Here is a very quick and basic comparison of 4043 vs 5356 using an aluminum charge pipe. There's much more to it than just the difference in appearance. Strength and overall finish are a couple other factors. We weren't going to bore you with a documentary so please use the link below to get a better idea of some differences between the 4000 and 5000 series aluminum filler. This video was aimed more towards your automotive fabricator.

This video was only to show the surface differences between the two filler rods. I did not go into the use cases for each so if you're looking for what NOT to use each on, I can talk about it but you can find that info readily available on the interwebz. I hope this helps! :)

your 4043 with the higher silicon content will stay molten longer than 5356. the reason your 4043 looks like it has acne is because you're stepping to big and using to small of a cup. the molten puddle isnt set up when it leaves the gas covered area of the #5 cup. this is why when you start your weld it looks fine but after the part gets adequate heat and you begin to move the rest of the weld looks sub-par. Try switching to a #8 stubby gas lens & 15 cfh. while 75%EN will provide a lot of cleaning action that will also effect your end result. try dropping closer to 70% because thats not a dirty part. Instagram welders polish their welds with mothers before taking pix. look closely at the next ones you see. if the etching line is gone its because they rubbed it off with polish to make it prettier. hope this helps.

Thanks Dustin!! Yeah I tend to use a 7 or 8 gas lens on most things!

I use aluminum coat hangers for all my aluminum repairs.
Steel coat hangers for steel of course. Either a couple of batteries daisy chained togather or my ol'trusty batteries charger for my welder. Welds boilers wonderful.

I use both and 5356 has a higher tensile strength
