were 6 on 5 at the end. :)
Thank you for making these Cup Check videos for those of us who couldn't watch the games!
lol seeing your son Leo just made me miss when my son was that small. He's already over 1 and in daycare. Time flies man. #GoLeafs
See, I was going to make a comment of team colors and everything till you did what you did in the end of the video, But I will say thank you for giving a great perspective as a hockey fan. You are awesome Steve.
Great video and thank you for the Leo update. That part of the video made my day. 🇨🇦😍😉😉😉😍🇨🇦
Aww Baby Leo
All the pain, all the frustration, all the humiliation - EVERYTHING was worth it. The greatest Cup run in history belongs to my boys in blue and white. I will tell my kids and grandkids about this run. Hockey is simply the best! Coop, Stammer, Heddy, Kuch, Pointer, Vasy, Killer and everyone else on the 2020 Tampa Bay Lightning - you all deserve this so much! Thank you for the greatest sports moment of my life! Sept 28, 2020 - a day that I'll never forget! #STANLEYCUPCHAMPIONS #BETHEDISTANTTHUNDER #GOBOLTS #THENNOWFOREVER 🏆🏒⚡️
It’s only been 9 months and they’re already gonna repeat history, dang lol
I’ve waited 16 years to see us win it again. And damn does it feel good
Cooper also now has won a championship at every hockey level. Thats pretty special in itself.
Too young to remember our first win, but I’ll remember this!!!
Joe Pavelski is the American leader in playoff goals all time and there is a good chance he doesn't win a cup in his career. That's ironic
He should play for Tampa
he said the two teams he was deciding between were the Stars and the Stars and he said it was because of defensive structure he just picked the wrong team...
@@javariswilliamsjr5229 the Stars and the Stars huh? Tough choice
@@javariswilliamsjr5229 He also wanted a 3 yrs deal rather than just 2 yrs. I am a Stars fan and believe they will have more success with such a talented young team.
Gage Barber what are you talking about his contract was a 3 year $21 million deal
OH MY GOD THE BABY!!!!! HES SO CUTE!!!! MY HEART!!!!! Also GO BOLTS!! 😊
Big LOL at this video being 20:20. Very fitting Dangle
Half the Leafs first priority is not to help his team win but is to make sure he never gets hit and that's why this team can't win playoffs battle war zone hockey.
Leafs are built to play in a men's non contact league.
The Leo cameo was amazing
All the best to your family. Thx for your videos.
every video with Leo is a good video.
During the bubble playoffs, more Stanley Cups awarded than positive COVID tests
I’ll get swept in the first round every other year if we win a cup the year after.
It's been........painful. ;/
Ouchhhh
I couldn't sleep I was hoping they would have won on Saturday when I was surrounded by lightning fans at a Denver watch party ! This however is just fine ! Go Bolts!
Thanks for all of the entertainment Steve.
3 months later and it's still surreal.
i find it strange that this is in my recommended
Zach bogosian used to live in my neighbourhood when he played for the Peterborough petes. Borded at my best friends house. Got to play road hockey with him. He always waved when he drove by and I was outside playing hockey. One time my friend joked that he should come outside and beat up the neighbourhood bully. So happy for the guy!
RIP Memes
Hair's looking good Steve
Leo looks just like his dad . Bless his little heart 💓
Steve: Tell all your friends...
Leo:....eeeehh?
I will, Leo. I will tell all of them. Hes just so cute OMG.
Leo is so cute! It does make me sad that you're setting him up for a life of pain and disappointment by raising him to rooting for the Leafs though
This is just like when Virginia got beat by UMBC, they get embarrassed, don't have any expectations, then they win it all
Leo has little dinosaur jammies ahhh!!!!!!
Back to Back for the Bolts
People who say its not a real cup are either salty, or just dumb.
It's a real cup yes, but it carries an asterisk.
Guentzel is a bottom 6 forward 💀
@@willp.6093 A 40 goal scorer who has one of the best playoff numbers since coming into the league is a bottom 6 forward? Interesting logic.
Will S hey we have the same name.
No asterisk
Steve being a dad is priceless lol
Blue and white win... am I right?? Haha... oh
Tape maple leaf over bolt
At least they didn’t lose to a 42 year Zamboni driver
I love your stuff. Keep it up Steve, and I am the furthest thing from a Leaf fan!
Such an adorable baby!
BEST ENDING TO THE SEASON EVER WITH THE LEO!!!!
Tampa Bay pulled a UVA. In both years
like the 2010 and 2011 Bruins. humiliation one year followed by glory
I said they could do the same as NCAA Virgina where they were upset early in 2018 but won the championship in 2019. They still had the talent. Man I was booed off the podium for that statement. LOL
Steve and Leo get my all star votes for next year.
Great content Steve. Can't wait for next year!
Congrats Tampa 😔✊🏼
BLM areTerrorists ???
BLM areTerrorists nah I’m good. You know I didn’t use the emoji fist for that bud
Respect the Bay! Rays up next. BOLTS 2020 Champs!
In the past 53 years the Tampa Bay lightning have won 2 more cups than the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Tampa Bay lightning have been in the NHL for 28 of those years.
My son just got his first tooth. Glad to see you’re enjoying it as much as I am.
Enjoy it.....
Eventually they become teenagers......;/ lol
After so much sadness, we finally win it all against my dads favorite team
